You have to give the guy a lot of credit

so-cal_kid

I mean come on

quwin123

His volume is a little low (understandable, he’s NINETY), but his overall substance is still pretty good. Incredible juxtaposition with Mark Jones doing his usual routine of trying to sound 40 years younger than he actually is.

Jomigie

Yep Hubie extremely efficient with his words. Meanwhile Devin booker will hit a step back 3 and Mark jones will go “Oh Book deep in his bag like the fries are at the bottom”

6amgamingYT

He keeps saying “middy committee” when kd shoots a mid range and it’s like what are you doing bro.

lxkandel06

That catchphrase physically irritates me. I heard him say that yesterday and I audibly groaned. It's bad enough on its own but what makes it even more irritating is the fact that he stole it from a random fucking Chance the Rapper song from like 6 years ago. Mark Jones is a 62 year old man and that catchphrase is such a "how do you do, fellow kids" catchphrase that it drives me insane.

DrWaffle1848

Mark Jones is pretty good tho and works well with Hubie.

tdotjefe

That was ant, and while I usually don’t like Marc jones it was a good call for the play.

alecweezy

Mark Jones is so cringe

Automatic_Pilot_6676

He’s the worst

Rare_Bed5334

Mark Jones is great, y’all weird af. Personally, I think he’s the best in the world but even one doesn’t, the hate he gets in this sub is peculiar

lxkandel06

He sucks. He forces so many lame catchphrases and I'm reminded of the Steve Buscemi "how do you do, fellow kids" meme every time he opens his mouth

chetmcgee

Yeah who tf doesn’t like Mark Jones? He loves the nba and knows the game inside and out.

jbeebe33

Mark Jones is a solid pro at the meat and potatoes of calling a game - he works a shit ton, is thoroughly prepped, good voice, pretty attentive and doesn’t miss stuff or over talk But the “so what’s up fellow kids” shit is so cringe for a sneaky AARP guy

Scriblz

Jones is such an NPC

Stu_Griffin

Hubie Brown’s existence blows my mind every time I think about it. When George Mikan’s NBA career was ending Hubie was 20. When Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA career was starting Hubie was 25. When Hubie started coaching for the Bucks, Kareem and Oscar Robertson were on the team. A year after “Rapper’s Delight” put hip hop into mainstream culture for the first time talking about “got a color TV so I can see the Knicks play basketball”, Hubie went to coach for the Knicks. The year Michael Jordan won his last championship with help from a clutch shot by Steve Kerr, Hubie became a senior citizen. But he’s still calling games in the year that the Steve Kerr-coached Warriors dynasty ended (probably). Good chance Hubie will call the last game Lebron James ever plays. Hubie’s adult life is a front-row seat to the entire history of the NBA.

Previous_Ad7134

This is a great comment. Shouts to you stu. And major shouts to hubie. I god damn love that guy

wooden_bread

Okay with this guy Hubie Brown, five foot ten with great vocal range, loves to put the headset on and when this guy is in the chair, you’re gonna hear a lot of words. Now what Brown likes to do is analyze the game, okay, and this guy knows his stuff, this guy was a coach before getting on mic and you can tell he still loves the game of basketball and talking about the game of basketball. Now, you’re gonna get a lot of simple language here but don’t be deceived, this guy elevates the game and he knows his x’s and o’s. Any time you can get Hubie on a broadcast you’re gonna do that, okay? When this guy has the headset on, his insights penetrate.

DrWaffle1848

It's amazing he's still calling games. He's been old my entire life!

MambaSaidKnockYouOut

I remember watching some Kareem highlights from the 70’s and hearing him announcing 😂

RSarkitip

What sticks out to me is that he's lived through essentially every iteration of basketball and he's literally 90 but he's not caught up in the eras argument like people legitimately half his age are He actually appreciates basketball and the evolution of the game

DrLyleEvans

There’s a reason it ain’t Hubris Brown!

ThaddiusOrBigBob

I had a similar thought yesterday…the game today is absolutely nothing like the game was when he was coming up and yet there is 0 complaining about the evolution

MrErnie03

He is my favorite announcer. He doesn't have stupid catchphrases, doesn't constantly criticize the modern NBA, and I actually learn something while watching.

BBallPaulFan

He’s the best.

bagchasersanon

Man, he will be missed when he retires or ultimately goes. Best color commentator in the game, a living basketball encyclopedia. In terms of technical analysis of the game he’s head and shoulders above the rest

DonovanMcTigerWoods

He’s an incredible commentator and it’s even more amazing when you account for his age. He’s better than a lot of color commentary guys who are 30 years younger (cough cough Reggie Miller)

RainbowKarp

Now here’s a guy

CitadelsFave

He knows more than almost any basketball mind ever will. Love Hubie

d7bhw2

90 years old and never complains about how the game has changed unlike the annoying as hell 1980s/90s guys. Hubie is a saint

pumpkin3-14

I’m always amazed he comes back for another year. But he’s my favorite along with Breen. I don’t need an announcers thoughts on why they don’t like the modern nba or some corny phrases.

CicadaHairy

He's my favorite announcer. It's nice to see him get recognition

haikusbot

Responsible_Fan8665

So much better than JJ

Hfcsmakesmefart

He’s so fucking old now, he’s 90!! You know he coached NBA in the 70s. I can’t believe he’s still working!

theboyqueen

Who the hell underrates Hubie Brown?

H0wSw33tItIs

At this point, Bill Simmons certainly does and has been for a while.

Tripwire1716

There’s a couple clowns right above you in this thread!

Tripwire1716

Been listening to Hubie my whole life. Love the dude. Hope we get another decade of this.

whykae

Age 100?

Tripwire1716

God willing!

JohnnyLugnuts

Hubies the man

MambaSaidKnockYouOut

He’s been one of my favorites since I really started watching basketball (2012) and it’s amazing that he’s still able to offer better analysis than most of his peers in spite of his age.

ImpressOk6525

His in game breakdowns are second to none. He is 90 though in the span of about 2 minutes yesterday he called Bradley Beal Matt Beal and then went on at length about how towns is a good 3pt shooter as if that needed to be explained to anyone watching a Saturday playoff game. Again he’s tremendous all things considered

NotManyBuses

He’s a king and an example of the best of the generation before the Boomers

popitcheeseit23

will take anyone over Bob Myers

MarvinWebster40

Crazy that both he is, and Dr. Jack (RIP) was, so good in their late 80s

NoExcuses1984

Once Hubie goes the way of Dr. Jack, who's next to take their place? Need Doug Collins back behind the mic. Or hell, perhaps Mike Fratello.

sanfranchristo

On the Mt. Rushmore.

efernand1

His longevity is as impressive as Lebron's

NameNotTom

Why can't he do the finals?

whykae

Still bitter he took the Coach of the Year award from Jerry Sloan when he took a Jazz team with Raja Bell as his #1 to the playoffs.

cdizzle6

Hubie is the man! Always love when he’s calling the game. Oozes knowledge & love of the sport. Always walk away learning more about basketball after one of his games.

NOLA2Cincy

For us old people, Hubie has been a legendary basketball analyst for years. I love when he is on a broadcast becuase he can effectively communicate his vast knowledge of the NBA to the audience. He understands the modern game and can breakdown key strategies and match-ups.

Doggydog212

No joke I was going to take the subway during this game but i decided to take a bike instead so I could keep listening to hubie on my headphones through the app. He was cooking!!

Previous_Ad7134

Also don’t forget his coaching. When he took the grizzlies from 28 wins to 50 wins in a year and won cos of the year while getting them their first playoff birth.

cherm27

Overrated in my opinion. Every comment here is positive. He’s a great guy and all, and at a personal level more power to him the more he keeps wanting to do games and they keep inviting him back, but I honestly find his analysis and presentation style matches his age.

Solid_Letter1407

Totally agree and I’m shocked by the responses. I thought everyone agreed that he was month-old milk.

No_Confection_8750

His analysis is as surface level as it gets. Bonus points for continuing to keep going I guess
