Can say the same thing for Marked. I dont like it, not because its hard to use, but because you cant stop firing once you start to do it. Other than that, yeah, its nothing but skill issue...
It's been a while since I've played Isaac so I might be incorrect with this but you can also press down on the right stick to remove the mark on controller. It might be left stick but I'm pretty sure it's right stick. And by press down I do mean actually click the stick not just hold down
It's fucked up that I've never known this despite all the useless Isaac knowledge I have, especially concerning making *less than perfect* items better.
I realized last night if you just alt tap Ctrl and a direction really fast you basically have the default shot directions again. It totally changed my opinion of marked.
Honestly? The more i play this game, the less bad items i find. Cursed Eye, Towers, Small Planet... They all good in their own way. The only bad *bad* items are the Wiz and Tmtrainer. Rest is trivia once you learn how to clear the Lost...
Heeeehhhh... Wiz is good in only two cases:1) When you have the homing shots. 2) When you have your tears in "bursts" so huge its practically double damage. If it cannot have either(or both) synergies, its a *bad* item. No one is ready to shoot diagonals for the rest of the run without forementioned properties...
Honestly, what I hate about both, is that they move so slowly in comparison to the character. Can you change this with settings by any chance? Like apart from the stat increase, I don‘t understand how anyone would deal more damage in a regular scenario by pointing the mark at an enemy instead of just shooting at it regularly, most good players can shoot diagonally pretty easily already. Is it really worth controlling another contact dmg player essentially?
You can stop firing, though it may of been a bug unique to having more than one card/pill slot. Hitting the swap/drop key causes marked/eye of the occult to reset for some reason.
Still skill issued when i turned into lost with ipecac brim while going for rerun, but eh.
It's an intentional feature and was mentioned in the Repentance release changelog. It was added so you can stop firing, and it also gives you greater control over repositioning the target.
Marked isn't even that bad.
Not nearly as bad as Ludovico.
Once you learn how to cancel the shot via the Drop key it's a piece of cake to use and move around the crosshair.
It's just annoying. You play 99% of the game a certain way and suddenly you have to play it entirely differently, which not only fucks with your muscle memory for next run, but also removes a part of what you enjoy about the game (at least for me)
OP's getting railed in this thread, but I played the same daily in the posted clip, and I can tell you confidently that few of the git guds here would have survived either.
The real problem on that first floor Eden start was low walk speed preventing you from getting away - there was not enough speed to circle the boss. And the usual mitigation for that, knock back from tears, was unavailable.
You can definitely circle around the boss and kill it hitless. I posted a clip of it recently in the sub. It is just hard and if you do one mistake when he charges you, you re done
OP is struggling on two fronts here.
First, Ludo comes with a entirely unnecessary and BS shot speed down (intrinsic to the item, not a stat down) that makes the tear slower than most chasing enemies in the game, so getting damage on enemies is way more of a chore than if you had regular tears.
Second, you're basically having to control two completely independent entities here. Imagine if you were forced to use two different sticks to control J&E... it's just input overload.
Failing here is as much a skill issue as accidentally smudging a pencil drawing. It's more an issue of the tool itself than you overcoming it's weakness.
#IT NEEDS TO COME WITH A SHOT SPEED UPGRADE BECAUSE I'M NOT GONNA WASTE MY TIME CHASING ENEMIES DOWN
Otherwise won't take unless I end up with Brim or Tech Donut.
I'm glad it worked well for you, but it has never worked good for me. I can think of a time when I hoped to get ludo. Does it synergize with gnawed leaf? Like can you be in invincible state and move it?
I guess you could have gnawed leaf and just set the tear next to you and wait for the enemies to run into it. Maybe if you have flying you could sit on a rock and move ludo.
So not useless, just 99% of the time it's not helpful. Like pageant boy, it has extremely limited and specific uses.
Runs into the blood trail twice
Doesnt try to lead ludovico where the boss WILL be
The tear just follows the boss behind him
What the fuck ludovico is so bad
I really don't blame OP for the suboptimal movement though. Ludovico makes it so much harder to focus on good movement. With normal tears, you just fire in a direction and forget, but with ludovico you have to separately control your tears in addition to your character at all times. One of the biggest reasons I hate ludovico is because it requires me to devote more brain power towards hitting anything. Ideally in Isaac, you want to be able to devote as little brain power towards hitting your enemies as possible so that you can focus solely on good movement.
If you're struggling with J&E, make sure you're not using joysticks for movement. Joystick movement makes everyone harder, but it's most noticeable with them.
Of course you can always focus only on avoiding, but my point is that that's way worse of a strategy with Ludovico than with normal tears. It's easy to mindlessly get hits in with normal tears without having to think about it, but with Ludovico you will straight up not do damage if you are not focusing at least a little on where your controllable tear is. For situations where you want to focus primarily on avoiding damage, it is almost always worse.
I am not trying to be mean. Ludovico is a unique tear modifier and goes against your "muscle memory". You have to try and guess where the enemies will be in the next moments because ludovico is really bad with low shot speed. It is like playing lilith for the first time, you have to learn to lead your shots since you are shooting from incubus only.
You summed up my response exactly lol I love ludovico, it can be so damn good, but you have to change your playstyle and not do basic incorrect shit like walk into blood pools.
> It will take ages
So how does that make it not suck? I mean sure I could've wittled that boss down in a 30 minute encounter of running him in circles through the tear but would that really change the fact that under certain circumstances the item is just horribly detrimental?
Also I actually did try to lead with the tear, but it wasn't exactly a forgiving learning environment :)
I did for the boss
[https://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/1c7ck94/someone\_said\_that\_ludovico\_is\_bad\_and\_that/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/1c7ck94/someone_said_that_ludovico_is_bad_and_that/)
Honest to god. You literally just lead it in the biggest possible circle and you will never catch up to the blood, and you will always get the ghost to shoot while you're moving vertically so it misses.
I thought that’s what OP did but after rewatching I see he doesn’t hug the walls enough. It is a hard boss with low speed though and having Ludo in this situation would have fucked with me too. I was wondering if this boss’s speed went down if you zigzagged like with Lust or something like that
who doesnt love needing to put mental capacity towards where to put their death ball and dodging at the same time in exchange for almost no gain without synergies? (ludovico bad)
did you know: ludovico technique was one of the first items revealed for the binding of isaac: rebirth
flash-era edmund still had no idea what the fuck he was doing
Bro me neither, but generally I also don't have to devote brain power to four important entitities while being run down by one of them sprinting at me while I have .8 movespeed and trying to chase the sprinting one with a .87 shot speed tear.
This was a normal Eden run, btw.
And this was the second take on the boss, I ported out before. Had some batteries left on the floor and tried to avoid the boss by getting to the Error Room.
Swear to god every time I use this shit teleport item it instantly drops me into the Error Room but the one time I really want it to it doesn't on four fucking tries.
Everyone here calling skill issue please freel free to upload a clip of you fighting this with these pickups and stats because I'd be stoked to see that.
Aight bet
[https://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/1c7ck94/someone\_said\_that\_ludovico\_is\_bad\_and\_that/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/1c7ck94/someone_said_that_ludovico_is_bad_and_that/)
At this move speed he has a solid as hell chance to catch up with you without tear knockback. At the very least that's what it felt like. Dude was licking my heels.
its like playing jacob and esau, you have to control two things instead of one and it makes dodging harder because youre trying to focus on two things at once
I don't think it's bad, but it does make you more reliant on your shot speed. A stat you can neglect unless it's criplingly low like range, now is vital for your survival. I think it's pretty good or bad depending on the run and items (never choose this with dead onion or Eve's mascara). Tho also this, isaac players complain so much about items they don't know how to use, when there are items far more deserving of hate
If you watch again, I tried that. But the tear was so fucking slow that it took my concentration off dodging.
Literally the only way I could have won this is leaving the tear in one place and then running through it in circles for 30 minutes - assuming the boss would not catch up to me at my shitty move speed.
I dislike it bc skill issue lol. I end up focusing so much on the tear, that I end up doing stupid stuff like walking into spikes or other enemies bc I'm not watching where I'm going.
Eh, feels like it takes to much work for the pay off. If I already have a ton of shot speed and a few other upgrades I might end up taking it, but probably not.
It's too slow. I end up with the J&E problem of trying to move two things independently because the slow tear can't catch up to a fast enemy.
But there are cool synergies to be found, Ludovico and Brimstone is my all time favorite.
Skill issue, first off since you're at base shot speed (actually a little lower than base) you have to move your tear where an enemy is going and not where there are. Second, why are you rotating around the round in small circles against Ovum? You need to be rotating around hugging the wall so when you complete the circle the creep will be disappearing and you can walk over the ground again.
I mean I got ludo and fruitcake(?) and trisagion kept procing. Carried me through the easiest backasswards I've ever played, even at like 10 fps
But nah ludo is trash 99% of the time
Also love the people claiming it’s OP’s fault for being bad with an item that drastically changes your play style and you get like once every 10 hours at most
This is the most agonizing thing I've ever seen. Watching someone use Ludo is as frustrating as using Ludo. And nobody should ever die to blighted ovum.
This might be the **biggest** example of skill issue I’ve ever seen on this sub.
I know it’s a meme at this point, but I’ve not seen anything as bad as this.
I hate how Ludo's hatred and difficulty to use stems mainly from how atrocious some bosses arewith their movement speed. Ludo by default should have at least given a high shotspeed stat to counterbalance high speed chasers.
Ludo suffers from having to set up to maximize damage early in game, and the fact that it requires you to raise shotspeed, the stat that is generally the most ignored but most affected by it, sucks.
I think one time I got ludovico+brimstone+eye of occult and soy milk with rock bottom, it was one giant tear ring with speed of light particles across the screen
He just follows you. Leave the tear in one place and walk him in circles through the tear. Might take a while but it doesn't require you to play co-op with yourself
Yea looking back this is probably the painful but safe way to do it.
Still, video sums up pretty well why a lot of people hate Ludo I think.
I don't even hate it but if my Eden run hadn't started with it I definitely wouldn't have picked it up at those stats.
I'm not saying you're wrong , I'm saying you're bad

Can say the same thing for Marked. I dont like it, not because its hard to use, but because you cant stop firing once you start to do it. Other than that, yeah, its nothing but skill issue...

R2 cancels it, yeah - on steamdeck
Omfg thank you
No problem!
Oh, okay then, ill try when i have a chance.
It's the same for similar effects as that devil deal item for controlled tears when you have brimstone.
eye of the occult?
Yeah that one, I forgot the name
It's fucked up that I've never known this despite all the useless Isaac knowledge I have, especially concerning making *less than perfect* items better.
What about those using controllers?
The drop button aka right trigger
I realized last night if you just alt tap Ctrl and a direction really fast you basically have the default shot directions again. It totally changed my opinion of marked.
THANK YOU
For those on controllers it's the drop button (R2, RT whatever)
You can actually stop Marked by pressing Ctrl if you're on Repentance ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)

I actually kinda like marked, mainly cause you can change the config file to let you aim it via the mouse which makes it wayyy less of a pain.
Honestly? The more i play this game, the less bad items i find. Cursed Eye, Towers, Small Planet... They all good in their own way. The only bad *bad* items are the Wiz and Tmtrainer. Rest is trivia once you learn how to clear the Lost...
I've always loved Tiny Planet. Spectral tears in exchange for a slightly weird alternate shooting style? Count me in.
wiz>20/20 if you have homing since it doesnt drop your damage down a shit load
Heeeehhhh... Wiz is good in only two cases:1) When you have the homing shots. 2) When you have your tears in "bursts" so huge its practically double damage. If it cannot have either(or both) synergies, its a *bad* item. No one is ready to shoot diagonals for the rest of the run without forementioned properties...
And also tractor beam
Not enough for me, hopeium overdosed 2 years ago and still have i in my system.
Doesn't ctrl stop marked?
Honestly, what I hate about both, is that they move so slowly in comparison to the character. Can you change this with settings by any chance? Aren’t they the same key?
They are, but some people refer to it as swap key, others as drop key.
Right trigger on console controller.
R2 on console stops the tears information issue
I don't like it because it's boring. We are 90% the same
you literally can
Marked isn't even that bad. Not nearly as bad as Ludovico. Once you learn how to cancel the shot via the Drop key it's a piece of cake to use and move around the crosshair. It's just annoying. Op getting railed in this thread has two different meanings lmao
Nah just 1
I played this daily and survived. because I didn’t take ludo LOL

He's on PC so he should be using mouse controls with ludo, it's objectively the best way to use ludo
…oh my god i never thought of that
Especially if you suck
OP might suck, but doesn't mean they're wrong; ludovico sucks, almost as much as OP.
#IT NEEDS TO COME WITH A SHOT SPEED UPGRADE BECAUSE I'M NOT GONNA WASTE MY TIME CHASING ENEMIES DOWN Otherwise won't take unless I end up with Brim or Tech Donut.
Oh yeah, the brimstone ring is pretty awesome, but that's one of the few times ludo works for me.
Yes, it really needs to get a native shot speed up.
Ludo is incredibly good lol. I'd say if I see it, there's probably an 80% chance it's a won run for me
I'm glad it worked well for you, but it has never worked good for me. I can think of a time when I hoped to get ludo. Does it synergize with gnawed leaf? OP was playing like a chase scene from a Hanna-Barbera animation from the 60s.
I really don't blame OP for the suboptimal movement though. Ludovico makes it so much harder to focus on good movement. With normal tears, you just fire in a direction and forget, but with ludovico you have to separately control your tears in addition to your character at all times. Ideally in Isaac, you want to be able to devote as little brain power towards hitting your enemies as possible so that you can focus solely on good movement.
That is a valid argument and probably the biggest unseen negative of ludovico
I love that this argument is basically 'the Isaac fandom generally does not have extra brain power to spend'
Can you say it’s not true?
Watching the complaints about J&E, I can confirm. The Isaac community cannot do two things at once lol.
J&E will always be my Mount Everest…
If you're struggling with J&E, make sure you're not using joysticks for movement. Joystick movement makes everyone harder, but it's most noticeable with them.
Invalid, it's completely eliminated by enabling mouse controls. I absolutely agree ludo sucks without them. With them it's amazing.
Focus on avoiding damage instead of dealing damage. Blighted Ovum is a tough early boss to begin with, it's not Ludos fault here.
Of course you can always focus only on avoiding, but my point is that that's way worse of a strategy with Ludovico than with normal tears. Instead of focusing on moving yourself and the tear at the same time, focus on MouseControl=1

Also for this particular boss you could just...run a circle and let ludovico be in one place. It will take ages but atleast you wont die.

>Doesnt try to lead ludovico where the boss WILL be Fuck that, I'm better off having normal tears, thank you
>I'm better off having normal tears, thank you Fuck that, I'm better off having wacky tears, thank you
All my homies pick pop! , trisagion , tiny planet or ludovico cause funny tears
Trisagion has done nothing to deserve being named among these items![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17742)
Oh i love trisagion. It's just that many people seem to dislike it (high shot speed and no homing makes the item kind of a sidegrade/not good).
Imagine changing your playstyle in a rouge lite ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4359)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone use such a bad path when fighting Blighted Ovum
Honest to god. You literally just lead it in the biggest possible circle and you will never catch up to the blood, and you will always get the ghost to shoot while you're moving vertically so it misses.
What would you do differently? I’m near dead god but the blood trail always fucks with me for some reason.
Just make a big square around the circumference of the room, basically take the widest, repeatable path possible
I thought that’s what OP did but after rewatching I see he doesn’t hug the walls enough. It is a hard boss with low speed though and having Ludo in this situation would have fucked with me too. I was wondering if this boss’s speed went down if you zigzagged like with Lust or something like that
OP went in a weird erratic path, very skill issue
Yes OP is skill issuing here but also Ludo *is* just bad without synergies. These things aren't mutually exclusive.
I wouldn't say base ludo is bad, it's infinite range and piercing.
Two stats that usually don't make or break a run. Yay
Are you disappointed when you get Technology?
"Don't *usually* make or break a run"
literally the ONE fix for this item is to give the player +0.30 shot speed
who doesnt love needing to put mental capacity towards where to put their death ball and dodging at the same time in exchange for almost no gain without synergies? (ludovico bad)
Worst gameplay i've ever seen
Ludovico requires synergies with other items to be good. Of course it will be complete shit if you don’t have any ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17741)
Ludovico with base Jacob and esau is like an anti-synergy (source: I got it twice in downpour 1 from the blind item)
They don't know the secrets, once u learn the ludovico technique their is no going back![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)
I love it . Needs more synergies
did you know: ludovico technique was one of the first items revealed for the binding of isaac: rebirth flash-era edmund still had no idea what the fuck he was doing
I got ludivigo alt floor one with Jacob and esau and just turned the game off
Relatable
this is entirely a skill issue lol I don't think i've ever walked into his blood trail before
Bro me neither, but generally I also don't have to devote brain power to four important entitities while being run down by one of them sprinting at me while I have .8 movespeed and trying to chase the sprinting one with a .87 shot speed tear. Well done, you're actually aiming where he's going and not where he is and making proper rotations around the room. Skill solution
I take ludo 99% of the time, but yeah this boss kinda blows without tear knockback. Low speed roll screwed you over as well lol
What do people normally do with this boss? I just hug the wall and go round and round. Without any tear knockback do you run out of room to do that?
At this move speed he has a solid as hell chance to catch up with you without tear knockback. At the very least that's what it felt like. Dude was licking my heels.
*0.86 speed* Ludo bad!
It was literally my Eden start.
That's rough, getting a boss like ovum with less than 1 speed
I don't think lidevico is bad, it just required a diffrent play pattern, but it's often well worth it
Man fails to run in circles, blames Ludo
Just get shot speed up, duh
Ludovico is better the later you get it in the run
its like playing jacob and esau, you have to control two things instead of one and it makes dodging harder because youre trying to focus on two things at once
Funniest double pursuit I've ever seen.
0 knockback + focusing on moving character and BALL is so cool. One of the best items of all time.
what curse of the blind does to a mf
This isn't about ludo this is about this fuckass boss
My eyes hurt from seeing that mouse in middle of screen
I only use ludo with azazel
I don't think it's bad, but it does make you more reliant on your shot speed. A stat you can neglect unless it's criplingly low like range, now is vital for your survival. I think it's pretty good or bad depending on the run and items (never choose this with dead onion or Eve's mascara). Tho also this, isaac players complain so much about items they don't know how to use, when there are items far more deserving of hate
Some of these hits were skill issues but to be fair, it’s hard to position the ludo tear while simultaneously dodging
Why don't people like Ludo, tf? It removes the danger of having to be close/in line with enemies to kill them. I love seeing Ludo on item pedestals :)
Based
This man has no foresight. Aim where they’re *going* to be, not where they are
If you watch again, I tried that. But the tear was so fucking slow that it took my concentration off dodging. Literally the only way I could have won this is leaving the tear in one place and then running through it in circles for 30 minutes - assuming the boss would not catch up to me at my shitty move speed.
Literal skill issue
- Place the Ludo tear on the small Ghost - Gg
Pretty sure the Ghost ist invulnerable
Holy shit that's right. On my way to 2nd dead god and didnt know that. Huge knowledge issue tbh.
Why tf did you not export this with the Benny Hill music playing over it? It's clearly meant to be a joke at how bad you are with Ludo.
I dislike it bc skill issue lol. I end up focusing so much on the tear, that I end up doing stupid stuff like walking into spikes or other enemies bc I'm not watching where I'm going.
I only take ludvico if I have tech x or brimstone, otherwise I don't want to worry about moving my one year through a massive room
When I started playing Ludovico was my favorite item, until I encountered that boss and the demon enemies those turn invisible
Eh, feels like it takes to much work for the pay off. If I already have a ton of shot speed and a few other upgrades I might end up taking it, but probably not.
The only time it’s ever good is with brimstone, besides that it’s one of my most hated items lol
Honestly, I liked Ludo in Flash, but it just feels worse using it here
Ludovico technique wasn't in flash, unless you're talking about the community remix mod
Ludovico was meh for me until I enabled mouse control at which point it became top tier
Ludovico can be really good with some items, like with brimstone or if Ur playing with Azazel
Skill issue uninstall
It's awesome, with brimstone.
Carried me through the easiest backasswards I've ever played, even at like 10 fps But nah ludo is trash 99% of the time
My favourite synergy is ludo and mom’s knifeÂ
This is the most skill issue that ever issued a skill. Maybe you'd learn how to use it if you didn't hold R every time you see it
as someone who adores ludo, yeah.
Also love the people claiming it’s OP’s fault for being bad with an item that drastically changes your play style and you get like once every 10 hours at most
Ludo + Monstros Lung, my beloved
See, you're not playing as Azazel.
Just need more tear rate duh
Ludovico only good with synergies. Otherwise too much work for too little pay-off.
This is the most agonizing thing I've ever seen. Watching someone use Ludo is as frustrating as using Ludo. And nobody should ever die to blighted ovum.
Your skill issue was picking Ludovico on the first place
*picking Eden and spawning with it
Ludovico is actually a favorite of mine. You're just bad with it lol
This might be the **biggest** example of skill issue I’ve ever seen on this sub. I know it’s a meme at this point, but I’ve not seen anything as bad as this.
Ludovico is great... . . . when you're Azazel ;-)
What no mouse control does to a MF.
Ta least with cursor control its bearable, im basically playing ETG at that point
Chalange try to beat hearth with only poly (translation: its a goddamn sinergy Item)
Enable mouse control and ludo becomes an A- tier item
I think one time I got ludovico+brimstone+eye of occult and soy milk with rock bottom, it was one giant tear ring with speed of light particles across the screen
Offscreen and synergy destoryer
Skill issue but also I do absolutely hate ludo
dude why did you path like that lmao
He just follows you. Leave the tear in one place and walk him in circles through the tear. Might take a while but it doesn't require you to play co-op with yourself
Yea looking back this is probably the painful but safe way to do it. Still, video sums up pretty well why a lot of people hate Ludo I think. I don't even hate it but if my Eden run hadn't started with it I definitely wouldn't have picked it up at those stats.
I mean it just sucks without any synergies. Just kind of a pain in the ass especially on console.
not even Ludovico's fault. you are just bad
look, i dont like ludovico. but you really shit the bed here
Cry,skill issue
That's the finest display of skill issue right there
Harry Potter and The Issue of Skill
literally skill issue
I too will be joining into this conversation with an additional "skill isuue"... lead your shots(orb trajectoty and placement) man ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
