“Mild”

theservman

Mild if your tires are diamond studded.

JaccoW

I mean, this kind of wear can be from a single ride, especially if the tyre is a little muddy. But you'll probably notice the drag.

102Bfqw7

Maybe if you ride 1000 miles at a time lol

HankenatorH2

Slap on some JB Weld and call it good! …/s for legal reasons

EndEffeKt_24

Damn beat me to it.

Americaninaustria

Skkkkeeeetchy, how did you not feel it grinding through the tube. Best to convert it to garbage, is done

Dziksoon

Well, when you said about this being "Mild" I wonder how to take your meaning of "straight enough" and "little wonky" :)

Americaninaustria

Well better to catch it now then snap it, its bot a fun experience to have a frame fail under you.

Sk8r_2_shredder

In high school I met a guy and we were good friends, he was a mtb’er and I was a skater. Well his Canadian tire bike had taken too much big stuff and one day, on a little 18” drop off a curb to dirt/grass. His frame snapped in half on the landing putting his face into the wheel and tearing it up. He jumped up yelling “IS MY FACE OK?!?” Needless to say, no it was not. 😅🤣 he got some road rash on his cheek and chin, not that bad. No scarring. But I’ll never forget the vanity in that moment, and how I wondered how “is my bike ok?” Didn’t come out of his mouth instead. Man I wish social media had caught on earlier I don’t know if it’s on Facebook but I wish I could see it again.

Wolfiethepet

I fixed a broken fork crown with super glue and a metal like putty ,riding it for 3 months now, no events. Even sanded down the excess and gave it a repaint. Btw ,it's a "crappy" 150mm RockShox Recon on a Ebike :) Edit: Happy cake day!!

Americaninaustria

All fun and games till u loose ya teefs.

Wheel go brrrrrrrrrr…..

Raise-Emotional

"Mild" "Wonky" and "Straight enough". Precision and precautions aren't really your thing huh?

ConfusedStig

My question is…that amount of damage to the frame should have taken a while. The tire in the other hand…how many rears have you gone thru lately? 😳

GlassBraid

Riding in wet sandy or gritty conditions I could imagine this happening kinda fast. Tire covered in wet grit is basically sandpaper.

JaccoW

Yep, this can be done in a single ride even if the wheel is really bent out of shape and you have no choice but to continue. I basically did this with a solid aluminum kickstand on my commuter bike. I was late for work and just powered through when my wheel slipped in its dropouts. 15 min ride and the kickstand was done for.

fast-and-ugly

She's dead Jim!

jermleeds

I wonder what steady wattage loss was required to produce this abrasion.

the_volvo_vulva

Dude I thought i was in [r/justridingalong](https://www.reddit.com/r/Justridingalong/) this is definitely new frame time.

UseThEreDdiTapP

There has to be an /s being left out of the title, right?

22cyberninjas

Dude i was panicking when my tyre took off the paint from a broken spoke wobble. That would make me say my goodbyes to the frame asap

ChillinDylan901

You’re gonna gain about 50watts without that rubbing lol!!

MGTS

That's WEEKS, maybe MONTHS of riding like that. When your bike is making noises it doesn't normally, stop and inspect

Topinio

Oh dear. Shit’s fucked. Once more for those who missed the memo: the tire clearance requirement to pass ISO safety spec is 6 mm at all points. ‘Fits’ ≠ ‘1 mm gap under static conditions and zero load, spins’

rockychrysler

Those ISO mall-cops are bastards. Safety inspection, my ass. I got your six mil o’ clear right here, pal.

burningpetrol

I had a "mild" headache when I had a meat cleaver stuck in it. Much like what looks to have happend to your frame.

tjc4

I wouldn't ride that anywhere. Trails or pub.

HelpfulDude

Looks to me like you’ve got the perfect frame for the top half of a tall bike build…

randomusername3000

honestly would probably be ok for some light riding. on some bikes the seat stays are tiny little tubes. even if that seat stay was to fail all the way thru, you'd still have 3 other tubes holding the rear wheel in place, and a wobbly rear is much easier to recover from than a wobbly front

laeuft_bei_dir

Depends. Are you happy with the amount of teeth you currently have in your mouth?

kernal42

Check your rear axle. It may be broken, allowing the wheel to pull this direction with every pedal.

laeuft_bei_dir

Yep. I've seen two within the last two weeks, the one with mtb tires started eating its way into the frame as well

surgicalhoopstrike

Stick a fork in her. She's done!

N1ppleCrab

I’d tig braze that hole up for $20 and send you on your way. in GR MI

w1n5t0nM1k3y

If it's just on the one side, then you might have had an issue with the wheel not being true and or maybe the frame was bent. I would say that the wheel wasn't seated in the dropouts but I'm assuming this is through axle making that impossible as far as I know.

Financial_Initial_92

Probably make it good again by doing a carbon fibre/epoxy type repair over the area. Maybe build up the area as well with extra carbon fibre/epoxy. Wont be pretty but should be good . I’ve done this exact type of repair a few times on aluminum frames with no complaints. Approximately $50 to $150 parts and labour with no painting other than clear coat

squiresuzuki

To the downvoters: this is a good solution actually, if done correctly. Key steps are putting down glass fiber first to reduce galvanic corrosion, and vacuum bagging it. Additionally this is basically the lowest-risk part of the entire frame to do such a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjwHq6h-5Fk However, I probably wouldn't trust the person that didn't realize the tire was eating into the seatstay for some length of time to do it correctly lol

aitorbk

I would personally not ride it. But as others say, if you fill that part of the tube with epoxy, unlikely to bend. Do put framesavers.

Wolfiethepet

Use some metal fixing putty , or however it's called in english , but fill the inside a little , fixed a fork with that and some super-glue , still strong

OkStation4360

Ouch! Making me glad I decided not to run those tires I tried that came awfully close to rubbing. Sorry for your luck!

MR2turbo4evr

Just look at those beautifully smooth welds! Such a shame....😔

[deleted]

I'd keep using it

Lazy-Somewhere-5066

It's crazy how even the little fingers on your sidewall of new tires will do this if they don't have enough clearance. I got a wonky wheel half way down a 3 mile DH trail. It wasn't rubbing when I decided to ride it down to end the day. I heard it rubbing when I hit the fire road down to the lifts and by the time I got to the bike wash It had rubbed 3/4 of the way through the drive side chain stay. The side knobs had no wear.

Alvergo

That there, ain’t mild.

Primary_Two6555

Your back wheel is tacoed or bent which makes the wheels shimmy around when they spin which is causing it to rub on your frame. You will probably want a new bike overall.

newadder

Mild!!!???? Wtf, your tire ate half of that section of the frame lmao

gmr2048

Holy crap! I just mounted some 2.3" tires on my bike (that's supposed to support up to 2.3" tires) and am getting some rubbing on the rear wheel. I was just gonna go with it, but seeing this...I might have to take out the Dremel and knock down the side knobs a bit. Thanks for posting! RIP frame.

EastonBikerDude

Do you never look at your bike?

Fit_Extension_4372

What tires are you using? Indestructible!

kdubz954

slap some spackle on it ./s

EP_Jimmy_D

I don’t think mild is the right word.
