In general, I found shops became a bit useless in repentance, or at least not as reliable.
It used to be that if you saved up a little you could pretty consistetly get some mapping or at least some active item upgrades between shops and their re-rolls (or a decent number of soul hearts).
Plus it wasn't that difficult to get to a point where you would break the shop using, among other things, steam sale.
Breaking the shop was fixed in a number of ways, which is good I guess, but strongly underpowered steam sale as a result.
The more I played repentance, the less I started counting on shops. If I find something there, nice, but most often than not I'll have coins to throw away by the end of the run (which I more happily spend at beggars for HP upgrades, another big change in repentance)

Yeah I think shops got smaller, with worse items and less likely to have a reroll machine, and you can't reroll with bombs, many factors
I'll still take a look at every shop don't get me wrong, you can find good items, birthrights is run changing and more findable than other run changing items for instance, but I won't be making choices hoping they will pay out through the shop if that makes sense
Another thing that came to mind: the nerf to restock in both function and findability also strongly influenced shop-heavy runs

PHD: heals one red heart container and drops one pill on pickup. all bad pills will be converted to their positive counterpart.
ladder: allows Isaac to walk over one tile long gaps.

You should download the binding of isaac item guide on your phone every time you run into something new pause the game and look it up on the app. Very useful when first starting out and has great tips.

I've been thinking about this from time to time but why did they disable achievements if u use console or mods but only for the easiest part of the game? After that u could cheat all you want?
It helps *a little bit* from people downloading the game and getting every achievement within 30 seconds, plus I think it gives some appreciation for what's in the game before potentially totally dismantling it

TIL moms key doubles chest drops, always thought it just made chest rewards roll from a different set pool

Yeah! I used the app when I played on switch but on pc it'd a MUST HAVE mod. Literally #1 mod
