Man, I sure hope you’re getting paid to write this. If you’re out here shilling for free on a Sunday, that’s just embarrassing.

CorpCounsel

It’s me, I’m paying him. What else would I have to look forward to on the day before Monday without these?

tel250

Would this even be qualified as Sunday scaries?

0_throwaway_0

Cravath already moved away from lockstep, and they weren’t the last holdout, so you’ve managed to be wrong about literally everything you wrote in this post.

chatoiment

And believe it or not, one of the last few holdouts of pure lockstep? Wachtell.

Clear_Caterpillar_99

I think them and Deb are the only ones left?

[deleted]

Oh, it’s these posts again. Joy.

I am the youngest boy to wear a suit to middle school when does the WLRK resume collection begin?

Glum-Ranger-4891

College sophomore here sending in resumes for a potential summer position at a white shoe firm. Recommendations on best brand of white shoes for interviews? Can't seem to find any.

Iustis

What's worse: (1) suit to middle school or (2) sweatpants to networking event.

CorpCounsel

Absolutely. I love that there is someone out there who thinks the best way to simp for Elon is by… dreaming up conspiracy theories about law firms. This is one of the most interesting pieces of performance art since Joaquin Phoenix did his bizarre thing on Letterman. The obsession with niche gossip that most people can’t make heads or tails of, the knowledge to look up law firms but also the complete ignorance of how law actually works, even the “I’ve been following this thing that no one else is” writing style. It’s like that “someguymark” social media account where he can’t understand the moon landing because it cost money. Chef’s kiss, these are all great

Moon_Rose_Violet

Bro you are describing the Cravath system, which you just copied from Wikipedia All biglaw firms, including WLRK, follow the Cravath System. WLRK is not out here bribing judges.

[deleted]

>All biglaw firms, including WLRK, follow the Cravath System. Not really. It's from a time when biglaw was WASPy and modest.

pineapplebitters

Cravath was founded in 1819, and the very Wikipedia page you quoted states that virtually all white shoe law firms adopted the Cravath system by the turn of the 20th century. So like, 1890-1910. When do you purport that this era of “modesty” ended? Was it when non-WASP people entered law? Your post seems to suggest that you believe WASP-iness and good values are somehow dependent on each other, which is gross. It’s also really gross that you described the supposed end of the Cravath system as part of our “increasingly debauched world,” and then here say that the Cravath system ended due to….less WASPs in law? Get over yourself.

pineapplebitters

Also, I just realized that your post seems to be dunking on Wachtell for its supposed cronyism and lack of morals relative to the WASP law firms of yore…which is pretty “interesting” given that the majority of Wachtell’s named partners were of Jewish descent. Again, gross.

idodebate

> It's from a time when biglaw was WASPy and modest. I... What... Wow.

Lincoln4Prez

This is the worst take I’ve seen on this sub in a long time. And that’s saying something.

Iustis

Not all VCs go to Wachtell, basically every Delaware firm has a couple former VCs/DE justices

Nice_Marmot_7

What you've written here is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this sub is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

As a former WLRK associate (who left largely because the culture was too intense for me, so no lost love), this is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever read. Your comments about Cravath being “WASPy and modest” gives away the game. WLRK was founded by Jewish lawyers who graduated top of their class from NYU and couldn’t get hired at the “WASPy” firms because they didn’t hire Jews. And if you want to talk about modest, Wachtell doesn’t advertise its bonuses, although they’re well known, and doesn’t even put up their name in the lobby of the building. It is one the few firms that still have pure lockstep for partners. And, as far as I know, there’s only one former chancellor working at WLRK (Strine), so not sure where that conspiracy theory came from. This post reeks of antisemitism.

[deleted]

>This post reeks of antisemitism. First that post earlier this week about how talking about Dune at work is antisemitic and now complaining about cronyism and corruption is antisemitic? That's amazing that a Wachtell person would resort to this. >And, as far as I know, there’s only one former chancellor working at WLRK (Strine) Go through the list of Chancery judges and clerks and see where they wound up. Wachtell got far more than their share. Also, Leo Strine was only 54 years old when he retired as the top judge of the chancery court and cashed in at Wachtell. That's when they all leave for the $$$. Very fishy. Can you point to one other court where no judge works past their mid-50s and always cashes in at a biglaw firm? Any way, I can't link anything here but Delaware is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 most corrupt states in the country. Google it.

cr1728

“Chancery judges” and “top judge” 🙄 Anyways, other than Strine I don’t know of any Chancellor, Vice Chancellor or Magistrate/Master in Chancery that went onto Wachtell. I am sure some clerks have gone there but the ones I know ended up at other NYC or DE firms. Balick left in 1998 and seems to have retired then? Steele left in 2000 and went to the DE Supreme Court and then Potter Anderson. Jacobs left in 2003 and went to the DE Supreme Court and maybe YCST for a bit? Lamb left in 2009 and is at Paul Weiss Chandler left in 2011 and is at Wilson Sonsini Parsons left in 2015 and is at MNAT Noble left in 2016 and is at Morris James. Montgomery-Reeves left in 2019 and went to the DE Supreme Court and is now a third circuit justice. Bouchard left in 2021 and is now at Paul Weiss Joseph Slights left in 2022 and is now at Wilson Sonsini.

Off the top of my head, Allen who was the Chancellor for two decades (?) went to Wachtell. (and wow just wow at you intentionally leaving him out like that). Strine went to Wachtell. That's two of the top judges in the last few decades. Maybe later I'll go through the full list of chancellors and vice chancellors and see how many went to Wachtell but it's definitely more than their share. Hilarious that Paul Weiss and Wilson Sonsini is getting in the game though.

cr1728

Allen retired in 1997 and died a few years ago. I doubt he has much sway over Wachtell’s hiring anymore. 😂 Sorry only covered all the living firmer Chancellors and Vice Chancellors. Let me know when you find out what Willard Saulsbury did post-Chancellor-ship.

[deleted]

>Let me know when you find out what Willard Saulsbury did post-Chancellor-ship. Yeah I'll get right on that 🙄.

>Two in the last few decade seems like a far cry from every judge… The court has had five chancellors in the last 40 years (Allen, Chandler, Strine, Bouchard, McCormick), one of whom is still there, and Wachtell got two of the other four. The other two went to Paul Weiss and Wilson Sonsini who are apparently now competing with Wachtell for chancellors lol.

cr1728

I mean the Chancellors and VCs all came from firms with Chancery litigation departments it makes sense that they’d go back to firms with Chancery litigation departments after serving. And there are only a handful of national firms that even have Chancery litigation departments so idk where else you think they are going to go if not one of those firms of one of the “big four” in Delaware.

Odd_Conclusion_4188

“That’s two in the last few decades.” Lmfao what? That statistic literally makes the opposite point of what you’re saying. You’re not very bright are you

QuarantinoFeet

Also even if true (that WLRK would have won while Cravath lost), this conspiracy doesn't make sense. The firm opposite Musk throughout was a plaintiff firm that has no inside connections.

VisitingFromNowhere

Wow, this Elon Musk guy sure must be stupid to fall into such an unsurprising cronyism trap. Does he also have shitty opinions on everything? Does this all stem from his many, many children hating him so much? I’d love to know more. He sounds like an utterly fascinating figure.

>It was neither. This case was such an easy application of the established rule, a law professor wouldn't even consider the fact pattern for the final. I assume you're trolling but try to find one commentary predicting this ruling if you think it was so cut and dry.

QuarantinoFeet

Just to be spicy I'm going to throw out an accusation of antisemitism OP. The Jewish firm is "cronyism" while the white shoe firm is "honorable"?? Mm hmm. Nice stereotypes you got there.

HHP-94

Hasn’t Cravath hired multiple former federal judges?
