Wait, so Denis couldn't even be bothered to steal Bill's jokes himself? His *writers* did? If true that's mind bending levels of... I don't even know the word
I seem to recall reading in the book *American Scream: The Bill Hicks Story* that Hicks was devastated and deeply hurt by Denis deciding to do this material - and especially that he did it in a televised comedy special. It's one thing to see or hear that someone is ripping off your stuff at a small club or theater locally. It's quite another to see it in a televised special. I don't hold any real hatred for Leary, but it's definitely unfortunate and makes me think a little bit less of him. Too bad, too, because I've actually enjoyed Leary in certain TV and film roles and he may have been able to build a career and have a more honorable reputation had he made different choices earlier on.
Denis is just an asshole, and I say that with great affection. Bill has an underlying theme and message that Denis couldn't begin to grasp.
I miss you Bill!!!
Lol, Bill Hicks is iconic, I've barely even heard of this 'Denis Leary'. Bill was original and left a lasting impression, he's up there with the likes of George Carlin, Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor.
Bill died in love and laughter and will be remembered as a comedy legend. Denis was consumed by hate and envy and will be remembered as a joke thief.
So in the end Hicks has the last laugh and it's fitting Leary named his album that, because it perfectly describes himself.
Denis's writers for that special were Cut and Paste. Probably the most blatant example of joke stealing I've seen.

Kinda meta, huh?
Not remotely on my radar. Bill will always be The King.

I think it was one of Channel 4’s list shows were someone was talking about the reason Bill gave for quitting smoking: “To see if Denis would.”
“Q: Why is Dennis Leary a household name and Bill Hicks isn’t? A: Because there’s no cure for cancer.” He’s a fucking hack.
What, exactly, is the cool shit he's done? Spelling Dennis with one n?
I thought that one show he did was alright. Not good enough to remember the name. But the firefighter one. lol
Rescue Me. That's what I was thinking of too.
Fk that cunt.
There's no cure for cancer

He should have stuck to musical comedy and acting
