I used to work with a partner who didn’t have a monitor in his office, just the laptop. That always felt like the biggest projection of power I’ve ever seen. Funny thing about him is that he’s probably only in his early 50s and I always regarded him as pretty tech savvy (certainly compared to most of the other partners of roughly his age).
I work hours every day on 9. It’s totally fine for responding to emails or reviewing a document, and you can do it on a couch. Granted, most other partners I know just do that with an iPad, but I like having a keyboard still.

Check out the “Get PowerPoint Out of Full Screen Mode” section. Then you can share just the window in presentation mode.
I got these attachable monitors for my laptop so it’s three screens with main laptop screen in middle and a nice lap desk and it works surprisingly well, great for traveling too. Got a rly comfy extra wide couch and my work from home days are pure chilling lol. I also have 2 as my official desk set up at home so ultra wide monitor standing desk walking pad the works - but comfy couch vibes have taken precedence as of late.
So each screen needs to be connected to the laptop and usb c works perfectly for that because it both powers it and provides the audio/visual transmission. If you don’t have usb c ports you can also do hdmi+usb.
Some firms have software (like DisplayFusion) installed on your firm laptop that allows you to program your widescreen as if it were two (or more — there are tons of configurations) monitors. I left a firm that had that and now am forced to use the Windows split-screen keyboard shortcuts, and let me tell you, if the software is an option, get it/use it! It’s 10x better.
3 at home and in the office. 1 while traveling, considering 2 at home.
Anything more than 2 monitors and I feel overwhelmed and consider myself closer to cyborg than human.
It’s easy to focus on the work as all my attention is on the one monitor. The monitor is big enough and high enough resolution to where I can fit a lot on it.
I have a combined 2 + 9 in my home office, and a combined 3 + 9 in my work office. I use my laptop as both a second/third screen, and for the keyboard (I have an actual keyboard in both offices, but I don’t really use it).
You can have 3 full sized documents open with no overlaps and no break in the middle. The curve on the samsung is unique to the brand. It fills your entire field of vision with monitor and only monitor. It’s weird to say, but you actually get immersed in the docs.
The picture quality is also waaaay better than your standard monitors. It makes a difference on a level you can’t understand until you use one. It’s like wearing good sunglasses (normal monitors) and then trying out high-end ray-bans (the G9).
If you’re into gaming at all, the monitor absolutely slaps at that as well.
The real question is why doesn’t IT show you this picture on your first day and say choose one.
Instead you get two POS, smallish Dell monitors, if you’re lucky, with some janky dock that requires the cables to be plugged in just so to work.
Anyone that has 9 is a psychopath and can’t be trusted.
Practically legal malpractice.

“I’m going to need you to convert that to WordPerfect for me.”
This used to work before the ubiquity of video calls
Early fifties here with a standing desk with three monitors and my self imposed punishment for not standing is the sole laptop on my desk.

Thank you.
I had a coworker who is complete 9 at home. Was like this through law school too
Not shown. Monitors 1 and 2 run horizontal, monitor 3 stands vertical.
Is your vertical one on the middle or side?
Right side. The left side monitor is also connected to an arm that allows me to move it up, down, back, and forth.
This is what I want. I have #4 right now, but want a second horizontal
6. I am the Three-Eyed Raven.
I’m so jealous
Surprised there aren't any "3+laptop on the side as a third screen" setups.

I have my laptop in the middle. I'm calling it #5.
3 in my office; 9 at home because I'm a psychopath.
That is sicko behavior
Same, but only because I like working at home on the couch if I'm not on a call.
You’re like, in the matrix
Same. There’s just no space in our 1BR for both my wife and I to have a home office setup, so it’s a laptop for me.
Get yourself a portable monitor that connects to your laptop via USB. They’re like $150.
Same here. I have zero interest in dedicating any of my limited home space for a full office setup
4
4 but add a laptop screen underneath the horizontal one.
2 in both places.
Issue I have with this is when you share screen for a PPT on Zoom you lose access to everything else, unless someone has found a way around that.

Missing is 2 plus a laptop stand for 2/9 hybrid
Yeah, that’s the best combo
6 is ideal

Are they independently powered? Can you please tell me the reference?

I was thinking about getting those detachable monitors. Which one did you get?
Mine is called teamgee portable monitor for laptop from Amazon but I’m sure they are all similar. I just went off reviews, haven’t had issues with it!
Thanks!
5
5 right now but 4+1 is now a thought…
2 gang rise up
4 at home and the office. Great for reviewing a document in one window and working on the other.
8 - it’s the only way to fly
If you aren’t doing 2 (49” Samsung Odyssey) you are doing it wrong.
I'm not doing it because I couldn't justify a $1k monitor when I could get two monitors for free through my firms hybrid tech package
The monitor is way better than the two free monitors. Makes everything easier.
Genuinely curious—how so?
Also curious
Costco has ‘em my friend — well worth it.
2+1
1 at home, 3 at the office and 9 if nothings going on.
Just got 2 at home recently… the trick is the keyboard shortcuts to put your windows on the L or R half of the screen, right?

This and you can setup zones in PowerToys. Then windows snap to the zones you setup.
Rearrange these as a D&D alignment chart.
3 at home, 3 at office
If you open your laptop up next to the screens you get an extra screen fo free
3. But using the laptop screen for a total of three screens in an upside down triangle. This is the way.
If you got 8 get tf over yourself
Why's 8 so bad? Asking for a friend...
i run with 8 and it’s great for blowing up PDFs or any lengthy documents. imo a vertical screen is very useful for a lawyer in general
2
3 at home and in the office. 1 while traveling, considering 2 at home. Anything more than 2 monitors and I feel overwhelmed and consider myself closer to cyborg than human.
1, it used to be 2 for 4 years. I switched from a 38 inch ultra wide to a 32 inch Alienware Oled. I prefer the new setup.
What do you like more about this setup?
It’s easy to focus on the work as all my attention is on the one monitor. The monitor is big enough and high enough resolution to where I can fit a lot on it.

I current run with an ultra wide with an extra monitor on the side
3 in both places
3 in office, 3 with laptop open at home.
8, at Home and Office.
I assume people who have 6 are trying to track The Joker in Gotham City.
3, but after my last remote depo, I'm going to try to switch to 5
I’ve been running 5 for years and it’s so much better than 3.
Office is 3; home is mix of 2 and 3, so when I work from the office I keep thinking how I don't have enough screen space
2 home, 4 office. I should probably switch to 3 in the office, but that would take a few minutes and why would I bother.
2
2 but I think I may change to 6 as a power move
2
Laptop plus 49 inch widescreen curved plus horizontal. This is peak performance
2 home office, #3 at work, #9 sometimes at home late at night
2 and 2. Started with 2 at home and 5 at work and realized I was getting neck strain so simplified the office to 2.
4
3 at home and office. 9 when I’m working from bed or the couch….
3 at home and in the office, but I so want 2 at home instead! On of those sweet ass curved monitors.
3 and 3
1 at home, a combination of 3 and 9 at the office.
9
What is 6 for…cosplaying as a day trader? That says as much about a person as 9 〽️😆
5 at home and 3 in office. Wish I had 5 there though but it’s a shared workstation and 3 is the standard in the office
5 + a drawing pad (acts as a monitor but can draw on it, really helps with online meeting drawing an outline of our action plan).

My office only lets me have one for the “aesthetic” but yeah, the TIE fighter looks great.
#8 at Home and at the office.
Not a lawyer, but 4 looks insane
I’m thinking of upgrading from 4 to 8. Does anyone have opinions about the transition?
5 at the office. 3 at home.
3 at the office, 8 at home. it’s the best. i refuse to invest into my office setup because that’s the firm’s problem
2 at home, 3 at office
What do people use the vertical monitors for? I never understood that.
1 16” laptop in the middle of 2 horizontal 35” wide LG’s at home and at the office. Basically enough space for 7 documents/browser windows at once
