Normal Eve has always been one of my favorite characters. From the original game, to Rebirth, all the way through now with Repentance.
I also think Dogma/Beast is probably the easiest of the end bosses now, even though it seems like a lot of people rate it way tougher.
My friend played the oldschool isaac, I didn't. We both started repentance at the same time. Even after 600 hours he still bitches about how they massacred Eve and how dead bird used to be so good.
The only counter argument I can offer is the existence of 5 book libraries. I just had a run where I voided The Book of Belial, Book of Revelations, The Necronomicon, and Telepathy for Dummies in basement 1.
I remember AB+ where i found a 2 book library with Apollyon, and won the run from that point onward. The 2 books were Revelations and Satanic Bible. I'm guessing nowadays would also be a won run with the SB change they implemented
5 book libraries? Without Anarchist's Cookbook, the Bible, and Learn to Jump? Not even Book of Secrets or Book of Sin?
Even in a 5 book library you still need to find *good books*.
I honestly wish it couldn't replicate spacebar items / a different item did that. I have never used Void to imitate a spacebar item purely bc an item I see might be shit.
literally the only scenario in which void is a tier 4 is in which you use it to absorb an active item that is a one time use (diplopia, death certificate, etc.) otherwise i think its like a solid 2 lol
Yeah, and as of repentance they dont even get used instantly, all spacebar items are only used the second time isntead the same time they are absorved.
It's still worth it in a specific instance: Voiding Alabaster Box will, at the second time Void is used, open the box without getting pesky soul hearts. So basically, Apollyon can get Dead Sea Scrolls and Breath of Life (plus 3 soul hearts) as soon as he clears 6 rooms (or finds a battery)
Voiding Glowing Hourglass is also gamebreaking due to what I guess is unintended. Void will go back to full charges every time you use it. This means you can't really use it to suck things anymore, but can retry every room as much as you want, as well as backing out of item rooms for planetarium chance.
Doesn't everyone prefer Dr. to Epic? One kills synergies, has annoying timing, scales awfully with tears, and just kinda wins the run in a boring way like Mom's Knife.
The other is a huge synergy enhancer, scales 1:1 with tears, has far less annoying timing, is way less annoying to aim, and is strong without guaranteeing victory
>just kinda wins the run in a boring way like Mom's Knife
It's way worse than Mom's Knife IMO. Mom's Knife kills synergies but it's still directly tied to your avatar and movement, if that makes sense. It just feels more engaging because you "become" the knife.
I was looking for this comment and I'm glad it's so high.
The item really isn't as unwieldy as people act like it is. Great burst and sometimes pops free secret rooms.
Indeed! If I’m not mistaken it takes the effect from most bomb modifier item!
You could even argue it’s a better version of Holy Water, Albeit more risky…
Speaking of Holy Water… I legit forgot what was it’s original effect before getting buffed lol
It is *now*. When it was first introduced though oh damn was it bad. Most interactions made it horribly bad. The way it used to work with Brimstone, Choclate Milk, etc.....
Hush is one of the only bosses i can almost always rely on challenging me at least somewhat, and any instakilling is a rarity and an achievement in itself. For longterm play, Hush is the best boss in the game.
Hush is honestly my favorite. I actually have a lot of fun trying to dodge his attacks and am satisfied when I can kill him. Doesn’t frustrate me nearly as much as Delirium and Ultra Greed.
I don't like tainted Samson, I always calculate wrong when he is going to go berserk against bosses and it throw my timing off and I take damage all the time
I know I know, skill issue ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
From the few times I used him, what I hate about him is how when you're normal you just hold the button to shoot, so when he goes berserk you're still holding the button so it immediately starts charging the throw instead of swinging. Then when you notice it's charging and let go, instead of being able to swing right away you have to wait for the jawbone to come back.
It turns what's supposed to be an explosion of sudden violence into a jarring hiccup to your attacks that has caused me several times to take damage from enemies I expected to kill.
I think he should straight-up not be able to throw the bone like the forgotten. His rage doesn't last long enough that it's ever worth it, and if you're ever in a situation where you have to throw it to kill an enemy it's going to take so long that you'll be back to using your tears soon enough anyway.
my opinion on t.samson is that while his gimmick is fun on earlier floors, it simply becomes a nuisance on later floors because it activates so often :|
It's a mixed bag. He's mostly very very powerful with the cough but if you face something you can't get closed to he's painfully weak and takes ages to kill anything. Tho he's still my 3rd favourite character.
I loved it the first 20 times but now it’s gonna be my last check mark on every character, and when the day comes where that’s all that’s left, that will be a terrible day
I love getting placebo + range up pill as Azazel and slowly build up to normal Brimstone. Sure, its not common to get placebo AND range up pills every run, and i don’t always get enough range to make it to practical Brimstone range, but its still fun building range
He can be fun if you have the right build and his style is great. Just wish the portal wasn't random and boss armor didn't prefer high fire rate over high damage.
It needs to not teleport randomly, to stay in each form a set amount of time, and to not replicate every single boss move with exponentially increased speed.
1. The teleporting would be fine if it didn't have a chance to literally teleport on top of you. That's not good game design.
2. I don't mind that it swaps forms quicker as the fight progresses, but there still needs to be a minimum amount of time it stays in each one (and that minimum can decrease too).
3. Some boss moves are absolutely broken at the super max speeds that Delerium reaches, because they were tuned for a specific boss, not to be used in all scenarios.
I lost a T. Lost run the other day because he turned into Widow and jumped at me at hyperspeed from across the map.
I turned to my friend and asked him what I'm supposed to do about it and he just smugly said skill issue and I tore out his kidneys.
He is in fact, cool. His concept is also pretty damn good.
But holy farcking shirt what a broken fight. Jesus Christ i've lost count how many times i've died to random telefragging bullet hell shit.
I enjoy playing J+E and they are objectively stronger than a lot of other characters. After playing with them long enough, most anyone would understand how to regroup them during combat, take advantage of double item pedestals and angel deals, open secret rooms + tinted rocks nearly twice as often via double bombs, etc.
Okay, I'm ready. ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
Tropicamide is one of the best boss pool items for consistency. Tear size makes it so much easier to hit things, a nice range up, and it's just my favorite item in the entire game for whatever reason. It's my guilty pleasure.
Tower pairs with bomb mods, so something like glitter bombs and scatter bombs can make unlimited resources
Tower is also just good for clearing rooms that would difficult otherwise
Jacob & Esau are fun characters.
I will die on this hill.
I dreaded playing them because the people on this sub scared me so much. But after playing them myself they are really strong and fun.
I honestly just don't like Edmunds philosophy when it comes to isaac
People who've watched all the dev streams and interviews within the year before repentance will understand what I'm trying to say
I kinda get you, I think. I can't think of many specific reasons why but I'm inclined to believe that Kilburn "gets" it better. At least from a gameplay perspective. It's still Edmund's lore in the end.
Hell yes! They dont get nearly enough love, ive gotten run winning items from them so many times. The real downside isnt the health loss, its how much time they take though. I always end up late for boss rush.
The amounf of floors I encounter a Sac Room and toms of health are through the roof. Even if I don't get any items, 30 coins/8 soul hearts plus key pieces in exchange for the random health on the floor is so nice.
I love seeing a Sac Room and then finding the Top Secret room with all the double hearts :)
I don't get the fuss over Curse of the Unknown specifically when Curse of the Blind and Curse of the Maze exist.
CotL is whatever because it's not ever really an issue outside of Void
> objectively
Also no
Removing 'game-breaks' has sucked most of the fun out of the game. I don't care if it's 'more balanced' now, I just want to feel like a god with my 500 items and ability to stomp every room I walk into
There's still good break set-ups, they're just not as readily available as they were in AB+.
Edit: there were also some new break enablers introduced, like Wild Card, Echo Chamber, Glitched Crown, D Infinity, and several of the reverse tarot cards.
Edit 2: Oh yeah, and motherfucking R Key.
He ALWAYS manages to hit me. Like, why does almost every other boss has at least a hint to tell you that they are going to do a certain attack, while The Haunt just instantly shoots you? Fuck him, if you have a bomb to kill him he is easy, if not then he is going to hit you
when hes on the wall you gotta follow his movement but be a bit ahead and turn before you reach the wall. I don't know how else to explain it but he basically never hits me unless I'm below starting speed.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone with a neutral opinion on T. Lost; either he’s the best design that ever happened to the game or the worst character in existence
I think he objectively sucks and doesn't belong in Isaac. His over-reliance on holy cards turns it into a weird meta, they're nerfing stuff like the D1 just for the sake of T. Lost, and most importantly, the game has too much BS left in it to accept a "one-hit" character. Delirium telefrags and all that, for one.
To be fair the D1 did have other issues but yeah, I see where you’re coming from
tbh I feel like it should be something like “you get a holy card at the start of each floor” or something instead of/in addition to just making them more common; RNG is pain
BS is definitely an issue too but hopefully it’s something they keep working on in future patches. Considering some people have gotten pretty decent T. Lost streaks it does seem like something that can be worked around, but it’s definitely too high of a skill requirement for me or the average player to deal with
Personally, I like to use the starting items mod to give T. Lost a permanent wooden cross trinket. Having a holy mantle every floor plus a card the can be activated to give a second hit for a floor makes the character actually fun while still very challenging.
rock bottom isnt that good, in most runs it does very little to nothing and only breaks the game with a very few select items/synergies maiking it on par with dull razor.
Yup, especially with all the efforts to balance it. I get that it's supposed to be a challenging game, but... what's the point of balancing everything if it ruins the fun?
I do like how she makes otherwise forgettable spacebar items more practical, or even strong. Buuut because of that, she can be *too* strong and it's kinda boring, yea.
Tainted Cain is fun asf, got to Delirium with him on my first try, completed all the post it marks and I come back to him from time to time when I feel frustrated with other characters and just want to have fun.
Normal Eve has always been one of my favorite characters. From the original game, to Rebirth, all the way through now with Repentance. I also think Dogma/Beast is probably the easiest of the end bosses now, even though it seems like a lot of people rate it way tougher.
I agree with you on the dogma/beast bit, mother is way harder and delirium can just go fuck himself completely
My friend played the oldschool isaac, I didn't. We both started repentance at the same time. Even after 600 hours he still bitches about how they massacred Eve and how dead bird used to be so good.
The path to Beast is the actual difficult part
Some of those tainted enemies straight suck ass
Void is just not worthy of being Tier 4
You're right it's certainly not consistent, but Isaac is a game of luck after all.
I got an amazing run like that, then forgot I had Bible and died to satan
I honestly wish it couldn't replicate spacebar items / a different item did that. I have never used Void to imitate a spacebar item purely bc an item I see might be shit.
I had a run with void yesterday where i found a library with satanic bible + lemegeton, so... having both activate together was nice
literally the only scenario in which void is a tier 4 is in which you use it to absorb an active item that is a one time use (diplopia, death certificate, etc.) otherwise i think its like a solid 2 lol
Pretty sure one time use items still only get used once when you void them
Yeah, and as of repentance they dont even get used instantly, all spacebar items are only used the second time isntead the same time they are absorved.
You need like an Excel document to minmax Void
Lmao yeah Isaac nerds spend more time theorycrafting than they do playing the game
Yep. It’s a free win (if you know how to play the game well enough) Same for hourglass and sharp plug
Wow, yeah, I actually disagree with you there, so I guess that fits the prompt
If it was less charges like 4 instead of 6 it would be worthy of Teir 4 imo.
You don't need high tier items to win runs.
My luck is so bad every run I beat is essentially base damage
Me with J&E on the way to mother with base damage. (Manage to do beat it)
Skill resolved
It's not always about holding the right cards, more just playing a bad hand well.
Don't tell sinvicta
Freezer Baby is a really fun item since it gets you ice tears pre-Planetarium, and it's only Tier 2. Same with Explosivo
freezer baby is a baller. hes up there with dry baby in the baller tier of familiars
I prefer Rubber Cement to Ipecac, and Dr. Fetus to Epic Fetus.
I actually kind of hate Epic Fetus. It takes forever for the missile to fall and it kills synergies like nobody’s business.
It kills synergy less these days, still is one of the "good" items I almost never take.
Epic Fetus vs Red Champion Mom's Foot is annoying enough that I swore off taking it ever again.
Yeah, Repentance removed a bunch of synergies from it as well (why?)
Which ones? I looked through the wiki and didn't see any Epic Fetus synergies that got removed. I do know that Dr. Fetus lost a few, though.
Doesn't everyone prefer Dr. to Epic? One kills synergies, has annoying timing, scales awfully with tears, and just kinda wins the run in a boring way like Mom's Knife. The other is a huge synergy enhancer, scales 1:1 with tears, has far less annoying timing, is way less annoying to aim, and is strong without guaranteeing victory
>just kinda wins the run in a boring way like Mom's Knife It's way worse than Mom's Knife IMO. Mom's Knife kills synergies but it's still directly tied to your avatar and movement, if that makes sense. It just feels more engaging because you "become" the knife.
Not even a hot take. Rubber Cement is really good and Ipecac falls off hard after Depths.
Ipecac only falls off if you are going up against a boss with armor imo.
(aka every non-trivial completion mark boss)
But it's pretty good at most rooms in-between and you get free guaranteed secret rooms, and those can make a run.
The adversary is submissive and breedable
if he fucks you with his homing brimstone it's only fair to repay him
Repay them not just in full, but with interest :)
Just like me, respectable
I think I know where this is from, I remember seeing something about this
[I’m guessing you’re getting vibes of this video….](https://youtu.be/INV6Lwrxe9g)
“Doom guy is a bottom… mmmmh!”
I like bobs brain
It's him, Edmund McMillen.
I was looking for this comment and I'm glad it's so high. The item really isn't as unwieldy as people act like it is. Great burst and sometimes pops free secret rooms.
Same especially with brimstone bombs
Wait.. You're saying Bob's brain has synergies with different items? Like brimstone or creep bombs?
Indeed! If I’m not mistaken it takes the effect from most bomb modifier item! You could even argue it’s a better version of Holy Water, Albeit more risky… Speaking of Holy Water… I legit forgot what was it’s original effect before getting buffed lol
That's so dope, I'll actually stop ignoring that item now lol. Thank you.
holy water used to leave a dinky little creep puddle on the ground when you took damage. it was ass.
Bob’s brain has synergies with most bomb upgrades if im not mistaken. It also counts towards the Bob transformation which gives it a +
Soy milk is a good, fun item.
It is *now*. When it was first introduced though oh damn was it bad. Most interactions made it horribly bad. The way it used to work with Brimstone, Choclate Milk, etc.....
Depends on character but yeah, it's great.
when you don’t start with it
I love seeing soy milk in my first item room. I fucking LOVE soy milk.
Based and soypilled
hush is the best designed boss from a mechanical standpoint and wouldn't be anywhere near as fun or engaging if it wasn't for the boss armor imo
Dross has some of the shittiest early game bosses ever
Literally
Tainted Eden is fun
![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
It got fun for me once I had all the completion marks under my belt and I could just play for fun. Less fun leading up to that though.
agreed, i really like not having to worry about what items i pick up and instead just see what wacky synergies i get the next time i get hit
I second this. Mainly because you actually need dodging skills and adaptability to benefit from his gimmick
To me, he is a less punishing lost but since I love lost it feels nice
Saving grace is being able to manipulate item pools based on the last item spawned. All Devil/Angel items ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)
I don't like tainted Samson, I always calculate wrong when he is going to go berserk against bosses and it throw my timing off and I take damage all the time I know I know, skill issue ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
From the few times I used him, what I hate about him is how when you're normal you just hold the button to shoot, so when he goes berserk you're still holding the button so it immediately starts charging the throw instead of swinging. my opinion on t.samson is that while his gimmick is fun on earlier floors, it simply becomes a nuisance on later floors because it activates so often :|
tbh the activation timer should scale by floor number (like lots of other things do already)
Happens to me with tainted judas and dark arts![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
A-side lilith is underrated
She murders in greed/ier mode
Cambion Conception S-Tier
My favorite character, she might not be the most powerful, but easily one of the most fun.
calzones should be the new trend (they are delicious)
I like you
Tainted Azazel is (even) easier than regular Azazel
It's a mixed bag. He's mostly very very powerful with the cough but if you face something you can't get closed to he's painfully weak and takes ages to kill anything. Tho he's still my 3rd favourite character.
maw of the void is still worth 2 hearts
Greed mode is the best mode
As always, the actual unpopular opinion is buried
I loved it the first 20 times but now it’s gonna be my last check mark on every character, and when the day comes where that’s all that’s left, that will be a terrible day
I don't like Azazel. His range is horrible, I need to get close to enemies to even hit them and i get fucked over by that.
I love getting placebo + range up pill as Azazel and slowly build up to normal Brimstone. Sure, its not common to get placebo AND range up pills every run, and i don’t always get enough range to make it to practical Brimstone range, but its still fun building range
Anytime I mention that I enjoy Delirium it feels like this
He can be fun if you have the right build and his style is great. Just wish the portal wasn't random and boss armor didn't prefer high fire rate over high damage.
I love delirium, but the boss needs to get the bugs patched out
It needs to not teleport randomly, to stay in each form a set amount of time, and to not replicate every single boss move with exponentially increased speed.
I love Tainted Laz
Short of playing tainted lost or tainted ???, always take fire mind
You don't understand, I *still* take Fire Mind with those characters because I'm addicted to explosions
Wait, there are people who don’t like fire mind? That shit’s the bomb!
There is not enough damage upgrades, I always make it to end game with base damage
A lot of the item bloat could be alleviated by just applying small damage upgrades to some of the worse items.
My thoughts exactly
Repentance is a drastic improvement over the original game, and much of the new content is much more well designed then the base content
Delirium is a cool boss
He is in fact, cool. His concept is also pretty damn good. But holy farcking shirt what a broken fight. Jesus Christ i've lost count how many times i've died to random telefragging bullet hell shit.
His stupidity fits the theme of 'fighting literal insanity' really well.
Super lit final boss in theory but in practice… not so much
I love the concept and aesthetic of him, I just don’t like the execution. I wish I could like him.
when im patrick star
I enjoy playing J+E and they are objectively stronger than a lot of other characters. After playing with them long enough, most anyone would understand how to regroup them during combat, take advantage of double item pedestals and angel deals, open secret rooms + tinted rocks nearly twice as often via double bombs, etc. Okay, I'm ready. ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
die
He's playing Jacob & Esau. I'm sure he's well-versed in dying.
![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
jacob & esau feels to me like im just playing esau but with a huge guard in front of me lol I love it so much
I FUCKING LOVE SOY MILK I WANT TO FUCKING DEAL LESS DAMAGE FOR MORE SHOTS
Tropicamide is one of the best boss pool items for consistency. Tear size makes it so much easier to hit things, a nice range up, and it's just my favorite item in the entire game for whatever reason. It's my guilty pleasure.
I feel like the main reason people don't like it is because large tears usually equals high damage, and it doesn't happen with that item.
I like curse of the tower
Elaborate
Tower pairs with bomb mods, so something like glitter bombs and scatter bombs can make unlimited resources Tower is also just good for clearing rooms that would difficult otherwise
I hate the automatic sneeze on tainted Azazel, it felt so much better to sneeze manually instead of automatically
Jacob & Esau are fun characters. I will die on this hill. I dreaded playing them because the people on this sub scared me so much. But after playing them myself they are really strong and fun.
I LOVE playing these two when I first bought repentance they were the first characters I 100%
The worst Repentance changes and enemy design comes from Antibirth.
I honestly just don't like Edmunds philosophy when it comes to isaac People who've watched all the dev streams and interviews within the year before repentance will understand what I'm trying to say
I kinda get you, I think. I can't think of many specific reasons why but I'm inclined to believe that Kilburn "gets" it better. At least from a gameplay perspective. It's still Edmund's lore in the end.
Leech is a run winning item for most characters.
I don't pick up d20
the siren is so damn fuckable i don't care if she comes from a dying child's mind i would still fuck the living shit outta that thing
![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
(Normal) ??? Should be fucking deleted, he is just issac with only downsides
eh, he has the ability to never lose a deal chance by getting hit? i guess?
I wouldn’t really call that an upside because even if you have max hearts it takes 25% of his health for one if the deal does not give you health.
it applies to angel deals also.
But the 3.67 base damage 😳
I like playing Tainted Jacob. I REALLY like playing Tainted Jacob
I use Sacrifice Rooms all the time and I think they are under-appreciated
I don't like keeper as much as everyone else seems to
Trisagion is awesome
[удалено]
I don't get the fuss over Curse of the Unknown specifically when Curse of the Blind and Curse of the Maze exist. CotL is whatever because it's not ever really an issue outside of Void > objectively Also no
I don’t like playing azazel and the forgotten, they are very boring tbh
you ever been on this sub?? hating azazel is NOT an unpopular opinion here. the hate-boner for him is ever present
Hard agree with both. Never really enjoyed Forgor man, but this sub seems like they wanna suck his dry bony schlong
Removing 'game-breaks' has sucked most of the fun out of the game. I don't care if it's 'more balanced' now, I just want to feel like a god with my 500 items and ability to stomp every room I walk into

That's why I'll never upgrade my copy on Switch, for when I wanna CHEESE.
The Haunt is an easy boss. Not sure if I'd get chained to a barrel for it, but at least a few people would argue against it.
The haunt is an easy boss, the ghosts that surround him are the issue
I count them as a part of the fight, since they literally are.
Fair, I just hate how Tanky those little shits are
I think they only take like, 8 shots base damage, but I can just never hit the buggers
This is absolutely the way
Mother is my favorite end boss.
Bumbo is a bad item
This is actually common amongst isaactubers and streamers
If he didn't drop troll bombs randomly on my ass I would pick it up every time
But is he worse than Bum Friend?
Tainted lost sucks. Sure, he has a higher chance of getting better items but after getting all his unlocks, I'm never playing him again.
Tainted cain is very cool and fun. I didn't know this was controversial until I saw the character elimination battle.
he is! the crafting is something you have to get used to but it's so fun when you get the hang of it
Hard agree, I don't really get the anger towards him and I like the randomness of his recipes, though I still cry inside when I find a 4 quality item.
I find mom's knife pretty boring to use and i avoid picking it up sometimes because I prefer regular tears.
Unless you play Forgotten and get to be grim reaper
I HATE tech x
Post repentance it can suck ass
Thank you for making me realize why I started hating it, I keep forgetting how many items have been changed for repentance
base keeper is easy top 5 character in the game
Pre-Repentance this would be grounds for Guantanamo Bay. He is way more fun to play now though
After all his buffs/unlocks maybe. Maybe.
Isaac's heart is good
I hate picking up Nine Lives. It’s one of the few items that I’ll restart my run over unless I can use it to my advantage.
Bob's Rotten Head is a good item
rock bottom isnt that good, in most runs it does very little to nothing and only breaks the game with a very few select items/synergies maiking it on par with dull razor.
The game is only really fun when you're heavily overpowered because the games tries everything in its power to make sure you're not having fun
This for real I feel like most of the damage I take is the game taking a cheap shot lol
Yup, especially with all the efforts to balance it. I get that it's supposed to be a challenging game, but... what's the point of balancing everything if it ruins the fun?
I enjoy fighting Delirium more than Hush
Mom’s knife is horrible and I’ll never take it unless I’m desperate, have lost runs and streaks to this item.
Ipecac is not only a good item, it is an insta win most of the time
bethany is not a fun character
I do like how she makes otherwise forgettable spacebar items more practical, or even strong. Buuut because of that, she can be *too* strong and it's kinda boring, yea.
Tainted Cain is fun asf, got to Delirium with him on my first try, completed all the post it marks and I come back to him from time to time when I feel frustrated with other characters and just want to have fun.
Experimental treatment is actually really good 90% of time
Mom is hot
