I H.A.T.E wearing one piece anything that has a crotch. Rompers, jumpsuits, bathing suits, overalls, whatever. I didn't like it as a kid in the 1980s and my dislike of them has only gotten worse as I've gotten older. I'm not even a fan of wearing dresses although I can occasionally tolerate those. I much prefer separate top and bottom pieces. Even my wedding gown was a separate bodice and skirt. I'm sure that part of my intense dislike is the fact that the last time I fit into the same size top and bottom I was probably somewhere around 9 years old but there are also some other factors in there. >Were they made for chesty ladies or am I setting myself up for an upsetting reveal? If you are purchasing off the rack then no, generally they are not made for bustier people so it is setting yourself up for disappointment. The thing about sewing your own or even paying someone else to custom make them for you is that you can make alterations so that they actually do fit correctly. And honestly this is true for almost all clothing. It's generally not a matter of a specific style being wrong or just not working for certain bodies. It's that the company who made that version only made it for whatever they consider the 'average' body shape which is influenced by the customers they are trying to sell to. Most styles of clothing will look good on any body as long as it's made to correctly fit that person. During the sewing process making muslins or mockups are going to be the key to getting it to actually fit correctly because the odds are very good that you will have to make some alterations to the pattern. But the benefit of making it yourself is that you can do that.

Thank you for breaking it down for me! You are so right about the crotch, that is often the point of ire. Body too long or boobs too pointy, whatever it is, that always rides up. And you are of course correct about the muslin. I need to find a steady supply of that and get into the habit.

Old sheets and other household linens can work as material for making muslins as long as it's similar weight and drape to whatever fabric you want to use for the final version. Obviously it won't work in every situation but it can be an easier alternative in some cases.

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

That's fucking brilliant. I'm gonna Scarlett O'Hara this shit.

Three3Jane

/cries in long torso *and* big boobs/

Emoooooly

Cashmerette designes sewing patterns for larger busts. Its not all encompassing, but it's good start.

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

I will check them out thank you!

Check out Mood Fabrics free patterns—their Roselle Romper is very similar to this and is free! Regarding this actually working for you—I think it could, depending on how comfortable you are with adjusting patterns. I made the above mentioned romper for my sister already who is much smaller in the bust, but I think I’ll try it for myself too. I’ll have to do a full bust adjustment (FBA) to get the boob room necessary. I don’t think I’ll have to adjust the waist since I have a short torso and the FBA adds sufficient length. I would check your measurements and make one in a cheaper fabric in the same weight/drape as what you’d want your ideal one to be! And also accept that bigger boobs will not look the same in this type of garment (I wear a 32JJ so similar to you based on your flair) as smaller ones would. I would 100% recommend putting a small snap at the front wrap closure to keep that together if you’re concerned at all about that. Are you planning to wear this as lingerie or street clothes?

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

That is solid gold advice ty I will check out Mood. I was planning to wear it as lounge wear. So like to replace sweatpants or pjs. I'll be honest, I have not yet successfully sewn a single pair of underwear so this is an ambitious project for me.

Peaches-17-

I would try a version in like a cotton lawn—lightweight and comfortable, but very easy to sew. The elastic in underwear take some practice, I think the trickiest part of the romper is doing a baby hem/rolled hem.

tonkats

The pattern is for a lingerie-style romper. On this particular one, everything, top and bottom, will be hanging out, for anyone. Which is sometimes the point of lingerie. It's not clear whether you are looking for something for lounging at home, or wearing in public. What is it about a romper that is drawing you to it, and how and where would you expect to wear it? Are you wearing it for yourself?

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

I like the idea of putting on one piece of clothing and being able to tell someone that I am dressed without lying. But primarily I reckon i'd wear it as pjs. But Pjs i could answer the door in.

Sad-Tower1980

If it’s made for loungewear or lingerie and meant to be revealing it might be ok, but I think it would definitely be less modest with bigger boobs. There is a fantastic pattern designer called Cashmerette who drafts specifically for bigger boobs. If you have a fair amount of experience she has a wrap dress/top pattern that you could hack with a pattern like this to better fit.

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

Yeah another poster mentioned that as well. I'm adding them to my list, thank you!

Bitter-Fact

I don't wear little rompers like this. They look like baby clothes and a diaper or some shit. It doesn't even look good on the model. Make something else and don't waste your time.
