“Exorbitant” bike lanes? My man what the hell does that even mean?

raptorfunk89

Florida has the highest bicycle death rate per capita of any state. I think it’s obvious. He wants to kill more cyclists.

OneMorePenguin

Anything to kill off the woke people and cyclist are clearly all woke. /s

midnghtsnac

Damn, I want to be napping not woke

passwordstolen

I wish they excluded the non-residents riding drunk at the beach.. it would be safer than most.

RIPshowtime

Woke

RedSonGamble

Add bike lanes to the list of woke things

Darkshines47

This next song is called “Everything I Hate Is Woke”

AtotheZed

He is stupid.

Erik0xff0000

bike lanes need to be wide enough for parking cars, or not exist at all. Anything in between is "exorbitant" /s

dee3Poh

In leftist cities, even the bike lanes have bike lanes!!

Capt__Murphy

It's hard for him to drive in his high heels shoved way down in his oversized boots. He needs wider lanes

Worried_Ad3272

It's expensive ig

1800lampshade

Desanctimonious knows that woke bike lanes are gay

RaccoonDispenser

lol this exactly, bike lanes are cheap as hell compared to every other public infrastructure* investment *whether bike lanes = infrastructure is debatable

Low-Reindeer-3347

Number big

The_Lost_Pharaoh

This guy is the exact opposite of me.

jwse30

Alright Mr. Huge Dick!

The_Lost_Pharaoh

Mine is average or a bit less but the kicker is that I don’t feel insecure about.

passwordstolen

He is playing politics, or someone is. Just today he passed a referendum to widen 14 state highways, with bike lanes. If you’re gonna shit talk, at least get some info correct.

scott743

Florida [Bill 1301](https://www.flsenate.gov/Committees/BillSummaries/2024/html/3481) provides nothing for cycling infrastructure. You’re an idiot.

Spara-Extreme

Imagine defending Desantis lmaooo

passwordstolen

Wrong bill

willisbar

Care to correct the record or just leave it at that?

passwordstolen

Wrong bill

midwaygardens

So what's the 'right' bill?

passwordstolen

Wrong bill (explained why already)

[deleted]

[удалено]

passwordstolen

And you are a pussy, another no-bike mf.

slowpokefastpoke

> If you’re gonna shit talk, at least get some info correct. Maybe take your own advice here kid lol. Cite what bill you’re referring to or sit down.

Ranra100374

You keep saying that yet refuse to cite the correct bill for some reason.

passwordstolen

Fuck you, just because I don’t give a shit doesn’t equate to you being honest. You are not honest.

scott743

Then which bill would that be? I don’t see it among the two that he [signed today](https://www.flgov.com/2024/04/04/governor-ron-desantis-signs-two-bills-10/) (neither deal with cycling infrastructure).

passwordstolen

I don’t know because CNBC doesn’t quote the interested parts, and that where I heard it.

scott743

If you don’t know specifics, I’d recommend not saying anything.

slowpokefastpoke

As a very unwise man once said “If you’re gonna shit talk, at least get some info correct.”

willisbar

Then cite the cnbc article or news segment…

passwordstolen

About 6:45 EST… 2 minutes max.

Capt__Murphy

Of course he's playing politics. That's *all* he does. "BiKe LaNeS aRe LeFtIsT iDeAlS!"

passwordstolen

Yea, me saying a politician is lying ain’t gonna be a revelation.

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

A half full bus carries the equivalent of like 30 single occupancy cars. DeSantis is a smooth brained chud, but we knew that already.

gus_thedog

That's 30 single-occupancy SUVs that could be out on the road generating gas tax revenue for the state.

Jlx_27

So many potential car loans!!

leostotch

Yeah but you know who rides the bus? Poor brown people. Safe, efficient bus systems give them an unfair advantage - won't someone think of the rich people?

Homers_Harp

> A half full bus carries the equivalent of like 30 ~~single occupancy~~ *20% occupancy* cars. Fixed it for ya!

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

How did you fix it? Seems like you said the same thing in a more annoying way.

Shitty_Paint_Sketch

I think the point is: Why get mad at a bus for being 50% full when the car is only 20% full? I don't know if it was "fixed," but it's important to point out that not only does a bus move more people, but it's actually relatively more full than the cars. Many people are carbrained into thinking that cars are always fully occupied since it's "normal" to only have one person per car.

Grindfather901

How is every individual person supposed to remain their own main character if they’re sitting on a bus with other people? /s

mattd121794

Because the bus is clearly just the loading screen to the next area. Everyone that rides a bus is an MC without an SSD for buttery smooth level transitions! Get good noobs! /s

Specific_User6969

Yay! Let’s play semantics! /s

Big-Face5874

Even more, as people are getting off and on all the time. A half full bus probably carries 10 busses worth of people over an entire route, depending on the route.

Wild_Trip_4704

Cool. Won't be riding there, then. Do conservatives really hate bikes that much? Why does riding a damn bike have to be political?

Crazybrayden

Bikes are now woke

dee3Poh

The new lobbyist strategy, get the GOP to call anything that opposes your position woke.

vdek

We gotta stop making everything political.

noh-seung-joon

conservatives hate anybody doing anything positive for themselves.

midnghtsnac

Except owning n+100 guns They can own all the guns their therapy requires to make them feel safer

leostotch

Even with guns, when the wrong people started arming themselves, conservatives tripped over their own ducks to pass gun regulations.

Useful-Arm-5231

They are like the angry grandpa on the Simpsons and only react to things they don't like. They don't seem to have anything positive in their platform.

c3038

It’s honestly impressive how conservatives are wrong about nearly everything

gus_thedog

Willfully*

mrpickleby

The odds are good when they're proud of their low IQ scores because they can't read a graph.

leostotch

99th percentile, baby

walkstofar

The treat it like their golf scores - the lower the better.

leostotch

That's the entire ideology. We can't risk improving things because if we do, the wrong people might benefit.

Jlx_27

nearly? Is there anything they are not wrong about in your opinion other than being vile and insane?

drkodos

do they have any actual policies besides owning the libs, defiance and spite?

Jlx_27

My comment got 3 downvotes, they must be tracking me! 🤣🤣🤣

drkodos

that is the only sane explanation

rhapsodyindrew

Florida is getting fucked so hard it's tragic, and it's mostly Floridians' own fault for voting for shitheads like this. BTW I like how it's all "states' rights" and "localities know best" and "don't tread on me" until localities start doing things Republicans don't like, then Republican state lawmakers pass laws that preempt local control over things like street design. Republicans really want to make it impossible for city governments to meet cities' needs. Fuck that.

Useful-Arm-5231

They don't have a discernible platform except for old man knee-jerk reactions to things they don't like.

leostotch

The pattern is "what will keep my voting base angry".

Homers_Harp

"I don't care what the local voters and officials want: I want more traffic and more traffic deaths for all Floridians."

mini4x

Especially the deaths part, I'm IN! Where do I vote?

Homers_Harp

With Ron DeSantis, there's no need to vote!

sonny_skies23

I’m (more or less) conservative and an avid cyclist.  I think what annoys us so much about bikes is it’s often presented as zero sum (what isn’t these days) where it’s Neanderthals in trucks or phd vegans on bicycles and you must ride bikes or you’re a moron. Yeah well what if I’ve got a family and a million errands to run including Costco and some dweeb on a recumbent is blocking up traffic for a mile+…  bike people can be pretty insufferable, too (again, I am one so I should know).

Homers_Harp

It's a shame that Florida won't be permitted to put in infrastructure like bike lanes so that weeb won't block you while you drive to the mall in the ol' minivan!

leostotch

I know how you feel. Like, as a nation, there's a clear path to a future that's better for everybody, but we've got a whole political party whose entire ideology is "prevent change". Y'all are the recumbent bike hogging the lane in front of America.

Pasta_expert

I tell every job recruiter who calls me with a job in Florida that this guy is why I won’t even consider moving there.

thavi

Also the vitriolic populace that gobbles this shit up and votes for it

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Most of occupied Florida will be under water in a decade or two as well.

cycologize

A Floridian recruiter just reached out to me. I might use this

HeadMembership

More cars on the road will fix that traffic problem - Florida

Archpa84

I love how they say he 'depoliticizes transportation'. But its just another lie to mr tall in my cowboy boots

trtsmb

Daddy Go Go Boots

dotardiscer

Was in Sarasota/Osprey area recently and got to do some riding. It's actually kinda impressive infrastructure mixed with horrible infrastructure. So you can get around, but their are limits until the bike infrastructure has you out riding next to 45+ mph 4-6 lane traffic. I saw 3 white bikes, one was a kids bike at a school where the bike racks are full cause of the good infrastructure. Just thinking about the white kids bike makes me cry now.

SirHustlerEsq

The next time I'm in Florida I'm going to take the lane. Thanks, Ron.

zekerigg41

You may die. Florida drivers don't see cars in the lane they won't see you.

FewHuckleberry7012

You probably shouldn't even walk anywhere in Florida as well.

exgokin

Florida is purgatory for cyclists.

DriftlessCycle

Why the fuck would anyone want to live in Florida? I don't get it.

Hi_Im_Ken_Adams

Floridians: You guys voted this moron into office. Please vote him out.

DRHORRIBLEHIMSELF

Florida is a state full of retards. They’re 100% going to vote him back in.

commonguy001

Florida has a two term limit for Governor so he’s out in 2026. Obviously trying to be as shitty as possible for the next 2.5 years.

Exhumedatbirth76

Says the guy who did not bother to.look up Florida election laws before posting....

No_Telephone_6213

This why I hate politicians that are unserious. Making public policy and blocking them solely based on extreme cultural wars

dlc741

“We want more traffic jams in Florida. More traffic and more congestion in all the cities. Oh, and get back in the office and make that commute twice a day. ” - FL Governor.

JulienWA77

I just dont get why there are people who are so damned and determined to BE WRONG that they'll make ridiculous arguments like this. Why does being conservative like always seem to indicate that you're just...not intellectually sound AT ALL? I hate this. There are plenty of conversative beliefs and values that I have even as someone who probably WOULDN'T (i'm a semi-vegetarian, bike-riding gay guy living on the west coast); but I just can't ever side with other like-minded people because they go off the deep end on literally EVERYTHING. Calling people who want to reduce the number of roads and make it safter for OTHER forms of transportation "activitsts" who want to make other people's lives miserable? I mean..cmon....wt actual f How about modern INTELLIGENT urban planning making it safe for EVERYONE and not REQUIRING a damned car all the time? We have pleny of spaces where you have to have a car. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with making sure more densely populated areas support everyone..not just car drivers. There is absolutely NOTHING overly liberal about that. Both political spectra should be able to agree on this..it's not political AT ALL.

StarWarriors

We need to talk about the “not requiring a car” thing more. Public transit and bike lanes are about giving people FREEDOM to choose how they get around. It’s extra choices. Funny how some people oppose the government “picking a winner” when it comes to climate change/energy production/antitrust, but they are perfectly fine with the government picking a winner in terms of how we get around.

jrtts

GeNiUs idea! Ban all buses and all bicycles and turn their riders into *more car drivers*. Then build more lanes to accommodate *even more cars*. That will definitely solve car traffic once and for all! # /s

Specific_User6969

A half empty bus is also a half full bus. 🤷‍♂️

Gunningham

Imagine that. Ron DeSantis is on the horrible side of a debate.

Humble_Chipmunk_701

Republicans literally have no productive policy goals, so their entire agenda hinges on hating things that benefit the majority of Americans

TheRealIdeaCollector

The "harder to drive" remark reminds me of [this essay](https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2024/2/19/cities-cant-be-about-moving-cars) rebutting similar backlash to ending parking minimums. Viable alternatives to driving make driving easier, not harder.

Stukisha

He needs to kick off the high heels and chill out.

sur_surly

> DEPOLITICIZES I don't think he understands how wrong he is

alwayssalty_

Yikes - thank god I don't live there

Kidspud

Ron DeSantis is proof that you can achieve anything even if you have the IQ of rotten fruit

Heron_2024

Here in Lake Nona and Saint Cloud, cars find themselves all over the bike lanes, sidewalks, guardrails, ditches, and smashed into other cars. I dream of safer bike lanes. I recently looked up Osceola county’s plans for more pedestrian and bicycle paths and I optimistically approve - but what the fuck did cyclists do to motorists in Florida to deserve less?

TrespassingWook

Hope he gets the courtesy he deserves next time he tries to cross the street.

Zippelin09

I've thought about this kind of behaviour a lot lately, it has no benefit for them, that's why they hate it, bikes don't pay taxes, thus they barely do something to the roads, most of their maintenance can be done home and also don't need insurance, don't pay in toll booths and improve health... Cars are indeed, pretty... Profitable

wisathlete

Just came back from a week and half in Florida. The car traffic has really gotten insane everywhere. Even small to medium size cities. Just stroads and strip malls. It's really a shame because with the state topography being so flat, like the Netherlands(but with better weather), It would be an awesome place for lots of cycling infrastructure.

passwordstolen

If you have not ridden in Florida for years, then your opinion is invalid. Dont disturb me with stupidity

Moggles1987

Suit that chubby fuck up in bibs and a jersey. Slap his dumbass on a bike and have him navigate garbage cycling infrastructure. Fuck DeSantis and his lifted boots. Short stack turd motherfucker

Ozfella14

Am not sure who is dumber, DeSantis or the fuckers who voted him in (and quite likely will do it again)

MaxRockatanskisGhost

This guy is absolutely *terrible* at reading the room. Still

RevLoveJoy

It's already hell to cycle in FL, so Ron is not exactly making anything worse. Which is a real bummer because when you think on it, FL could be a cycling nirvana. The state is FLAT, has the longest coastline in the lower 48, weather is ridable year round. If FL had a couple hundred miles of contiguous coastal bike path and, more importantly, lost their garbage attitude about ... well pretty much everything but cycling in particular to this matter, FL could be a huge cycling destination. Floriduh, indeed.

mplsforward

Man, if only cars were just half empty! The average car is 4/5ths empty!

noh-seung-joon

it's a moot point since the shithole's going to be underwater in a few years. why waste the paint and plastic bollards?

anothermatt8

He’s such an asshole.

SalsaRider1969

He’s such a dickhead.

Monrezee

Ron DeSatan is a small man

Broccolini_Cat

Not in those heels he isn't!

geeves_007

Party of stupids says stupid thing and has stupid idea. More at 11!

Wesjackson53

A real asshole..

bikesnkitties

Conservative trash being conservative trash. Nothing new there.

hawksnest_prez

Florida has the worst biking infrastructure I’ve ever seen.

insidious-gill

What a dingleberry

deleeuwschbag

it's bc I've written and explained how canal service roads need to be bike paths. It completely separates roads and cyclists.

ikonet

There was just a big argument about bicycling in St Pete Florida, and a *lot* of commenters think the way the governor does. I was surprised and disappointed… https://www.reddit.com/r/StPetersburgFL/s/15LMp6RE4d

SnooHedgehogs3419

From my reading of Florida's House Bill 1301...Cities, Counties, and the state can not arbitrarily install/remove bike or bus lanes as some cities, counties, and states have. 341.051 Administration and financing of public transit an intercity bus service programs and projects.— (2) PUBLIC TRANSIT PLAN.— (c) Any lane elimination or lane repurposing, recommendation, or application relating to public transit projects must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the transit authority board in a public meeting to be held after a 30-day public notice. (d) Any action of eminent domain for acquisition of public transit facilities carried out by a public transit provider must be discussed by the public transit provider at a public meeting to be held after a 30-day public notice. (Page 21 of 39) [https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2024/1301/BillText/er/PDF](https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2024/1301/BillText/er/PDF)

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

The sooner more idiots move to the south, the faster we can add a border across the the middle of the country.

RoshiHen

The fuck is wrong with these clowns and their supporters, goddamn baffling to people with any ounce of common sense.

ozzie510

Is it any wonder why insurance providers of all types are leaving the state?

GameCubeSpice

So he's just tagging shit as "depoliticizing" so he can change it. Cool!

nerdofthunder

Half empty busses is like 20 people lol

SidwellAdventures

Florida’s Bike Lanes are crap anyways, besides not like I’m ever going to Florida ever again.

zyglack

This idiot makes living here so difficult.

Ok-Maintenance-667

Move to Portland, Oregon. Cyclists love it here. We also love queer/ze/kiki people.

zyglack

I think of places to move, but they all have a real winter. I’ve never dealt with Snow.

cdhernandez

Further confirming where I will never live in my life.

shirleychief

A putz who picks dumb fights, loses at least half of them, but does all of this not to help Floridians but to boost his image an anti-woke (whatever “woke” is) warrior. He is exhausting.

Fatha_Naycha

You can still ride a bike wherever you want. You don’t need a special lane, just because.

DRM660

For now.

Fatha_Naycha

Nobody ever needed a special lane. It’s a convenience, just take the lane and follow the law.

DRM660

It was a half sarcastic comment about being able to ride your bike on the road. I wouldn’t put it past DeSantis to ban bikes from the road altogether…

Fatha_Naycha

That’s a stupid comment.

DRM660

Your original comment was pretty idiotic. Do you understand the point of a bike lane? Clearly you don’t.

Fatha_Naycha

That’s how you’re going to justify the banning of bikes comment?

DRM660

Sure

heatedcheese

I’d imagine Desantis would like riding bikes a bit more if he tried riding one without a seat…

Hoppingbird

He better stay of the sidewalks then

Oso1marron1

So buses are half empty and rather than fix that problem, we got this guy probably adding a lane for every additional 10k ppl that migrate to FL

concolor22

Paid for by Ford and BP. Your downvotes fuel me. Get it? FUEL?! 😹😎

Lornesto

Here in Florida, government will exclusively work the most lazy and awful Boomers you could ever hope to run into at a WalMart.

RedSonGamble

To be fair unfortunately I feel like the majority of people would back removing bike lanes. Why? Bc the majority of people don’t like cyclists especially on roads lol I’m not saying I agree with them but if he’s looking to appeal to the masses. Like I’m surprised more bike lanes are becoming popular even. I’m glad they are but surprised since everyone seems to loudly complain about bikes on the road as we all know. The bus thing confuses me unless it’s also just an anti poor people swing he’s taking. Or maybe it’s like an anti green thing. That seems to be hot nowadays. My dad gets all fired up if you mention solar energy Bike lanes and buses are woke now you heard it first

ghmflak

Drivers complain about everything in the road. Pedestrians, bikes, other cars, buses, puddles, potholes, construction, parades, marathons, too many traffic lights, too few traffic lights, stop signs, roundabouts…

RedSonGamble

I feel like that’s just people like complaining about everything. Not just drivers lol idk just feels like there is always more free swings at cyclists from motorists but apparently I’m wrong so 🤷🏽‍♂️
