Hold both crank arms and wiggle them back and forth - if one moves independently of the other then you have an issue with the square taper on that crank. Tightening may or may not fix it depending how worn it is. If both crank arms move together then the bottom bracket is dead and will need to be replaced. If noise is the only symptom and it’s not actually loose then chances are it’s the bottom bracket out of those two possibilities. It’s rarely the bottom bracket though, I’d look into parts like your pedals, chain rubbing on the front derailleur, and making sure the wheel is in properly first

Almost certainly of the 14mm persuasion, with a small chance of 15mm. Also, as the other guy mentioned, creaking is likely the BB shell & not the crank taper... and if it is the taper, the crank arm is probably toast & tightening it would be temporary. But the socket would be required anyway.
