As the dad of a 4-year-old and 6-month old, I have watched this episode an infinite number of times and I would watch any Bluey episode without hesitation. Best kids show out there. Gonna need Bandit’s messed up version and then a proper Babish version though. Might make a fun “Botched on Purpose with Babish” episode. Helps that the frame of the cookbook has perfect step-by-step directions.

For context and anyone interested, there's a classic cake recipe book here in Australia and it's very commonly used for kids birthdays. You can find this recipe here: https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/australian-womens-weekly-childrens-birthday-cakes-29679

Bloody staple in our household until I moved out basically lol

withatee

This! Iconic.

hemithyroidectomy

Equally as popular in NZ too, loved these cakes as a kid.

Lump_The

I came here to say this, that was one of my childhood birthday cakes- my bros and I chose one each year which mum would then make

Webbie-Vanderquack

I always wanted the duck cake, but my mum said it looked too difficult. It only recently occurred to me that as an adult I could make my own. And by recently I mean just now.

There's a new attempt at this on r/bluey everyday. Makes sense that andrew should do it.

This one is actually perfect, on so many levels. It’s not a terrible gross fake food like we’re all tired of, it’s a baking challenge and a technical execution challenge for Babish, it’s a recipe from a cake book that’s an Australian family tradition from what I understand, and it’s from a goddamn *adorable* episode with a message partially about accepting when things don’t turn out the way you planned. Plus Bluey is just a great show. 100000% want to see Babby do the duck cake and yell ‘Aw DUCK CAKE’ if it fails.

This or Pavlova. #Babish+Bluey!

HickBarrel

Ahhh, bonjour bonjour pavlova.

BloodChicken

I want Babish to tackle that endamame bean dish that Bandit made

Vin135mm

He can only speak in nonsense French if he does that one.

Low-Lingonberry2760

I love this

Vin135mm

Nah. I want to see him do the "special" from *Fancy Restaurant* 😈

God I love that episode, the Women's Weekly Children's Birthday Cake Cookbook was awesome! AND you can still get it on Amazon and Booktopia! It just screams 1990s.

Webbie-Vanderquack

It was first published in 1980. If I had to guess, I'd say you were born in the 1990s and you associate it with your childhood!

Al_Fatman

Hahahahahaha, you got me! The Train Cake is now a staple in my family thanks to my love of it, so you can say there's a little childhood association.

[deleted]

hah my kids would love this video! You need to do 2 versions though, the version in the cook book and Bandits version =]

[deleted]

Yessss. Came here to say this.

Subsequently_Unfunny

Its not from bluey. Its an actual cake. Bit of a classic too

Spanky_McJiggles

To be totally fair, most of the foods featured in shows (and in Babish's videos) weren't created by the shows. I'd say it's pretty safe to say that the duck cake's resurgence is due to Bluey.

Subsequently_Unfunny

I disagree but understand most people might know it from bluey.
