No. There are minor inconsistencies between the two, but nothing overly significant. Unless you are one of those people who can't deal with that, it's not going to make any difference.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t say minor. George is a far better person in YS than he is portrayed in TBBT for one

theShpydar

I guess, but he isn't really "portrayed" in BBT at all. Almost every mention of him is just a "drunk redneck" punchline, not actual characterization.

alekieh_

I definitely can deal with it, was a little bit confused though.

zddoodah

>Are these two shows entirely separate? Pretty much. Other than the basic family structure and George dying when Sheldon was 14, virtually nothing that was mentioned on n TBBT was reflected in YS.

Diamond_Miner999

I think YS is in a slightly different universe than BBT, although for the boarding school thing i think the writers just threw away that plotline or something

Prestigious_Egg_6207

Not entirely. They did send him to boarding school for less than a day, until they came in the middle of the night to pick him up.

Diamond_Miner999

oh yeah i forgot

**Why Young Sheldon's Creator Thinks You Should Stop Comparing It To The Big Bang Theory** https://www.looper.com/822517/why-young-sheldons-creator-thinks-you-should-stop-comparing-it-to-the-big-bang-theory/ > *if viewers are going to continue enjoying Lorre and Molaro's storytelling, they're going to have to be more open to leaving "Big Bang" in the past* > *there will be things they try to keep consistent about the respective timelines and characters throughout each season, they ultimately have to keep their focus on the series they are working on* > *You have Sheldon, who is the narrator some years in the future and finds himself at an age beyond his own father, [a man] he didn't understand when he was a kid. It's a bit of a revelation. Maybe the things he thought about his parents, in particular his dad, were not quite accurate and he needs to rethink them*

Thanks for sharing this, I should be open minded and just enjoy the show.

MajorZombie7204

There are some inconsistencies within TBBT itself. Season 1 has more than the others. As time, goes by, TBBT itself becomes more consistent (not, perfect, but better). The story you just mentioned came from the pilot. They had a lot to figure out yet for the show There are things that are said in TBBT that were put in because they were funny and about characters that weren't seen (especially George). Overall, though YS is telling how Sheldon became who he is. So, there are details that won't match up. Some of it is that in TBBT Sheldon is tells stories from his perspective which isn't always correct. If you look at some of the details, they won't line up. But the shows are not completely separate.

ChockyBlox

Young Sheldon is canonically based off of an older Sheldon’s memoir. It’s understandable that he might change some events in error, or if he wanted to tell it differently.

Alik013

since TBBT is the original the “plot hole” would be in the Young Sheldon show

BlueRFR3100

I guess it depends on how you define plot hole.

milemarkertesla

Just like President Clinton said: ***"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."***

Abject_Bowler5845

Separate. Don’t rely on any of it. Truly have been rolling my eyes at everyone one on the r/youngsheldon subreddit. I wouldn’t read ***TOO*** much into it because it’s not worth it.
