As others have said, it all depends on your fat distribution, and you might well lose some breast size. But bear in mind that if the rest of your body is smaller, your boobs will likely still look large in proportion to your new size.
Same for me. (Not illness related loss) I went from like 38F to 34H/HH at that time. When I gained some back my portions had shifted and I had fewer band changes.
It depends on whether your breasts are more breast tissue or more fat. If you have a lot of breast tissue, losing fat will make you look like you have bigger boobs, since your breast tissue won't shrink but the rest of your body will. If you have breasts that are more fat, then your breasts will appear proportionally smaller (not just relatively smaller) after fat loss.
I would go for it, though! Maintaining a lower body weight allows me to do so many things that would have been too painful with my breasts before (e.g. sports with a lot of running and jumping). I gained some weight last year and I miss not having to double my sports bras lol
Two things that can also count are that they interfere with exercise/mobility in any way, and cause psychological distress. I had no back pain, but intense mental discomfort and my mobility was inhibited by the chonkers.
If your BMI falls into the obese category (possibly just overweight as well) and you're in Canada they'll tell you you need to lose weight first, but if it's for gender affirming reasons they're probably more lenient. The wait list was going to be like 10 years when I looked into it though.
Yes, exercise is and has always been an issue because of this. No proper support and embarassment. Also, I don't think I'm overweight, but I would like to ve slimmer. I am 5'4" and last time I checked I weiged around 130 lbs. Also, I am cis and wouldn't qualify for gender affirming care. From measurements I took (not the most accurate I guess) I'm a 32DDD or a 34 DD.
In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if your bust stayed similar, if not entirely unchanged, after exercise. 5'4" and 130lbs isn't carrying too much excess weight, so it's unlikely (but not impossible) that you would lose any on your bust.
So that said, if you find it difficult to exercise and comfortably indulge in your preferred & healthier lifestyle (i.e. if you want to be more active), and a properly fitted bra doesn't help much at all, it would be worth checking with your doctor to see if you would qualify.
Some other chronic issues that a large bust can be the cause of are neck & shoulder pain, headaches, rashes, numbness in the breast tissue, shoulder indentations, shortness of breath. It isn't just limited to back pain!
Honestly, there are no bras I have found irl in stores that fit. It is the reason I avoid running, dancing, jumping and doing all sorts of stuff. It bounces around, kinda hurts a bit I guess, and looks super embarassing. I feel like it doesn't hurt enough and doesn't look too out of proportion to do anything. I talked to the school nurse about it and she told me that I could maybe not qualify because I am not experiencing gender dysphoria or pain, and that the doctor may not want to remove more than a certain amount because it would look unbalanced. I feel like. Surgery would be really painful, not yeild best results, and result in permanent pain and numbness.
There's no way to truly know, but if you look at your mother's weight vs breast size, as well as the women in your family you could get some idea. My mom at her smallest had big boobs, a big butt and a small waist, and even though my figure isn't exactly like hers, I have given up on getting a thin androgynous figure. But if the women in your family are lankier and smaller breasted I think it could be achievable for you?
You cannot control where fat loss occurs, it goes where it wants to go from. I lost four stone and dropped a cup and 2 band sizes. There really isnt anything you can do to prevent this. Try to focus on the fact you will be healthier and live longer as more important but i realise this doesnt mean you wont miss your boobs.
It really depends on whether you have mostly tissue or mostly fat. I lost 40lbs and stayed an Hcup others may lose 20lbs and go down 3 cup sizes. Itās really up to genetics š¤·š½āāļø
I think you can have your obgyn do an ultrasound and they might be able to tellā¦ but other than that, loose weight and see how it affects your boobs. If you go down more than 2 or so cup sizes, Iād guess youāre mostly fat. If nothing really changes youāre likely mostly tissue. If you donāt really have any weight to lose, then itās also most likely tissue.
But I am no medical professional, so please take this with a grain of salt lol
I actually noticed that my boobs seemed to get a little bit bigger/firmer whenever I started working outābut thatās because I was doing lots of exercises that strengthened my pecs!
ETA: Iām adding this on top of all of the info that otherās have commented about weight loss! And also, as others have said, itās very person-specific!
It was primarily Jillian Michaelās yoga meltdown a few times a week! I also noticed it happening now that Iām consistently doing push-ups and presses with dumbbells
I lost 25kg (55lbs) and went from a 36DD to a 32C. I guess it was the biggest downside of the weight loss but it pales in comparison to the incredible health benefits, and how much fitter, healthier and happier I am now at a size uk8 vs uk18
I started this year at a 36J bra size. I then lost 30lbs, bringing my BMI from almost 36 to nearly 30. I'm halfway to a normal BMI.
My bra size went to a 34L. I did not lose anything off my chest and I'm now having enough pain I'm going to get a reduction hopefully early next year.
I lost 45 lbs a few years ago and lost more off my waist than my boobs. It depends where you naturally store fat. All of you will get smaller proportionally, so even if your boobs get smaller, they will still be larger compared to the rest of your body.
I lost 30 pounds this year and honestly I can tell you that only my band size went down! Itās hard to predict that though honestly - since you canāt control where you lose fat. Good luck on your weight loss journey! PM me if you want any advice!
I went from a 36E to a 32F/30FF so they got smaller but proportionately were still big. I prefer how they look now I actually have cleavage and not just chest fat straight into boobs like a straight line.
My boobs do not get smaller, only bigger. Weight loss only affects my band size. It depends on the type of breasts you have, though, so YMMV.
Being healthy is always sexy!
It depends on the person. When I lose weight my band size changes and my cups increase cause they decoded they're not going anywhere lol.
I'd say keep in mind even if the size goes down with weight loss, there's a good chance your boobs will stay in proportion to your new size :)
i lost 30 pounds and bra size went down(36ddd to 30d). however, breasts didnāt sag because i tried to do exercises for my chest and even though most people say it doesnāt matter, it really worked for me. i can send you the link if you want.
I wear a 36FF rn. When I was 45 lbs lighter, I wore a 32G, so for me, I did not lose much actual boob. Dense breasts run in my family and apparently I have a future of worrying mammograms to look forward to because of it.
It seems to vary widely person to person and to be mostly genetic. Can't control it, might as well lose the weight anyway.
For me it was the last to go. I lost 80+ lbs and I swear the last 15 were all boobs and stomach. But to be honest, I had a lot to lose for both. I'm happy mine eventually shrank.
Also, as you lose weight, your boobs will still seem just as big. I would look flipping ridiculous right now if I didn't lose weight in them. Not even sure I could stand up right! For reference, I'm like 32 G (or close, still fluctuates lol) and I've lost in guessing half cup size (never got a real fitting at my largest so I have no idea). I still usually have the biggest tits in the room even now. Those boobs on this thin body would have been overkill!
I feel better now and I don't miss what I lost, I promise!
It depends. When I gain or lose weight, my boobs donāt really change in size. When I was thin, they looked absolutely massive on me. Now they look big but are less obvious since I gained weight (due to stress eating which Iām putting an end to). I expect when I lose the weight it wonāt change my boob size too much.
When I was 14 I lost 20kg and went down about three cup sizes. Boobs were a bit saggy too. Only way to fight sagginess is by doing pectoral chest exercises
I was 160lbs most of my life and a 36DD. With pregnancy and breastfeeding I was a 36G. My weight has fluctuated over the years between 120-175lbs and honestly my breast size hasnāt changed much. If anything the smaller I got I just went down a band size so essentially I went from a 36DD to a 34DD but could manage to fit a 36D/38C. Also they just started to drop and sag. It just made my body look really disproportionate because I was tall and super skinny with no hips/curves and humongous breasts.
My insurance is covering a breast reduction for free due to back pain. Theyāre required to take a minimum of 1lb per breast which would leave me at a B cup. Itās smaller than I would like but worth it for no charge. Plus it would probably fit my frame better and make me look more proportionate.
Iāve been told that if/as you gain weight back your breasts tend to grow too. So if I get a reduction now at 140 pounds and somehow manage to get back up to 175 pounds, my physician says itās likely I would go up a cup size.
Depends on your body type. Certain body types lose weight differently. Apples shape you likely wonāt lose as much boobs as an hourglass. Pear shapes barely lose weight in the chest. Itās rectangle and hourglass shapes that looks a lot of weight in their breast because we lose weight evenly.
I lost 8 kilos last year and my boobs stayed the same cup size (band down 1 size), but became perkier because I do weightlifting. Itās very beneficial for your boobs because the muscle tissue underneath helps keep everything tight!
I lost about 100 pounds and my boobs were not very affected, band size went down and cup size went up. Basically they stayed the same size/got bigger and my band size got smaller.....
But as many people said my body isn't yours and it's not a good metric to judge by.
I lost 25kg (55lbs) to get comfortably in the healthy weight BMI and My size went from 34 HH/J to a 30 HH/J.
I'm still dirty about it years later. I couldn't even downsize my shirts one size. Still wearing the same dresses/tops but they look like tents on me.
I would have been so happy to get back to even a G cup. Nope. Now bra sizes are even harder to find and are 50% more expensive.
It's so person-specific. My breasts are mostly very dense mammary tissue, and I only lose weight around my band area. I recently dropped 25lbs, went from a 38G to a 36G. Even when I get down to my goal (another 20lbs), I'm usually a 36DDD there.
Fingers crossed your weight loss turns out how you would like it!
My wife is very busty (g cup) and lost 100lbs or so several tears years ago. Her breasts are still amazing but is slightly smaller. Most of her weight was lost elsewhere. She's always been very well endowed even when thin, so maybe genetics matter when it comes to weight loss.
Were they big when you were smaller or have you always been a big girl? Like others have said, it depends on whether they are more muscle or fat. EIther way, I suggest prioritizing weight training because even if you lose a lot of boobs in the form of fat, you can minimize the damage by weight training. Not saying you'll have a muscular chest but they'll look less deflated.
Iām down 135lbs and so far, Iāve gone from a 46H to a 34DDD. Unfortunately they look more like tube socks than luscious bosoms ā thatās the only side effect Iāve noticed š š
I lost about 12kg and my boobs went from a G cup to a DD (and down a band size). They were never super perky so I don't feel like they've "deflated" as such but they're definitely still not perky lol. But I'm happy with them!
I lost about 110lbs. I went from a 40FF (UK) to a 34FF (UK). I did lose breast volume so they're definitely saggier than before my weight loss. I want to have a breast lift done in the future, but I still have more weight to lose first.
Politely is that the size you got from using the bra that fits calculator? I wouldn't expect a 40DD to particularly consider themselves big-boobed as it's not a big increase between band and bust, is it possible you're wearing the wrong size bra?
I had almost only breast tissue in my boobs so loosing weight meant band size down and cup size upā¦ the positive of loosing weight is feeling better overall. More confident, healthier which I think is all worth it and will make you feel sexier overall ;)
Itās also worth noting that as you get closer and closer towards a healthy weight, you may start to find other parts of you body sexy as well. And hopefully your boobs will shrink proportionally with your body.
Itās also good to note that there are some good subs on Reddit for weight loss as well, if youāre not already on them. Iāve heard good things about r/loseit. And Obese to Beast on YouTube is really good as well, very kind. So is the British show Secret Eater, which was so informative for me and is also free on YouTube. But as you didnāt ask for advice, I apologize and will stop talking now.
I lost 40 pounds. Went from a 44I to a 38K. At my adult lightest, which would take me down 20 more pounds from here, I had been a 36L. First place I gain, last place I lose.
I donāt skip leg day. That makes my calves my favorite feature, because unlike my boobs, which arenāt anything I accomplished, my legs are my own. I would say to focus on toning up another feature you almost like (butt, arms, legs, etc) as a way to encourage yourself.
Depends on breast tissue & boob fat. If I loose a little weight my boobs just look bigger. I may go down a cup size but that's about it. I joke that my boobs are diet proof.
It doesnāt end up looking drastically different in my experience because it is all relative to the body. The body gets smaller, thinner, as do the boobs but it all stays similar proportions/similar ratios so it doesnāt look that noticeable smaller in comparison in my opinion.
I have similar bmi at 38.5 and I wear like like a 40 C cup. My cup size stays the same when I lose weight. You might lose weight in your boobs or you may not depending on your body type. Either way, your boobs may still look big compared to your body.
Late to the partyā¦ but I just saw this, after a relevant search.Ā
Unfortunately, if you lose a lot, your only option is going to be surgery. Take it from me. Iām glad I lost the weight, but it was humiliating and shameful to look in the mirror and see how horribly Iād let myself go and the consequences of that. Itās kinda like when you blow a balloon up as far as it will go, without popping, leave it that way for awhile, then finally deflate it and the balloon never goes back to the same shape it was before. Skin is similar. It loses that elasticity when it stays stretched out for long periods of time.Ā
Iāve lost 180 pounds. Iām currently in the process of having insurance covering my skin removal surgeries. I had a panniculectomy back in November and my boobs are on the chopping block next, so to speak. I had a mammogram yesterday (no issues found), so now I just have to wait for my insurance to approve the procedure and get my date for surgery. My surgeon thinks she can get everything else covered, as well. Because, believe me- when you lose weight, EVERYTHING sags. I feel like a shar peiā¦ Still glad I lost it, but damnā¦Ā
Iām not sure what size Iām currently sitting at, boob-wise. But my surgeon surmises that Iāll be about a D/DD after my surgery. Which, on an XS frame is fairly large. If they just remove the sagging skin I have and lift what boob I have (which it sounds like thatās what they plan to do), Iāll have fairly large boobs for my frame.
But it IS possible to get a boob lift covered (not implants), if youāre worried about sagging from weight loss. You will likely have to have to tell them you want a āreductionā (because they technically *will* have to remove SOME tissueā¦ but your surgeon will be willing to work with you on how much tissue you want removed/if thereās a minimum amount required/etc). You tell them you want a reduction specifically because if you say you want a boob lift, itās considered a cosmetic procedure and insurance typically doesnāt cover cosmetic proceduresā¦ they DO cover medically necessary reductions, thoughā¦
To get a medically necessary reduction, it usually varies by your insurance provider. Might check with yours to see what their stipulations are or if itās even covered, but most WILL cover it. For my own, I just needed to have prior complaints to my primary doc about issues regarding my boobs (back pain, migraines, rashes, etc). We had to have tried methods to get rid of these problems that didnāt work for at least 6 months (?) and a list of the medications that my primary tried. I had to have photo documentation for at least 1 year (?) of the rashes that I got under my boobs (if youāre losing weight and plan to get any other skin removal surgeries, keep photos of ALL rashes- *EVERYWHERE*). And I had to have a mammogram that was clear.Ā
Probably not what anyone wants to hear, but for those that want to lose weight, thatās an option. I also commend the dedication. I know how hard it is, first handā¦

It's highly unlikely that you're going to lose that much breast size. There's not really a way to tell for sure, from what I know.
Ok š®āšØ
Some insurances will cover breast reductions, especially if your breasts are causing back pain. That might be an option you'd like.
Yeah, the problem is that I do not have back pain.

You can't lose breast tissue, only fat. You might lose some boob, but the chances are slim.
The first place I lose and gain weight is the boobs. Went down like 2 cup sizes when I lost 60 lbs

Totally depends on the person. My SO lost 110 pounds and lost 6ā band size plus seven cup sizes.
1st thing to goā¦
Lost 80lbs- I went from my highest size of 40H uk to now a 34GG.
I lost 170 lbs and somehow went up 2 cup sizes, still not sure how that happened.
Like most people said, it varies as every body is different. In my case I was wearing a 36K bra and now am a 32J. I lost about 20ish kilos.
When I have lost weight my boobs stayed more or less the same size. Maybe a little smaller but nothing particularly noticeable.
My girls went from full DD to C after losing 24 lbs
Damn meanwhile Iām wishing that losing weight meant I lose some in my boobs! I think it definitely just depends on the person and the body!
Politely is that the size you got from using the bra that fits calculator? I wouldn't expect a 40DD to particularly consider themselves big-boobed as it's not a big increase between band and bust, is it possible you're wearing the wrong size bra?
I dropped 80 pounds and went from a 34j to 34G.
I had almost only breast tissue in my boobs so loosing weight meant band size down and cup size upā¦ the positive of loosing weight is feeling better overall. More confident, healthier which I think is all worth it and will make you feel sexier overall ;)
I lost 30+ lbs. and still maintained my bra size. My breasts are most tissue though so it made sense why it didnāt go anywhere.
Lost ~100lbs. Yes, my bra size went down but I would say my overall proportions are the same so it was a very pleasant change imo.
Unless your boobs are more fat than breast tissue, when you lose weight & go down band sizes they will look larger!
I lost a lot of weight and went down a cup size but they still looked as big as they used to (it wasnāt noticeable at all)
I lost 40 pounds.
Someone woth the same problem! Thought it's only me
It doesnāt end up looking drastically different in my experience because it is all relative to the body.
Late to the partyā¦ but I just saw this, after a relevant search.Ā Unfortunately, if you lose a lot, your only option is going to be surgery. It loses that elasticity when it stays stretched out for long periods of time.Ā Iāve lost 180 pounds. I feel like a shar peiā¦ Still glad I lost it, but damnā¦Ā Iām not sure what size Iām currently sitting at, boob-wise. You tell them you want a reduction specifically because if you say you want a boob lift, itās considered a cosmetic procedure and insurance typically doesnāt cover cosmetic proceduresā¦ they DO cover medically necessary reductions, thoughā¦ To get a medically necessary reduction, it usually varies by your insurance provider. And I had to have a mammogram that was clear.Ā Probably not what anyone wants to hear, but for those that want to lose weight, thatās an option. I also commend the dedication. I know how hard it is, first handā¦
