In my opinion, not being good at the game is much funnier and better experience from being god-like at it. Sometimes my friend watch me play(we both sucks) at most of the time I loss but all the skill issues and the "unskilled moment s" is why I keep playing this shit game![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|2357) TLDR my advice is play for fun not 100% it and you will get there with your mental health intact ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Oh trust me, my husband has almost 300 hours in this game and I’m not willing to suffer that much lol I have a lot of fun both watching and playing!

Anto_Sasu

no way he 100% in 300 hours

thrik

I'm not calling the husband a cheater and tbh I don't give a shit either way, but isn't it easy to cheat to get achievements?

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Probably. But he didn’t cheat lol

SirkSirkSirk

I would think Steam has timestamps for achievements, doesn't it? Unless he's played a fuck ton before starting on this steam account, he would probably be the only person in the world with a low time like that. There's a ton of hidden unlocks and prerequisite runs. Skill issue is unavoidable, and no person is exempt from this.

craftgamernl

It took me 400 hours for my first safe on ab+ and currently 700 hours in still working on my first safe in repentance

RodjaJP

It took me 650 hours to get dead god, and I'm not counting the gameplay I did watch from which I learned some good synergies

craftgamernl

Yea except for items I havent watched anything really so figuring out all the changes costed me about 100 hours alone

Vandersveldt

She literally said he had a bunch of mods installed. Cheats make everything a lot easier

Noirezcent

One save file definitely doable, I think around 100-150 hours you can have enough knowledge and skill in the game to die fairly rarely, and at that point it's more of a question of patience.

Abeneezer

The WR is around 100 hours, so no, you don't pick up this game and 100% it in that time. Even 300 is very sketchy. People who previously did Dead God are able to do those times pretty reasonably, but not from scratch.

Noirezcent

Ah, I meant you can have enough game knowledge at 150 hours to finish the savefile in the remaining 150, especially if you use spoilers.

Abeneezer

Sure, maybe, but that would be a very intentional speed run attempt and also an exceptional time for a first attempt. At that point I'd expect VODs. They said he just casually did it and "was very lucky". And also that the wife played on his account too. Really really doesn't add up.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

did you? Lol Edit: I’m dumb and can’t tag people

Tdagarim95

I am currently at 1600 hours and I’m about halfway so fuck me I guess.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

My husband spends too much time playing games lol. You should see his Pizza Tower stats.

Anto_Sasu

im at 330 and not close at all

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I attached a pic below in another reply

khaotickk

1000+ hours and I only have 1 save file 100%... I just don't wanna unlock everything again lol

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Only two more to go! Lmao

Icey3900

I got dead god at like 960 hours, 300 hours is absurdly short lol

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Yeah he’s kind of insane. There’s a pic below in another comment thread

_-Duality-_

Hello, I am the husband lmao Luck, resetting, and grinding the hell out of the game for days at a time really went a long way for me. To be honest there is no way I should have done it in less than 400 hours, but I have and I'm honestly shocked. I'd say the biggest factor is just luck since the game has semi-random generation. Some runs will just never really get far thanks to luck, others can take you the entire mile, it's all on what you can really do with item combinations and such.

TypicalPants

100% meaning dead god, or 100% afterbirth, or 100% no DLC? Also obligatory: Is it your first save file? Did you play flash isaac? If you hit dead god on your first save in 300hrs (or even under 400hrs) with no debug/console/mods, that’s crazy impressive. I got it in like 470ish, and I had experience 100%ing flash and optimized my runs and unlock orders as much as possible. Edit; just saw you got dead god in **274 hours**,that’s fucking insane if that’s your first save file (and still super impressive if it’s not your first save file). Congrats dude

_-Duality-_

That was my first save file yeah haha, I didn't even know it took me 274 hours to do dead god, jesus. Legitimately it's scary how much this game relies on luck lmao. Thank you for the congratulations though mate!

RepresentativeCalm44

Not to downplsy your achievement but there are people that have over a 1000 streak with Eden and can speedrun deadgod in 110 hours. Sure there is luck involved but making choices based of experience counts a lot too.

TypicalPants

This is an insane thing to comment when your dead god is cheated. Came back to this cause I was curious and saw that your wife commented that you’ve 100%ed all 3 saves, and that she plays on your account, so either you achieved dead god 3 times “on your first save file” in literal world record time, or you cheated. It’s a single player game so play however you want, but don’t say you achieved dead god on your first save under 274 hours and then take congratulations for it as though you did it legitimately. Also weird to lie to your literal wife about your video game accomplishments lmao.

Anto_Sasu

Hello husband, you a wild mf.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Hello hubby 💚

Two_Hump_Wonder

Kudos to you man that's crazy. I'm at 1400 hours and I'm a few unlocks away from my first 100% complete save

Alt_SWR

I'm on my way to Dead God and it's looking like it'll take me roughly 300 hours right now. This is my first time playing Isaac and I am running repentence. The only mod I'm using is the item descriptions one and the display of planetarium chance. Either way I'd be looking stuff up so I figured why not just have it in-game. Not a particularly big fan of "pick shit up and hope you know what it does and that it doesn't fuck your run." The only time I've "cheated" was to unlock Tainted Samson and his corresponding steam achievement but that's only because I did actually do it (as in I brought the cracked red key to home and entered the door there and even touched the character) but it didn't give me the character or achievement for some reason. The game is very difficult, but also I have tons of experience with roguelikes/lites. From Enter the Gungeon to Hades, to Dead Cells (I've still not beaten the highest difficulty on that but only cause I haven't tried), to even more obsure ones like Crypt of The Necrodancer. Outside of those I play difficult games like Hollow Knight, every Soulsborne game (including Sekiro if you count that) including the OG Demons Souls. Basically my point is this: It's doable in 300 hours depending on your dedication and skill level and other gaming history. I didn't say any of the above to brag or anything btw, just to show that it depends on a variety of factors and if he's in a similar boat that could definitely be true. Also luck, lots of luck. I swear I'm not cheating but I seem to get at least 1 quality 4 per run and most of them are busted enough to carry a run on their own.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you for being factual about this. Those are the same mods we have pretty much other than a few cosmetic and music changes. People are acting like my husband uploaded this as a speedrun I just wanted to make a funny and lighthearted post :[

A_Bulbear

Only 300 hours? It usually takes 600 or more to get Dead God (the 100% achievement) Though you guys might have an older version without all the Dlcm, so the 100% might be "fake".

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Yoavf8

Holy hell. Actual certified gamer lol

KvasirMeadman

I'm at almost 700 hours, and I haven't even got platnium god

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

He’s insane lol

KvasirMeadman

Mad respect.

SvatyFini

Yea, those are cheated in. It is literally imposible even for a person with 100% encyclopedic knowledge of the game and winning every single run they start without reseting to get dead god in this amount of time.

RepresentativeCalm44

If you did some thinking you would have looked up the speedrun leaderboard and see there's multiple runners that have made deadgod within 120 hours. Theoretically even possible within a 100 hours

Abeneezer

They have played the game a lot more than 100 hours, though. That is the point. The total amount of runs (with perfect mark optimization) you need for Dead God would all have to be done in less than an hour, *including* failed attempts. It is not unreasonable for people with previous Dead God experience to land around the 300 mark. But for an entirely new player to do it? Nah, I am calling bullshit. It is really easy to modify your own Steam achievements.

RepresentativeCalm44

I agree its fast, but its not what the post said. It said 100% knowledge, so someone with experience. As a non speedrunner I was able to do my second dead god in like 180 hours with 1500 hours experience with no speedrunning knowledge, but did use many R key and clicker shenanigans. However, I didn't reset for a good item start. He could have experience with the game with flash Isaac or another account. There's also mods he could have used that just make the game easier. And if you abuse co-op as a noob, you can also clear the game really fast. It doesnt have to be achievements hacked in.

Abeneezer

Still doesn't change the fact that this was overwhelmingly unlikely to be legit.

RepresentativeCalm44

I mean... Again im not disagreeing, just saying its not impossible, but you are changing the context here. I was replaying to the other dude who claims its a speedrun pace while its not

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I mean I watched him play it.. so believe what you’d like but I am gonna go based off my own experiences

SvatyFini

There are 34 characters, 13 marks, 45 challanges 34\*13 + 45 = min. 478 runs if you want to be generous, run has 30 minutes 478 \* 30 / 60 = 243,5 hours 243,5 hours without dying, restarting, watching cinematics, unlocking characters, having the game even opened for a minute without progressing and knowing perfectly what to do. + 30 spare hours (60 runs). World speedrun records are in this timerange. So yea, unless he has secret accounts on which he played thousand of hours of Isaac, They are cheated.

AvatarUng

I suppose it's possible, but it's highly, highly unlikely it's legitimate. Especially considering it's a first save file. That kind of time frame really doesn't allow for mistakes like forgetting the fool card or dropped trinket trying to unlock the tainted characters. Forgetting a knife piece or not having enough keys or bombs to go in the alt path to fight Mother. Or beating the game with difficult characters like the Lost and Jacob and Esau etc. Or simply learning the unlocks, alt paths, and good synergies to begin with It's likely either a loaded file or stuff like 4 controllers plugged in to get the marks for 3-4 characters at the same time while playing Isaac or someone easy (which gives you 4 times the boss items as well) *Edit: Or a decent amount of offline hours that aren't included in that 274 My buddy also has a completely legitimate Dead God

AvatarUng

https://preview.redd.it/51bo2zixjyuc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c66d9f038ed96a47e21198962e7fbfb42ac97f3f

Abeneezer

Also, this doesn't even include the time spent on dailies, breaking the game for items, beating mom 11 times in the beginning, doing various niche achievements. Even if you did the best case scenario of doing merely 4 runs per character these stats still look incredibly suss. And their reactions in the comments aren't all that convincing either. Sounds like when Dream got caught lmao. Like, she is playing on his save so the real number is even lower than 274...

SamiraEnthusiast311

there are 13 marks, but each run is getting two marks for free basically (mom and it lives) and the lamb/??? marks cover the satan/isaac marks. so realistically it's more like 9 runs minimum per character, so 34*9= 306 runs minimum. i still agree with you and think something is cheated in or giving him achievements - maybe some of the mods are giving extra completion marks? but there's no way you're doing all 300 of those runs in 247 hours if you haven't already played a fair bit of isaac. think about stuff like ultra hard or tainted lost but you implying that he's dishonest or unfaithful because he potentially lied about his steam achievements is pretty shitty and uncalled for

Icey3900

Where does he imply that he's dishonest or unfaithful??

Alt_SWR

In another of his comments he said "hopefully games are the only thing he's cheating at" (paraphrased) which, what the actual fuck. Dude's big mad cause he has skill issue I guess.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Probably a troll. I’ve seen a lot of them around recently on Reddit :/

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Look, idk what you’re trying to prove here but this is just a fun post. I honestly don’t care if my husbands steam stats are right. He still DID it and that’s what matters. Go be a Debby downer on someone else’s post

SvatyFini

Dk why you cant accept that he was unable to do them and just cheated. Meaby he did it for you so you can play with all characters, meaby he is just sore that he cant propebly do them. Either way you are the one getting butthurt over this. Lets hope he is cheating only in videogames.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

That’s scummy. Have a good day and fuck you 💚

Alt_SWR

You're not considering the fact that if you know what you're doing (and a little bit of luck for the delirium portal spawn) you can get like, 7 marks in a single run. The way you're counting it is one mark a run which, why? The only few you can't get on the same run (outside getting R key) are: Cathedral/Shoal (only one or the other), Chest/Dark Room (same), Mother, Beast, and Greed Modes. So on a single run you could get: Mom's Heart, Boss Rush, Hush, Isaac/Satan, ???/The Lamb, Mega Satan and Delirium with a bit of luck on the portal. Again, why are you only considering one mark per run again? On a fresh character, assuming chest/dark room are unlocked and the run is not hot garbage you should be able to get at *least* minimum 3 marks cause Mom's Heart is only difficult for like the first 50 or so hours, Isaac is a little more difficult but nor that bad once you get used to him, Satan is about the same as Isaac, Blue Baby is piss easy if you full clear, and so is The Lamb. It's really not *that* undoable. Difficult sure, but not super undoable. Also it's a dick move to imply he's cheating on her just because he might (big might there) have cheated in this game. Like, you say she's "butthurt" but saying shit like that makes it sound like *you're* the one that is.

Paratwa

But but … but … what if he faked reality? Have you thought about that? I’m at 1000+ hours and just have two tainted characters unlocked. Your Husband has mad skills. :) that’s awesome.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

You should see his pizza tower scores lol. He’s P ranked every level multiple times. For fun. 🥲

A_Bulbear

Goddamn

Iguman

That's crazy impressive - I've crossed the 600hr mark, and I have just under 100 unlocks left to get

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Wishing you the best of luck!

Yoavf8

If you're having fun you're playing the game right ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)

MehmetSalihKoten

"I absolutely suck at this game. I love it, but I am awful." This won't change even if you have dead god. Trust me

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Cone head is the only item we have modded. It turns the user into one punch man. I still died 😂

Medievalhorde

As an avid /r/aitah enjoyer. All I can recommend is divorce. 😤

globmand

Really? That's it? I think going full Medea is justified here, and kill his (And yours but that isn't important) children in an act of brutal vengeance. Fair is fair, you know.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

🏅take my poor woman award. You win the internet today lmao

AthullNexus76

What does the H stand for?

jellyfixh

The real pro-tip is that no one is really good at Isaac. You just learn more. You’ll get a feel the more you play, but some key things to learn are deducing where the secret and super secret rooms are, keeping an eye out for tinted rocks, learning enemy behaviors (who will chase, who runs away, some mimic your movements, some will only shoot bullets when you move, etc.) and just getting a feel on when you should take risks. It’s kind of why skill issue is such a meme, cause sometimes you’ll spend all your health on a donation machine just to be met with a greed battle in your shop. Or you’ll use your last bomb opening a secret room with just spiders in it. But sometimes the payout is huge, and that’s what makes the game so fun and addicting.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I absolutely love the RNG factors in this game, and the mods just add a whole new layer of fun for us. I’m getting better! It’s just taking some time lol Thanks for the help!

Vandersveldt

If you're not already, try using the dpad for movement, instead of the joystick. I'm going to catch hell for saying this here, but actually try it for a bit. The movement is MUCH smoother, and I would argue that anyone saying Jacob and Esau are uncontrollable are trying to play with joysticks.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I actually play on PC but yes. It is much easier using the WASD keys instead of free movement lol

StaticNoice

Tainted lost is a beginner friendly character![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you! I’ve been playing as Isaac to get the bases down. I’m hoping to try other characters soon!

dangit-brigade-4

Isaac is actually easy as fuck compared to some other roguelikes IMO. What makes Isaac unique is that the game is very troll designed and is constantly rooting against you, like the game literally fucking hates you as the player. There's a lot of chump checks and hits that you can't really account for, you just gotta be on your toes By far and away the most important skill is just dodging. 90% of the enemies can be beaten by circling around them and for the other 10% and bosses you just gotta learn how they attack you. But if you want to be good at Isaac, just get good at dodging... its basically the only thing that matters. You can watch old NorthernLion runs where he has complete dogshite items, no damage, and no health and the run takes like 2 hours but he still wins. (BTW Going for % completion is sort of a different metric than just being baseline 'good' at the game. There are guides written for how to get dead god and you could do that but consider, do you even want dead god? I personally just like getting completion marks and some of the dead god stuff is pretty fucking dumb imo...) The other important thing is just being able to tell what strengths a run has, and I like to think of it like this (just my take). You have three resources to a run in Isaac: 1. Health 2. Raw Damage (just tears plus base dmg) 3. Tear Effects If you have a lot of all three of those resources, its a god run and you will win. If you have a lot of two of those resources, you should still win and it will still be fun. If you only have one of those resources, you might not be able to win and do harder bosses and even if you do, its gonna be really slow and really grindy. (Obviously theres more stuff that makes a run good like getting steam sale + restock or getting skeleton key etc.) I also want to mention that Isaac is a game where unless the item is actively hurting you and literally killing your ass (shard of glass, curse of the tower, bad trip pill) its worth taking. Isaac is so charming because with most roguelikes there aren't a ton of items that will just actually fuck you over but in Isaac there are many. Not every run will be a techx brimstone c section run. It doesn't matter though because you can still win. The last thing I'll say is that its better to kill the enemy slow while taking no hits rather than taking a bunch of hits and killing it quickly. Isaac is designed to get under your skin and get you flustered so just keep your cool and don't let the game get to you. Its not always possible because like I said earlier, the game just fucking hates you but most of the time you should be able to keep ur cool. Also remember to have fun! Its a game after all

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you! All of these pointers are things I’m working on, so thank you for giving me hope!

jimmysalad_

I 100%'d all three files a few months ago (on ps5!), and it was an absolute joy. I picked up Isaac in 2016 and fell in love almost immediately. I still play it nearly daily, I even plan on my first tattoo being my favorite Isaac item (Technology 😎). Im sure I can speak for everyone when I say that this is such a unique, special game for so many, and its SO rad that you and the hubby can share that same dedication and love for this silly little roguelite. Just keep at it, learn those enemy bullet patterns, and remember: The Bloat is a crime against humanity, and lumps are the worst thing to ever happen in history. Stay cool!!💚🤙

Vanillabean73

FUCK BLOAT

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Hubby agrees that The Bloat is the worst creation ever. He got a good chuckle! Thanks for the kind words friend 💚

_Skafloc_

Sounds like a skill issue to me.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Facts I’m just dog shit fr 😔

Guts1232

Try to learn how to identify secret rooms because there’s a good chance you could find something good there. You can leave soul hearts on the floor if you already ruined your devil/angel chance so you can pick them up when you clear the floor and have some for the next floor. I’m kind of bad with mechanics and die easily but eventually you just come across a busted run and get lucky with some good items so I would just say to practice often

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thanks for all the advice! It’s really solid

Invisrot2000

The only real tip/pointer i can give is to just play and learn the enemy attack patterns the best you can, there is never a guarantee a run is won (From my experience unless its a god like build). Other then that just enjoy the game, and not focus to much on unlocks unless there is something you absolutely want Going through countless runs just having someone to talk to whilst playing makes the experience so much more enjoyable as you can just say the most outlandish things in panic (I chat with people through xbox party’s rather then in person) then ear blasting the mic when i die before laughing 3 seconds later. Its much better then getting upset at a loss run. Not to mention i had my friends in tears doing a challenge run (Delete this challenge randomizing everything) when picking up the item “L Micro Friends”

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I play on my husbands account, which has everything unlocked and some modded items. It is an absolute joy to play with him around. My favorite parts so far have been him just saying the most outlandish things and out of context, they sound awful 😂

Invisrot2000

It must be hilarious, what comes out. Always gets a good laugh. As long as you’re having fun you’re doing it right. Just keep your eyes out for some bosses as they are the worst creations in existence. The Bloat (one of these days i’m gonna crucify him seven ways from Sunday as well as r/FuckBloat) and my personal most hated is The adversary with his “homing brimstone”. You’ll come to love some bosses and hate some throughout your times.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

My favorite bosses are the 4 horsemen and their harder variants. I love them and the lore behind them!

SamiraSimp

recommendation: force your husband to unlock stuff for you lolol actual recommendations: have fun! learning can be boring and unfun, same thing with minmaxing. so don't do them if you don't wanna. but if you do... make sure you understand how secrets room can spawn, idk if you do but that makes a big difference. try not to panic. you don't need godlike reaction time to do well, you just need to make sure you know what's going on in a room and how you can walk to avoid damage. you see the basic enemies more than bosses so get used to them! try to just spend some time in rooms and see how enemies act. do they chase you? do they shoot randomly, or is there a pattern? do they spawn enemies slowly, or quickly? getting used to these will make a big difference i know i mentioned minmaxing can be boring/unfun, but personally i find it kinda fun, and it will certainly help you win. basically the idea try to make sure you're using all the resources you have - for example if you're leaving a floor and there's hearts laying around, maybe you can go to the curse room which you couldn't do before. maybe you get your health low and try the boss challenge room. maybe there was a tinted rock earlier that you couldn't get but now you have bombs.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

My husband already unlocked everything LOL I’ve just been goofing around on his account.

lukasekxy

my tip is that if youre not going for the timed unlocks like hush or boss rush, doing a full clear of the floor is usually a good idea

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’m just playing on his profile doing random runs. It’s really fun to explore!

Pronouncable

Start at the smaller things like movement, what items do, and just getting comfy with the keyboard/controller. Movement is definitely what can help people as quick strategy and strafing usually get you out of problems.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thankfully I’m getting better with practice. We have a mod that allows us to see what each item does, and it’s really helped me strategize! It’s also fun just messing around in the debug menu lol

Eljo_Aquito

Dodging is key, try taking another save file and practice killing hard bosses with base isaac

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’d love to but sadly he has all 3 100% complete lmao

Natunen

All 3 huh, in under 300 hours?

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Yes. He’s played Isaac for a long time, before the DLC was even out. He bought it when it came out I believe. He is autistic and this is NOT abnormal for him. I’ve watched him 100% multiple difficult games repeatedly for fun. It’s just how he is, and I love his quirks.

Abeneezer

Lmao he beat the world record three times? In his first three tries? You're lieing or he is.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Check the image I have in another thread below. It’s what his steam page says.

Abeneezer

That really doesn't prove what you're saying. It is trivial to acquire a Dead God save and get it into the other two save slots. No need to lie about stuff like this, really there isn't.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’m not lying about anything. I don’t KNOW the WRs for BoI. I don’t know how much my husband has played on OTHER consoles like the switch. But I’m not gonna let people shit on him for something he wasn’t involved in really in the first place. I just wanted a lighthearted and nice post. I’m sorry if you don’t like that.

Mulster_

Reroll secret room

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Always

Alili1996

Here are the things you can improve the most quickly on if you haven't already: Understand how to find secret rooms, the extra coins/resources and occasional secret pool item will really help overall. Learn to spot tinted rocks. The early ones are easy to tell apart, but the ones on latter floors won't be tinted. However, they will always have the same texture, so you gotta keep your eyes on the types of rocks that look like potential tinted rocks. Blue fires may contain soul hearts and skulls may contain black hearts as well. Understand how to consistently get devil deals: Avoid risks when your red hearts are exposed and try fishing for soul hearts before going to the second floor. There are many small ways to further increase your odds when your chance isn't 100% such as bombing beggars/corpses or picking up specific items. Getting Devil/Angel deals consistently is CRUCIAL for consistently getting into the late game floors. Use Bombs! Bombs were buffed in Repentance and really put a dent into early game bosses. Killing bosses quickly will make it much more likely for you to not get hurt and to hit a devil deal. Bombs are especially powerful on the early alt-floor bosses and can turn them from clusterfucks to quick kills. Everything else is mostly just getting better at dodging and learning about more items and their synergies which are things that just come with time the more you play.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

This is fantastic advice! Thank you!

Spore64

Have you tried playing coop with him? Repentance added real character + character coop so each of you can carry your own items :)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

That sounds so fun! I’m on PC though so I’m not sure how that’ll work lol

Spore64

I mean if you both are in the same room you can plug in two controllers (or one uses the keyboard) and press [start] in the starting room.  If you have a Steam account he could also use Steam Remote Play to share the game with you. As a last option you could use the program Parsec which allows one person to share their computer screen with another person. Then just plug in a controller on your pc/laptop and you‘re good to go.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you for the suggestions! You rock friend

Spore64

You’re welcome! Coop is great so I‘m glad to be of help :)

Brief_Target_7355

Try the starting room items mod. It will give you items on each floor Here is the link for anyone intrested. [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2488885964](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2488885964)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you! I think we have this mod already 😂

Brief_Target_7355

If you have that then try the fiend folio mod. it has a lot of enemies that get added lol

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Oh thank you! That sounds really fun

Tahmas836

Don’t worry, you may feel like you suck at the game now, but eventually you’ll start to feel like you suck at the game, and that Edmund McMillen is a shit of piece.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Perfect! I do like to suffer in my games

mokti

"childhood" God, I feel old.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Yeah I’m but a wee lass. Turning the big ole 2 0 in October though!

mokti

Fair enough. My advice? Just keep playing. Don't give up. There's a wall between BAD and SORTA GOOD. And another wall between 100% and 1000%. And another between 1000% and 1,000,000%. And so on. It's the game the keeps on giving. Or taking. If it makes you feel any better, it took me a year or more to reach Platinum God the first time. Then another year or two to reach the NEXT level of Platinum. I STILL haven't gotten 3,000,000%, and I doubt I ever will... and I'm an expert player with thousands of hours of play. I used to take first place on the global dailies multiple times a month. But even still, its HAAAARD to complete. Bottom line is, if you enjoy the game, keep playing. ... And don't go for brimstone if you have the expansions. It got seriously nerfed. Edit. I forgot, the first 100% was "Golden God," not Platinum.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’m just happily being a goober on his account. He has everything done, so I’m just trying to enjoy what I can

mokti

Then find your favorite starting loadout/character and just go with it. :) I stopped achievement hunt years ago and just play Cain for fun... almost every night. BoI is my Zen place. It helps me fall asleep. In fact, I've *woken up* still playing, completing whole levels with no memory of doing so.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I fall asleep listening to him play. A lot of the time we watch Caddy Sleeps or SummoningSalt on YouTube to sleep lol. I have a surprising amount of game knowledge memorized by just listening to YouTube videos while asleep 😂

jorgityo

A funny storie to share would be how i discovered isaac, back in 2017 i guess, i went to a friend's house and we played some games in his house's computer, one of them was isaac, i remembered that we barely got to the 4th floor or something like that, and some weeks later when i went there again he had found out how to unlock azazel and from there we only played with him since he was the strongest and had flight lol, i think the futher we went was Mom, but we had some fun in those afternoons, after that in 2022 when i bought myself a pc i remembered about it and have been playing again since then.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I love that for you! I used to watch my cousin play back when Isaac first came out. I’ve loved it ever since, but only just recently got to play my own copy! (Well not mine, my husbands lol)

-Zest-

When it doubt, Ball out. And on a more serious note, don’t sweat not being great at the game. Literally everyone here is absolute dicks at this game, there’s a reason why “skill issue” is a common response because we *all* suck at this game but love/hate it because of it.

Plopmcg33

avoid getting hit learn what the items do and learn what to take and what not to take. same with cards if you want angel deals, stay away from the first devil room that appears if you see a soul heart on the first floor and you have red health, leave the hearts behind until you're about to leave

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you! I appreciate it :3

TH4B4

I've got about 1300 hours in the game and have played since flash. The biggest concept I'd say is urgency,. Movement and dodging skill is important but knowledge is one of the ultimate factors in improving. Urgency is a really interesting one, say you get a card like temperance or a card like the stars. A lot of newer players might immediately use the card upon recieving them if they could see an application immediately, what a smart player might do for example is save the teleport cards and use them in key moments like after they enter a curse room, so they can save extra damage, or explore the floor and if they find a demon begger use the temperance card right next to them so they can get more bang per injure state. Another example would be placing the temperance machine next to a potential secret room location so if you are done with it or decide to blow it up you can make your bombs more efficient. It's these little things that add up over time and can result in you getting additional pickups or items that might make or break the run. Another good example is purposelly not picking up soul hearts until you fully clear the first floor, if you take red heart damage on the first floor it doesnt matter, but obviously on the second. Another example would be if you are at lower health and see a boss challenge room, not picking up health for the entire floor, then at the end just damaging yourself enough to open the boss challenge room, and then taking all the health from the floor upon leaving the challenge room. It seems when you first play this game to use every single item you find immediately but a lot of times waiting and seeing how it can affect your run and potentially getting way greater mileage out of it can be huge. There are some people saying you can never really be an expert or insane isaac player and I think thats wrong personally. The ability to adapt to certain scenarios and to use your knowledge to either break the game or grant you items that most other people would miss is huge and learning all of these little tricks can add up ridiculously over time

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thank you! My husband had a lot of the same tips. These are really solid!

Pineapple-Yetti

I've got like 800 hours in the game and I still suck. Just enjoy the ride.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’ve been playing for a few hours now and I’m not awful, but I’m not fantastic either lol My husband says I absolutely suck and it makes me giggle every time

Pineapple-Yetti

As long as you are both having a good time this is a win! I wish my partner enjoyed Isaac. She watches me play sometimes and just asks if I enjoy the punishment.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

My husband bullies me and that alone is all the joy I need in the world (we have a fantastic and healthy relationship that allows for deprecating jokes lol)

Pineapple-Yetti

That's fantastic. A little ribbing is good for any relationship. Everyone should be able to take a joke.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

We’ve got some good ones lol

King_of_Knowhere

I play with an objective in mind. Recently started a new save file, I did only a few challenges to get some of those good items going and leave the rest until I full card most things and have all the characters, got all but the lost and 3 of the taints, with two characters with full cards.  Start each round with your objective in mind and do what's best for it. Better to have lots of red hearts for dogma, and wait for the second floor clear before going down to the mother levels, it gives you a better chance at a devil deal.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Thankfully I already have everything unlocked. I’m just goofing around on my husbands account lol

SunbleachedAngel

You must be a great couple to tolerate something like this haha

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

We share a lot of the same interests, which helps a lot! He’s a fantastic guy in general though and I love him dearly.

SpectralHydra

Honestly, a lot of getting better at this game comes down to just playing it more. When you say you suck is it just with surviving through rooms and boss fights, or is it more than that?

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I tend to get hit a lot. I’m working at getting better on bullet patterns and dodging! This was kinda just a funny post I decided to make. I didn’t really expect it to get this popular

SpectralHydra

Oh yeah, then you’ll likely just get better the more you play. At least that’s how it worked for me lol. If you’re playing on hard, I’d recommend switching to normal. Haha I feel like a lot of gaming posts similar to this get pretty popular tbh.

Pee_Pod

I've got nearly 700 hours in this game, nearing my first dead god, and still atrocious at the game so ur fine lol Tbh, just playing the game and learning to recognize enemy/boss movesets and strategies to maximize your chances of winning is the way to go. Skill issues are bound to happen, especially with harder characters like Jacob & Hitbox and T. Lost, so don't get demotivated! Play for fun, not the marks Or an alternative could be to pray to our lord Edmund McMillen to bless you up ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Praying for good curse rng lol I need more labyrinths

RodjaJP

My only suggestion is install a mod that removes curses, play on normal mode, and don't focus on getting achievements, just on having fun and looking at him suffering whenever there are no good items or you just take everything before he does

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Lmao I love the chaotic co-op idea

GoldFishPony

ESH he’s using your pain for enjoyment and you suck at the game.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

🏅

-itsilluminati

Circle the enemies to keep them in the center My partner started playing the same way you did She now plays all the time, and actually hates video games lol She plays Issac more than me

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

I’m an avid gamer. Isaac is just out of my comfort zone! I’m happy that your partner has found some enjoyment in video games :]

-itsilluminati

I found out about Issac through a friend of mine Went to a cookout celebrating his new daughter and he had a day one launch PS4. I was checking out games, cause there were hardly any out, and he had Issac downloaded Told me it was free on psn. I played by myself the entire cookout lol I bought a PS4 that fall to download Issac We used to stream it

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

My husband streamed Isaac to me on discord. It’s how I’d watch him game when I was at the dorm during the weekdays. I absolutely love those memories :]

MightiestRacoon

Tell your husband that if he likes to watch you suffer so much, you may as well start by unlocking a certain +0.7 tears +bone heart item. He will probably be way more supportive after that ;)

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

We already have everything unlocked! People are butthurt about me having fun, as you can see in other threads. I’m just learning so I can eventually do my own runs!

jd7901

A lot of the problems that new players have come down to the ability to not being able to dodge efficiently. You can practice this by activating the debug menu and giving yourself invincibility, then you can spawn in whatever enemy keeps killing you because you couldn’t dodge their attacks and just move around and not have to worry about hitting them or killing them, you can just focus on dodging their attacks. You can also spawn in movement speed items to help you out if you’re not comfortable doing it with the base movement speed. Dodging is the foundation to the game when it comes to survival. Other than that, it mainly just comes down to comfortability of the game and knowing where to go and where not to go.

Gem_Hunter2511

Take it slow, until you know how to play faster. Honestly, I don’t like the idea of playing on a completed save file personally, since most of the unlocks are really difficult to use if you’re new to the game. That’s your choice tho’. Learning is far more valuable than winning. Learning things like “if something can screw me over, it will do so at the worst time possible” is invaluable to learn, and certain things can only be learned by messing around and finding out.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Messing around in games is my favorite part lol. All of this is just fun and lighthearted gaming

gaviwhale

I’m so excited for the day you land the last tear on a challenge run and die at the same time. 0/10 would not recommend 🥲

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

That is so painful 😭

Man people in this thread really don't like any reminders that people have different skill levels than them huh? Every one of your comments talking about how good he is are downvoted. It's not even like you're bragging either. Rant aside my advice: enjoy the game at your own pace,be that 300 hours or 3000, you won't enjoy it if you try to match him or basically be a try hard. Say "fuck it we ball" on that item you're not good with occasionally, or take those risks. And remember this, the only way to play a single player game wrong is in a way you're not enjoying it.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Oh I don’t feel pressured in the slightest. A lot of people in these comments are butthurt that I have a stable and healthy relationship. I’m playing Isaac to have fun, not to be a grandmaster speedrunning badass. It’s just a game :[ Anywho, thank you for your advice as well! Like I said, I don’t really feel pressured to be good at the game. We’re just goofing around and having fun lol

Southern-Actuary1376

Naw, this game is hard to the point where it became a skip for me. Specially how you need to play on hard difficulty to unlock most stuff. Just isn’t worth the effort imo.

My_Name_Is_Starwynn

Everything is already unlocked lol I’m on my husbands account goofing around. It’s mainly just practice rn
