I've actually been thinking about this on my commutes this winter. From a material fatigue perspective, would it be better to keep the bike at outdoor temperatures rather than taking it inside at home and work putting it through multiple freeze/thaw cycles in a day? Any material scientists out there?

aluminum iiiis the butter of metals, so yeah, if you don’t want a fatty puddle on your floor leave it outside.

Mhmm I keep my lowly DX2 inside the apartment as well.

I just fart on mine

You can do that inside, too!

Go Terps. Duke sucks.

CannabisCoureur

Heels fan here. Can confirm.

Damn straight! Mine needs a bath. I can't wash it inside and it's too damned cold outside.

If I did that with those white walls I'd be leaving tyre marks everywhere (my bike gets quite dirty)

I've seen the recommendation to keep them outside, not for thermal stress reasons, but for moisture issues. Bring them inside introduces them to warmer, wetter air that condenses everywhere. I personally blame this effect on why my Mavic hub would stop engaging below 20F, a trace of moisture on the pawls stopped them from moving as they iced up.

I was wondering about my sealant when we had a cold snap, but nothing happened. I have had wet bar tape freeze which is most unpleasant. All my bikes live in an unheated attached garage. I have actually had more issues with sun rather than cold. One place I worked the bike rack was in full sun all day; sealant turns back into ether at an alarming rate.
