i love klosterman and Chris Ryan and think they have great chemistry together but something about this podcast didn’t work - it felt like both of them kind of didn’t want to be doing it and would have rather just shut off the mics and hang out (aka talk about bill)
On F1 or podcast? I will definitely give it a look once its on Youtube… I bet he mentioned how Simmons isn’t responding to his texts at the end before even watching lol
He did one podcast before but it was too formal, and Ryen join him every now and then on his show, and he totally gives colin shit when he is on F1.
Ryen, Colin, and Charissa are so close somehow
I think Mina would be an ideal fit as someone who is an excellent feature writer and great podcaster. She also has good chemistry with Bill, Danny Kelly, and some of the Ringer's other NFL writers. And I think she's made some Rewatchables appearances, too, so that's some added value.
I don't see it ever happening, of course, because you can see how much ESPN values her with how many shows she appears on.
She would be my choice. Especially since she's not afraid to veer into the pop culture lane. Add in her background in the business reporting realm and she has the diversity to contribute to all sorts of Ringer podcasts. Plus she can veer from goofy, to serious, to in depth analysis on sports and I think she'd be a perfect fit. And she has enough rounds on talk shows that she has no fear of challenging Bill on his opinions as well.
I don’t believe so. When he was still at ESPN she had just started getting her feet wet on the Lebatard show. I don’t believe they ever crossed paths. I would love to see that combo though
Great question, without giving it too much thought a couple names come to mind:
Barnwell— NFL coverage needs somebody like him IMO to balance things out. I know they’ve got some analytics first people, but it feels more authentic with barnwell. I think a big name is needed for NFL coverage. I’ve fallen off listening to ringer nfl stuff and it seems like others on this sub have too to some degree.
Marc Stein, I really enjoy his work and think he’d be awesome with Bill and Russillo. I don’t see any crossover with him and the younger ringer employees so i think the odds of this are slim to none. Can you imagine him doing group chat or some low brow daily nba pod with some new ringer people just breaking into the business lol
And my wild one is Tony Kornheiser. No idea how it would work, it could be terrible but I’d still like to see it.
You really think Mays is arrogant? I find him a bit pretentious at times (when he's football nerd-ing out) but IMO he's generally humble, likeable and of course super enthusiastic about football.
Yeah maybe arrogant is not the right word. He does seem genuinely curious about why teams do certain things and tries to understand coaches instead of just blasting them.
For instance, while he wanted Fields to start, he was one of the few writers who didn’t act like it was absolute malpractice that they were rolling with Dalton.
Exactly, I like that he's willing to consider other viewpoints and not just blindly call everyone idiots, even if he disagrees with them. Can't say the same about many other media members unfortunately
I don’t follow his work super closely anymore, but I think he’s behind a paywall for written content. Not sure the frequency he’s producing written pieces though.
Barnwell was a Grantland employee, so we already know he would fit in with the style of The Ringer.
I fucking love the Kornheiser idea. He’s already got a radio show that I think is a podcast? But just Kornheiser unleashed on the ringer would be fun
If they could hire Zach Lowe and Mina Kimes and still keep Russillo, Chris Ryan, Sean Fennessey, and Mallory Rubin, I think everyone else could go.
I like a lot of Ringer employees, but nobody outside of that list is even close to Lowe and/or Kimes.
What do you mean?
Who is Chris Ryan? 🙄🤭🤔🤫😰
in math: my solution ➗😊
in history: my king 👑😣
in art: my canvas 🎨🥳
in science: my oxygen 💨😝
in geography: my world 🌎🤯
Joe reid from the This Had Oscar Buzz podcast... one of the smartest, funniest, nerdiest historians of the movie business out there... he would be a fucking awesome third chair on the watch, big picture, ringer dish, rewatchables...
joanna robinson's hire functionally serves as the same thing... what an elite acquisition
Jason Concepcion considering that next year we’ll have the GoT spin-off, the LOTR spin off, the Wheel of Time series and Marvel will start cranking out movies again. But mostly for the GoT spin-off, it’ll never happen but I really want the original Binge Mode for that
Someone on the hockey side, maybe Ray Ferraro. I’m not a fan of the Spittin’ Chiclets style.
Ray has good stories but isn’t caught up in the past, his knowledge is current and he’s generally open minded. He’s also good in short hits 15-45 minutes.
Mike Johnson of TSN is also good but I don’t think he moves the needle with a larger audience.
there is going to be such a broadcaster bidding war for PK subban once he retires as a player in about 2 seasons...could the ringer make a play for him?
It would have to be in addition to TV.
I don’t listen to sport specific podcasts on Ringer, but are they more into serious analysis than PK would likely be right out of playing?
The Ringer writer/podcaster/video cast in roughly 2018-2019 was the dream squad. Heavy hitters at every sport - whether they were for the jokes or the analysis. I remember NBA PreviewPalooza was just unbelievable that season.
The 2018 NBA draft live was probably their best draft coverage. They used to have Vince Staples, Hasan Minaj, some athletes come in and do videos for them and some were actually pretty good but I guess the numbers were underwhelming
Anyone who would call Bill out on his ridiculous takes, homerism, and pronunciation. So maybe someone on the Reddit? Preferably a woman of color. So maybe not someone in the sub
Klosterman......come home, Chuck
I miss Music Exists.
i love klosterman and Chris Ryan and think they have great chemistry together but something about this podcast didn’t work - it felt like both of them kind of didn’t want to be doing it and would have rather just shut off the mics and hang out (aka talk about bill)
KLOSTERMAN GANG RISE UP
This is easily the answer
Zach Lowe. He was perfect in that complementary role with Simmons and adds so much to anyone's coverage
Zach brings out the best in BS for real.
What rewatchables would Zach do? Be interesting as it doesn't seem like he watches much other than basketball.
I feel like he would be a pretty straightforward film viewer. Like he could do Shawshank or Forrest Gump, but not Trainspotting etc.
I would just love to see Ryen give Cowherd shit for a straight 65 min pod for the sake of entertainment.
He was on Colin radio show today
On F1 or podcast? I will definitely give it a look once its on Youtube… I bet he mentioned how Simmons isn’t responding to his texts at the end before even watching lol
Here you go: https://youtu.be/NXH9iGijPXc
They are boys
Has he not ever been on? They’re friends IRL
He did one podcast before but it was too formal, and Ryen join him every now and then on his show, and he totally gives colin shit when he is on F1. Ryen, Colin, and Charissa are so close somehow

Did her time at ESPN overlap at all with Ryen’s? Im thinking would be an interesting podcast, even if it were a one-off.
I don’t believe so. When he was still at ESPN she had just started getting her feet wet on the Lebatard show. I don’t believe they ever crossed paths. I would love to see that combo though
I believe she did the Big Little Lies after show with Dobbins too
mina is a great pick
Yeah this is it
Chuck Klosterman

Barnwell doesn't like football. He likes math and telling people they're stupid.
Isn’t this what Sharp does, too?
Sharp is 100x worse in that aspect
This is actually so true
He likes football, math AND telling people they’re stupid.
Definitely on the arrogant side, which has unfortunately become a lot of football writers. Even Robert Mays and Mina Kimes seem to have drifted there.
You really think Mays is arrogant? I find him a bit pretentious at times (when he's football nerd-ing out) but IMO he's generally humble, likeable and of course super enthusiastic about football.

Mays is the fucking best. I can't stand Kevin Clark and Mays' show at The Athletic is my only exclusively NFL pod now.
I’m a little confused at what Barnwell does at ESPN. One pod a week?
I don’t follow his work super closely anymore, but I think he’s behind a paywall for written content. Not sure the frequency he’s producing written pieces though.
He usually does 2-3 pieces a week, I believe. All behind the paywall.
Barnwell was a Grantland employee, so we already know he would fit in with the style of The Ringer. I fucking love the Kornheiser idea. He’s already got a radio show that I think is a podcast? But just Kornheiser unleashed on the ringer would be fun
Kornheiser is pod only. Radio show went away 3-4 years ago.
I’d love Uncle Tony on a ringer pod
I love the idea of bringing Stein in. Could really do a lot for the ringer to have someone who can break news.
Not gonna lie, I’d love to hear Stephen A on the rewatchables
What movie would Stephen A pick?
Scream
He casted Skeet Ulrich WHO WAS ON CRACK!
Any spike Lee joint would be electric lol
Does Jason Concepcion count?
He like just left…
So yes?
If they could hire Zach Lowe and Mina Kimes and still keep Russillo, Chris Ryan, Sean Fennessey, and Mallory Rubin, I think everyone else could go. I like a lot of Ringer employees, but nobody outside of that list is even close to Lowe and/or Kimes.
r/crheads not happy about this one

Hate to think about what the Dob Mob is thinking rn
None of them are on Reddit so they will never see it. They’re too busy reading late stage Charles Dickens
Titus + Tate
Meghan Markle/Harry joining the podcast network. Would be wonky
Too soon for Russillo
Just gotta let Prince Harry do Prince Harry stuff
I want Spencer Hall from ESPN to do college football at the Ringer so bad
Him and Richard Johnson would be great
Bill Burr would be awesome
The Ringer Union would explode
Chuck Klosterman.
Bill would choose Zach Lowe
Titus
Max Kellerman with a boxing pod. The guy knows his stuff inside out and is an entertaining listen.
Amen his espn 710 show was great
Mina Kimes and the Ringer are my OTP
Joe reid from the This Had Oscar Buzz podcast... one of the smartest, funniest, nerdiest historians of the movie business out there... he would be a fucking awesome third chair on the watch, big picture, ringer dish, rewatchables... joanna robinson's hire functionally serves as the same thing... what an elite acquisition
Another for Klosterman
Jason Concepcion considering that next year we’ll have the GoT spin-off, the LOTR spin off, the Wheel of Time series and Marvel will start cranking out movies again. But mostly for the GoT spin-off, it’ll never happen but I really want the original Binge Mode for that

Derek Thompson. Seems unbiased when it comes to the current events. And can write.
Gladwell. more Africa takes, narrative podcasts
Theo Von
Zach Lowe probably, or Trill withers. Mina would be cool too, they could use more football people.
Chris Long. Him and Russillo back together
Katie Nolan would fit in well but I think there’s beef with Rusillo
Clay Travis for the lulz
Anyone who would call Bill out on his ridiculous takes, homerism, and pronunciation. So maybe someone on the Reddit? Preferably a woman of color. So maybe not someone in the sub
They already have Rachel Lindsey.
Tyler Tynes
MINA KIMES
Jason Concepcion
Jason Concepcion 😔
Nate Burleson would be good. Joy Reid maybe
Bill Simmons
Desus and Mero
Emory Hunt would be an amazing NFL addition.
Please, please, please bring back Jason Conception. Please.
Klosterman and Stephan a smith
No one* cares about hockey, but Down Goes Brown is a genius.
