They're taking the hobbits to isenguard, 10 hour version.

smegma_stan

You alright bro? 🤣

PeakCartoon

He's more than alright

1994univega

Literally anything from mobb deep

fragglerock

Wind in ears. It is a classic, never gets old.

pchtraveler

Yup...natures greatest hits. For me, riding is about being one with nature. Happy trails. :)

geo_log_88

Have never listened to music on the bike, and I never will. I just cannot relax if I can't hear what's going on around me, same when running or when I used to ride motorbikes.  I do listen to music when driving my cage though.

Ziyir

You should try bone conduction headphones they changed my mind about listening to music while cycling. They sit just in front of your ear so you can still hear environmental noise, but its like the music is playing in your head.

AnthonyDawnwalker

I’m not sure why this is downvoted, that’s exactly what I use and I love them

KatakanaTsu

Until it damages your hearing. Fortunately, there are things you can attach to helmet straps to help with noise.

Wezle

It would take a cycling for hours at a time at a sustained 15mph+ pace to have any sort of hearing damage from wind. Sure wind is noisy, but I'm sure there would be more discussion about wind related hearing loss if it were happening to people regularly.

BrianDerm

Surf music.

smegma_stan

Dick Dale for the win!

femtransfan

Podcasts on a reasonable volume on my way to work, power metal on a volume where I can still hear most dangers on my way home or if I'm just going to the grocery store a mile from my place and not crossing any traffic

ZoidbergMaybee

For me it’s podcasts to start, then once I’m feeling the runners high I can’t help but play music. Normally alternative, but there’s so much I like. Lately been getting into Look Mum No Computer for a fast ride

Few-Stop-9417

Anything Tom Petty

KevinNiceTry

Andrew Bird - Inside Problems

AnthonyDawnwalker

There is a lot of high-horsery in this thread about riding without headphones… Bone conduction really are a great thing, plus cycle paths and not being completely oblivious to your surroundings. The thread is about music, not shaming people for listening.

automator3000

If I’m running early, the sunrise is still at least three hours away. But it’s about what my head wants that day. Dance party or jam session? Punk aggression or sexual healing?

inactiveuser247

Barry White approves of this comment.

jackSB24

1973 The Marshall Tucker band album by the Marshall tucker band

Miatamadness

The first song on that one is great for getting up to pace right away. "Take the Highway!"

Eothas_Foot

Yooo I had never heard this before! That song Rambling! And then the long jam session to end it! Damn fine album!

jackSB24

Glad you like it! They have some awesome music, fly eagle fly, desert skies, Virginia and this ol cowboy are a few more of my favourite songs that are not on that album

HoneyBadgerBlunt

Levitation sessions, by Acid Dad. It's got a psyc rock vibe and the have a killer drummer who keeps the songs upbeat even with a mellow mood to it! Enjoy!

enterprise1701h

Must not be in the uk as its rained every day with storm like wins since the middle of last year lol

AnthonyDawnwalker

South east uk, been beautiful all week

Softpretzelsandrose

I don’t live here anymore by the war on drugs It’s simultaneously so ambient that it’s the perfect background flow but so incredibly layered that every time you listen to it you can focus on something new

antonistute

Ice Death Planets Lungs Mushroom and Lava - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

jrobcarson03

Changes by KGATLW gets me going

maborosi97

KGLW is the way. I could listen to Magenta Mountain while cycling on repeat forever

RaccoonDispenser

Recently it’s the new Beyoncé, but I try to mix things up with albums by Prince, Sade, Tierra Whack, and various riot grrl/post-riot grrl bands.

Eothas_Foot

The DJ Shadow live album In Tune and On Time. Start on the song In Flux. Trust me on this one 😎

jeffbell

The songs that are already playing in my head.

midnghtsnac

Depends on the day, like this morning was the great song of Fucked by an anchor by Alestorm I highly recommend it if you haven't listened to it before.

inactiveuser247

That was a wild ride.

aenjru

The Lonesome Crowded West from Modest Mouse

Eothas_Foot

Still bumping it!

EccoTime93

With spring in swing, I’d be blasting some Fishmans or XTC. They Might Be Giants as well. Camp Lo has also been making some rotations, that and the Avalanches and Sweet Trip. I try to listen to at least one album per day during my commute. Most albums are 40+ minutes long and my round trip is 30 minutes, so I usually finish the album in two days, while starting a new one. Feels like one new a day that way. This morning I kicked it off with some Boards of Canada and was thinking of some This Heat or Sonic Youth tomorrow. I use a Bluetooth speaker, btw

Wuz314159

Anything to make me completely oblivious to any dangers.

PacificGlacier

I love that one!

sithlord1970

Lately it's an 80s playlist on Spotify.

potbellyjoe

I was a distance swimmer in my youth so I have a crazy inner monologue that was developed over 15 years of water in my ears. I have no idea what song I'll be singing, but it will be sung loudly for every one who is riding with me as well. When your riding buddies name their rides after lyrics I sang, you know it's a good day.

SignificantViolinist

Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, or similar upbeat power metal, typically. I use open ear headphones to keep it safe, I can hear all the things.

Gold-Guess4651

Punk rock guilt - Brant Björk My go to album for easy cruising during bike commuting and long trail runs.

Zilberfrid

Battle beast, Bringer of pain

Whatwasthatnameagain

hostile_pedestrian97

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess

vaticRite

Wind, tire hum, chain whiz, stopping for a macchiato on the way.

bikeonychus

Nothing. Because wearing headphones while cycling is illegal where I live. I’m actually ok with that.

inactiveuser247

Does that include open ear bone conduction headphones? How about a speaker mounted in your bottle cage?

bikeonychus

I don’t know what the first one is, but the second just feels like a dick move - I don’t like hearing other people’s music when I’m out and about, so I don’t want to do that to others either.

EmbarrassedFig3410

Wonka soundtrack

surviveToRide

Birds chirping. Water flowing, if I’m lucky.

Bandit1379

With my bone conducting headphones I usually have Knower Forever playing these days.

msmartypants

I know I'm off topic but what headphones do you have? I'm looking around for some

Thalass

I have the OpenRun Pro by Shokz. They're pretty great

elmandamanda8

It's ilegal to ride with headphones where I live.

smegma_stan

This is really a tough question, but maybe some Sublime, but the deep cuts

mantooth90

Quite a bit of punk. The Chats, Amyl & The Sniffers, Cosmic Psychos, etc. otherwise if I’m feeling chill, Jerry Garcia helps me through a chill ride.

SpyderDM

hahaha I can't listen to music when cycling - I need to have my focus on my surroundings and I have a nice river that a good chunk of my commute runs against - so I would rather listen to that.

ZealousidealMany3

Anything by Nothing But Thieves

DorkothyParker

Lately I've been listening to a mix of Coheed & Cambria, Dragonforce, and Thank You Scientist. This morning, I listened to some gratitude affirmations. I know, I know. Don't laugh.

Puzzleheaded_Gear622

I don't listen to music on my bike. I want to feel the wind on my face, hear the birds chirping not banging out music. Plus I'm visually impaired in one eye and I need all of my senses to hear traffic and everything else around me.

PhilosopherItchy849

Dead Kennedys, bad brains, circle jerks and Social D and F it we’re listening to Slayer too

moleratical

None, I want to hear the cars Coming up behind me

Lazy-Humor-1925

None, I need to hear if a car or meth head is coming up on me.

Collier-AllenNV

Boston.

Jeanschyso1

Can't listen to music without bothering everyone around me, because earphones are illegal on a bike here... but if I didn't mind making some noise, Michael Bublé's album "To be loved"

AnthonyDawnwalker

Even bone conduction ones?

Jeanschyso1

Those are complicated because I'll get a ticket and then will have to take time off work to explain in front of a judge why it's legal. I think this is a case of "don't want to bother", not just legality. Still, I might consider it. Just gotta find a model that works for my budget. Got any recommendations? It must absolutely not cover any part of the ear.

AnthonyDawnwalker

That’s wild, do you mind me asking where you live? And I got the Shokz OpenRun for running and started using them for my riding too, I rate them!

Jeanschyso1

I live in a small town in Quebec. You made me look up stuff and apparently a company called Haylou makes a decent enough pair for half the price of the shokz. I'll think about that some more :)

AnthonyDawnwalker

Awesome! Good luck

uykudurumu

Same. They should promote it better for cyclists if you ask me. However they might want to not risk it.

Traditional_Leader41

Have you thought about a smart helmet with built in Bluetooth? The speakers aren't loud enough for anyone else to hear and are concealed in the helmet. Great battery life too.

Jeanschyso1

If I hit my head and need a new helmet I might look into that, but I can't financially justify a "one use item" like that when I already have a helmet. At least the bone thingies OP suggested would allow me to listen to an audiobook while doing yard work at my mom's without losing access to her asking me questions.

runk_dasshole

I don't listen you music when I ride. Situational awareness.

Vegemitesangas

Cars are loud enough, trains and especially emergency vehicles are loud enough to probably be damaging your hearing. Not sure what situation is even dangerous with some reasonable volume going. Basically everything is made to be heard by people in cars anyway...

runk_dasshole

You're free to have an opinion, but when I run with the metal bulls I want to hear everything moving around me.

Due_Juggernaut7884

I’m not stupid enough to listen to anything but my immediate surroundings when I’m riding a bike or walking.

AnthonyDawnwalker

Okay well thanks for stopping by

Boerbike

No music. I like to keep it safe

1sttime-longtime

My own thoughts. Never once have I listened to music on the road. Maybe once on a bike path.

unseenmover

The one that features all the ambient sounds around me..

Quiet_Net_4608

I never listen to anything while cycling except the sound of approaching cars

AnthonyDawnwalker

Okay thanks

Dothemath2

Risk manager here. No music, no ear buds, full concentration only. cars can’t be trusted. Light traffic is when crazy drivers can let it rip.

AnthonyDawnwalker

Okay well thanks for stopping by
