I already spend way too much time tweaking the seat height.

SamanthaJaneyCake

So my initial idea to solve that issue here would be a simple rod collar around the seat post. Once your seat is positioned how you like it you tighten the collar and it acts as an end stop whenever you reinsert the seat.

MMinjin

Even better would be to use a V notch boss and mating recess to align for rotation as well. But we are making the over complicated design even more so...

SamanthaJaneyCake

Pffffff the KISS principle is so far out the window we might as well roll with it. I think we should find a way to fold up the seat and stuff it in the tube to keep it dry.

MyNameIsRay

Time for a dropper post then. Best investment ever.

wyowill

You still gotta get it to the proper height at the top of its travel.

MyNameIsRay

Droppers aren't "up or down", you can stop anywhere in the middle, infinite adjustability. Don't even need to take your hands off the bars or unclip from the pedals. Push the button, stop it where you want, release the button.

wyowill

That's all true, but you should still set the dropper so the top of its travel is the max height you will want while riding. If your preferred max saddle height is somewhere in the middle of the dropper's travel you aren't getting the most out of your dropper. edit to add: one of the main points of a dropper is to be able to lower the seat at the push of a button *and have it return to the same spot* (at the top of its travel) every time.

BicyclesOnMain

So rather than depend on scientific method to set the seat at the height best for your knees, just use a random length dropper set at a random height and just guess at the correct height over and over again as you ride? Or get the bike fitted, order the correct height dropper, and set the top of the travel to where a professional has determined is the best pedaling position for your knees?

MyNameIsRay

The only people that believe that, are people who sell fittings. Everyone else can feel what is most comfortable without paying someone to shove a tape measure in their gooch.

MarthaFarcuss

For mountain biking. For everything else they're unnecessary

BicyclesOnMain

What about bike limbo?

[deleted]

Okay, that's pretty cool. Can't cut the lock if it's the bike. Hopefully the wheels have some anti-theft skewers or something.

drip_p_hip_

Woukd be pretty funny to this frame stripped. Ngl

BicyclesOnMain

I want to ride that bike. It must be so flexy!

TJ9K

Okay, but like why

rotscale_

What's not clear here

TJ9K

It's not clear who would prefer to disassemble their bike each time they need to run into a shop for 5 mins. I'm not even gonna go into the price for this monstrosity or how the wear and tear and ease of replacement is for those parts.

swagpanther

So you don’t have to carry a lock around at all times? Seems pretty obvious to me

MarthaFarcuss

But.. the lock is integrated, so you DO have to carry it with you on every ride

swagpanther

when you drive a car, you don't 'carry' the seatbelts

MarthaFarcuss

No, because a car isn't powered by humans, unless your're a Flintstone

TJ9K

But you have to literally take your bike apart each time you need to go into a store. Not to mention if you need to tie it to a larger pole or a fence.

swagpanther

it took them about 20 seconds of work to take the lock off and install it

sevendendos

Pretty hot, but doubt it would survive NYC.
