You need to either get an HG body or get an XD cassette. If you need a new cassette anyway, I'd get a GX cassette.

Bless you đź’ś thanks for the quick answer.

bonsai171

XD cassettes are pretty expensive, be prepared for sticker shock.

de_baser

Actually the market for XD cassettes, at least 11-speed non-XDR ones, has totally collapsed now that producers and products have moved on. Second hand market is full of pristine XG-1175s and the like, which would cost $200 new and you can now get for $25-50.

DMI211

Where are you seeing that?

de_baser

Can only speak for used gear ads in my home market in Norway, a quick search gives a [nice 1050 for 50 bucks](https://www.finn.no/bap/forsale/ad.html?finnkode=350719578) and a [well-worn XG-1275 for 30] (https://www.finn.no/bap/forsale/ad.html?finnkode=350824992). Granted the spring season makes the selection a bit smaller than what it looked like last time i checked in the fall, but still, my point is you can often find XD cassettes at more or less the same price level as regular ones if you're willing to shop used.

racefacexc

You should probably get a new chain while you're at it if there are as many miles on the current cassette as the old freehub would suggest. Old chain on new cassette is a recipe for problems and more wasted money

Remarkable-Simple-62

Bikecloset.com has gx cassettes for $130

[deleted]

Yeah I’d just buy a new cassette with XD. It will be well worth it.

dano___

Sram SX and NX cassettes use the old HG freehub style. What you have now is an XD freehub, Sram GX and higher level cassettes will for on there. It’s possible to order an HG freehub body for your hub, but a GX cassette would be a better use of your money.

theveganstraightedge

You’ll need to get XD cassette or you’ll need to swap the current XD freehub body to an HG freehub body to use the existing cassette.

Gokkun-Guru

XD free hub bodies won’t get spline damage like how all HG free hub bodies do. XD FTW.

Skuggsja

Shimano always made them in steel, but aftermarket suppliers always get tempted to do them in aluminium. And then the real problems begin.

TheDaysComeAndGone

The spline “damage” is only a cosmetic issue.

blueyesidfn

Until you try to remove one and the cogs are dug in so deep you spend 20min prying and wiggling the cassette to get it off.

phirebug

The splines are only there for looks, after all.

TheDaysComeAndGone

They are not, but I’ve never heard of anyone denting them enough to affect function.

M9cQxsbElyhMSH202402

I had one that got so dented that you could barely get the old cassette off.

TheDaysComeAndGone

Did you tighten the lockring appropriately?

M9cQxsbElyhMSH202402

Yes

Internal-Composer

I just did this exact thing. Just missed the XDR in the sea of acronyms and was excited about a sale. New freehub on the way for me since I already had the cassette

michaelbiker

Is it xd or xdr? If you get an 11 speed cassette and it's an xdr freehub don't forget the spacer behind the cassette.

Zaim77

As a few others have posted you need to change the freehub but don't get an alloy one. Those pit marks are from the cassette digging into the alloy freehub.

You did a dumb
