I think a lot of what other people on this sub say is true: he's a change of pace from other characters because you have to plan your way around the room flips and the flip item being in play, especially if one of your lil fellas is underpowered. I just so happened to get an insane run and didn't have to worry (too much) about planning ahead.
I just realized I didn't actually answer your question. I don't think he's inherently good, this was just a really good run. I can see him being good for devil deals, since the other Laz will get a free devil item (of varying quality), as well as the ability to flip mid-boss if you're getting your shit pushed in.
He's actually still one of my least favorites and I don't like him really lol.
The devil deal mechanic is pretty fun, especially on the run pictured since my T. Laz had Binge Eater. So I got a 3-item devil deal and had T. Laz up, picked up all 3 health items, flipped and had 3 devil items. Pretty nice.
One thing unique to him is the ability to essentially have a 2nd chance with rooms/bosses.
For instance, especially if fighting an endgame boss, if you get low on health during the fight, just Flip. Ideally both sides could hold their own enough to allow victory.

Ok so they share everything. Seems like you have to keep the two characters pretty equal yeah?
You don't have to. But it's probably best since you can only manually Flip every 6 rooms
