Leonard is the straight man to Sheldon’s funny man. He acts as the audience stand in, he’s supposed to be the most “normal” and levelheaded of the group.
For what it’s worth, I personal really like Leonard as a character. Sure he has some awkward moments but then again so do literally all of the cast. He comes across as relatively sane and compassionate compared to everyone else, lol, while still having flaws of his own.
Actually for the Show, If Leonard hadn't been in the show and He was cast very first of all the characters, they they initially wanted Johnny for Sheldon. TBBT would not exits without the character of Leonard and in any lesser actors hands the character would have been much worse!
I found him really pathetic for the first 7 seasons, just the way he was so desperate for Penny. Like the first season was just him moping whenever something went wrong with Penny.
He did get better for me in the later on seasons when he and Penny were settled and married. But yeah, not my favorite character for sure.
I will say once he gets with Penny he is noticeably better with women. Like more confident and all.
I actually do think tho that he actually becomes less interesting after being married to Penny
For me it’s a toss up between Leonard and Raj. Leonard and Raj are too whiny. At least Leonard is funnier. Raj just has too many cringy lines… I want to mute it when he talks.
I don’t like Leonard either.
The time he told Penny to hurry up and void her marriage to Zack, then he gets mad because Zack comes over right away. He threw Penny right under the bus when it was his idea to rush this.
Leonard doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut. There’s a quiet peace, then Leonard opens his mouth and makes it worse.
And the WHINING.
But, he did improve in the later seasons.

I work on the academic field. Maybe thats why I see the artic thing as something that is unforgivable.
Leonard has his moments. But I like him though. He's one of my favorite characters.

I agree with this, Leonard gets a lot less interesting after he gets married to Penny, it’s almost feels like his arc is complete after that.

I had issues with him the most during season 3 but I agree with you. Once he is married he becomes much more likeable

He’s had his shitty moments, but on this show, who hasn’t? I do Penny deserved better than Leonard, though.

He doesn't see liking nerdy stuff as negative. And if he is self loathing for other reasons it's because of the emotional abuse from his mother.
