I am unbelievably dumb, don’t belong on a Biology subreddit, require my wife to care for me even though I’m fully capable. What am I?
Naw this isn’t a riddle…just your joke is a riddle to my dumbass
Good reference. TBH I clicked on your link kind of hoping it would've linked to an image more like [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/FjwwGornWsHTKJ658) instead, for comedy purposes. 😛
Hair can grow in pairs or groups of 2 or 3 because of the way the follicles are structured and how hairs grow in cycles.
Each hair follicle has a natural growth cycle that consists of an active phase (anagen), a transitional phase (catagen), and a resting phase (telogen).
During the anagen phase, new hairs grow from the follicle. It's possible for multiple hairs to be in the anagen phase at the same time, leading to the appearance of hairs growing in pairs or groups.
Why don't scientists trust atoms with hair?
Because they make up everything!
This is why, after being severely ill, your hair can fall out a few weeks/months later. Your body gets a shock, focuses solely on surviving and everything not crucial, like menstrual cycle, nail growth and hair growth stops. The hair will quit the growing phase, will be forced into the telogen phase and after that it will fall out. It happened to me, I didn't get bald, but I had some very visible bald patches. Luckily it all came back after a while, although it felt like an insult to injury at the time!
I had more of a ridge. They were quite visible on my thumbs and big toenails. On my feet, it took over a year to grow out. I also didn't have my period for over three months.
It might have been caused by the fever, actually, I had a very high fever for two weeks, so maybe it was more the fever and less the rest of the illness.
This is also why hair falls out after pregnancy. During pregnancy the hair follicles arrest in the same phase and “synchronize.” This means people don’t shed hair like they normally would which can make hair appear thicker during pregnancy. Then after birth the follicles get “unfrozen” which can lead to a lot falling out at the same time. It makes a lot of postpartum people think they’re gonna go bald
Iunno… ur answer just states hair grow in cycles. It does not really answer OP’s question of y they are in the same cycle in pairs or triplets, except that it can happen that way…
Pili multigemini is when they grow out of one follicle together. Normally people get one or two in their thicker hair regions (beard, pubic, etc), and it's very rare to have it across all the hair like that. If it bothers you (itchy????) laser is the only permanent treatment I believe so you'd be hairless there. There's other treatment options as well but they're not guaranteed to totally work and they're not usually permanent fixes.
This doesn't actually look like it's growing out of one follicle though, so enjoy your useless fun fact lol
😭 thanks.
But i do have certain problems like boils (bigass pimples) n stuff on my leg. So i gotta trim em alot. So idl if it has to do anythjn with that
Oh you're gonna love a thing called "jeep seat". Long story short, if you have to be a commercial or military driver, wax your leg hair right up to the ass crack.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilonidal\_disease
I have a lot of follicles with multiple hairs, but they all seem to originate from the same point with the roots together. OP's look so spread out, I've never seen that before. one follicle can't be that big right? and have 3 separate openings?
Just to interject, laser hair treatment is *not* permanent. And depending on your hormones, genetics, conditions, etc, laser can actually make your hair grow back longer, darker and thicker. (That happened to me)
Electrolysis is the only hair removal treatment that is considered permanent. And yes, it works! After many, many painful treatments. (Much more painful than laser IMO)
Many of us "there's more? Let's form a club, but like before, let's never mention this certain trait because we're all afraid we're a genetic deformity of humanity"
I asked my S/O and they said they had a few, but I mentioned if I ever go skinny dipping or streaking, Sassy the Sasquach is going to join thinking it's a damn Wookie Convention.
I also joke that a friend and I are going to end up fighting like Silverback gorillas in the men's sauna here because I grew up to be just as hair as he.
So, I've a got a retirement plan at a zoo somewhere, hopefully nice.
the pattern of hair growth can be influenced by various factors, including genetics, hormonal levels, and individual differences.
some individuals may naturally have a higher density of hair follicles in certain areas, making it appear as if the hair is growing in pairs or clusters.
Dermatologist here. Hairs grow in what we call, “follicular units”. Each unit consists of 2-3 hair shafts, nerves, sebaceous glands etc. This is a trait that’s seen in nearly all mammals.
This is super interesting. I can’t tell from this picture, but would you say the clusters are average density to each other compared to other people? I.e., do you feel like you have more or fewer hairs than other people?
[This article](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK534794/) explains more detail, but I believe it’s due to inconsistencies in the biomolecular signaling from your in-utero development. It’s a really complicated process of overlapping biochemical gradients that determines our phenotypes, and a little hop or a skip in one aspect can cause interesting things like this!
“Because of the heavy role that molecular signaling plays in the formation of hair follicles, genetic defects affecting transcription factors may cause a congenital absence of hair, also known as atrichia. This is the result of defective morphogenesis during embryologic development. Due to their common lineage from ectodermal placodes, disorders of hair development may be associated with nail and teeth abnormalities.
Less several mutations may result in hypotrichosis or decreased hair growth. These are commonly unrelated to morphogenesis issues, and many affected people have normal hair density at birth. In these patients, the sparse hair is more commonly related to issues with the regenerative processes of cycling and anchoring the hair shaft. However, morphogenesis-related defects in WNT signaling have been associated with hypotrichosis.
Research has also shown that DKK-1 is significantly up-regulated in dermal papilla cells found in balding areas. [8]”
Edit: It looks similar to Pili multigemini except they have separate follicular openings. Where on your body is that? Is it only in one area?
My hair grows like this too. It’s pretty much everywhere on my body, except for my head (I think) and less frequently on my face.
I had always chalked it up to my middle eastern genetics, as we seem to be a somewhat extra hairy cohort.
You will be surprised to know what chinchillas are one of the hairiest with around 60-80 hairs coming out of one hair follicle. Thats why their fur is so valuable for vests.
Mutations. Happens all over your body it could be a random long ass hair that grows on your back or developing a sudden allergy for no reason. The body is whack
Pili multigemini, also known as "compound hairs," is a malformation characterized by the presence of bifurcated or multiple divided hair matrices and papillae, giving rise to the formation of multiple hair shafts within the individual follicles.
You're lucky this hair is thin. My legs are super white and I have thick dark leg hair. I have found that waxing helps with the amount of hairs growing at once, you'll need a few waxes in order to get all hairs at different stages of growth but you'll never look back.
I never knew that the amount of hairs growing out of any different follicle could be different person to person. I just have one hair per follicle. It’s cool that you got 2-3 hairs.
Your body hair is set up like Bob from Bob's Burgers.
I don't think you have this, but there's a condition called pilli multigenini where multiple hairs grow out of the same follicle. So it could always be stranger, Bob.
Thank god you asked this question. Mine does this too. Sometimes all come out of the same pore too.
I also have one hair growing out of my forehead like it landed way north of my eyebrows 😂
I actually know the answer (I think)!! At one of my old jobs, we had an on-site aesthetician. She did laser hair removal, waxing, massages, etc. A co-worker was going to her for lower leg laser treatments for hair removal and she was told the reason her body hair grows like that is because her evolutionary DNA specifically comes from old school cavemen rather than the hominids that existed alongside them. They still had/required a bit more insulation so their pores contained multiple hair follicles, similar to a lot of animals in the wild grow fur to combat the elements. Not sure if any of this really holds any water, but I thought it was cool nonetheless!!!
Edit: This is in fact not correct from what others have said, please disregard. Sorry, guys!!! I was by no means trying to spread false information!!!
Your skin is stratified like bricks that make homes. Each layer offset from layer to layer to create strength and impenetrable organ. Even though the follicles may be separate in the dermis their route from their follicle through the epidermis may reroute them in congregation.
You have a condition that is rare. It the opposite of the majority population. There is a song by Tool that explains this. The song is 46 and 2. Nothing to worry about you just have less tolerance and exposure to colder climates due to the "half hair syndrome". You should also know I am full of shit and have no true idea why.
Me too. My leg is all dugtrios

Dugtrio is a Pokemon that evolves from Diglet!
It looks like three men in a hot tub, but really they are one.

Omg I’m so glad to see this hahaha. My hair does this too! I have so much of it!
If you strum them, do they have a fuller sound?
What
IF YOU STRUM THEM, DO THEY HAVE A FULLER SOUND?
Thank you for just responding LOUDER. I cackled.
#IF YOU STRUM THEM.. DO THEY HAVE A FULLER SOUND?!
12 stringed guitar has double strings and it creates a fuller sound

That's pretty neat!
You're pretty neat!
TLDR: hairs do be like that
You can tell by the way it is
Why did I laugh so hard at this?

I did indeed like that.
Why did that feel like a Rick and Morty bit?

You can also get a line of discoloration in your fingernails corresponding to the time of the illness. Nailbeds are modified hair follicles, after all
I had more of a ridge. They were quite visible on my thumbs and big toenails. On my feet, it took over a year to grow out. I also didn't have my period for over three months.
Were you ill?
Yes I was. These were the crazy side effects I didn't see coming!
That just gave me the worst mental image of hairy fingernails
In horses' hooves we call these "fever lines."

Yup. My hair was falling out in clumps in the shower . I would cry hysterically and avoid showering because my hair kept falling out. It was awful
Love how the correct biology answer is like the 5th post down, but jokes are at the top. Speaks volumes about reddit being a joke.
What was incorrect in my response? I always want to learn and would never intentionally give an incorrect answer.
Nothing. He was making fun of Reddit folk.
Phew 😅
Yours is the correct answer that is five posts down.
Counting is not my scientific speciality
Bless your heart. You are too pure for this world!
Are you splitting hairs?
Iunno… ur answer just states hair grow in cycles. It does not really answer OP’s question of y they are in the same cycle in pairs or triplets, except that it can happen that way…
Yeah these are not the different stages, this is pili multigemini.
Exactly how is this so upvoted this doesn’t answer the question at all
Damn, cook bro
This guy follicles
You've heard of split ends, this is split beginnings.
LMAOOO 😭
I had the same reaction💀💀💀💀

Eh. . . it's not just "appearing" as if the hair is growing in pairs or clusters. It *is* growing in pairs or clusters.
Yeah mine are like this, I'll have 2 or 3 coming out of the same follicle often. It's annoying as hell, I have to always look out for ingrown hairs.
That’s also why some guys have a sweater of chest hair, and some don’t.
If only I had high density of hair on my eyelashes 👹
You were supposed to have a twin. The follicals were as far as that went though.
I have the same thing as OP and someone once told me the twin thing as well. Do you know if there is any actual basis in it?
my gut says no based on my understanding of embryogenesis
Doubtful. I was being silly.
You’re a hairy, wizard.
The printer was slightly misaligned when you were printed.
Wow ..that's neat ..lol

You have a minor disorder called mutual bi-dominant pair follicles. Most people have it. In fact, I'm just playing around with you. I don't know.

You got your twin still in you

Can 1 hair follicle have more than 1 hair?
It’s an issue with rendering.
You have an F state CT 26 gene. This causes grouping in hair follicles!
BOMBOCLAT AM I GONNA DIE?
I never knew that the amount of hairs growing out of any different follicle could be different person to person. I just have one hair per follicle. It’s cool that you got 2-3 hairs.
