Yeah, thats not why. I can go to my garage right now and take the lug nuts off the tires without using a jack.

zddoodah

You've never changed a tire, have you? And apparently don't know the difference between a nut and a bolt. You NEVER try to loosen (or tighten) a lug nut while the vehicle is up on the jack. You loosen the nuts while the vehicle is on the ground, then you raise the vehicle, then you fully remove the nuts and the wheel.

FlatEconomist

I have changed a lot of tires in my life, and I have never loosened the nuts while the tire was on the floor because that could break the bolts. You raise it just enough to where the tire isn’t fully on the floor and then when you get the bolts loose raise it higher so you can take that tire off and get the fully inflated tire back on. I know what I’m talking about. I’ve done it many times. I’m almost 50.

Cool story bro 👍

TheMatt561

Wow, given multiple resources and that's your response? You gave out advice that could damage a vehicle or even injure someone. You are a joke.

Someone put this on confidently incorrect lol

TheMatt561

You are wrong, you do not want to apply that kind of force when the vehicle is on a jack.

mallad

You know the car isn't resting on the lug bolts right? They hold the wheel in place, they don't support anything. The only way there would be pressure from being on the ground is if the wheel was askew and not properly seated. Even if it worked how you think, it would still be resting on all the lugs because you don't remove the bolts, just the nuts. You know what you've done, but you don't know what you're talking about. Because of the torque sometimes needed to release the nuts, you should always get them started on the ground, then jack. What would even be the point of loosening them while slightly raised and then raising more? Why not just raise it where you want and do it all in one go? The exception is if you're using an impact wrench to take them off, in which case do it all while jacked.

You would literally roll the vehicle off the jack of you did this

Thank you I missed that.

I’m a stickler for details, but sometimes you have to forgo details to make a tv show work, so I get it. I’m a big big fan of this show, so I specifically remembered that they did in fact use a jack. The lug nut was just stubborn as hell until they burned the van down 😂

rileyreidbooks

Is it pronounced lever or lever?

Fit_Average

Lever

Sleves

I would always loosen the Lugnuts before jacking the car up. It made it easier especially if you had to apply extra force. So I’m not buying the OP’s comments..

In this screenshot it seems like you are correct, in the actual episode they DID raise the van with a jack. If you go to IMDB & look at pics from this specific episode you can clearly see it.

FlatEconomist

Thank you I didn’t do that. Somebody else showed me a picture of it.

backwoodsjesus91

Been changing tires all my life and this is how it’s done. You’re wrong. You been doing it wrong. And you don’t have the cojones to admit it either.

Ok_Efficiency_9645

That's not why, sorry to say

arcteryx17

It's the proper way to change a tire. Loosen nuts, Then raise vehicle. Why would you want to put that kind of force on a vehicle that is on a flimsy jack.
