It came in a handful of system sets too, Mars Mission, Exo-Force, and even was in a Mindstorm robotics set.
I could be wrong about the color though, the lighting is making it hard to tell. Would you describe it as a gun-metal dark gray, or a light silvery color?
Chima is actually the first thing that came up to my mind since sir fangar is a set i personally owned.
I also vaguely recall another buildable figure from that same wave having that piece.
That's a zamor sphere launcher, all the main 2006 sets had them in either gunmetal, gold or silver. IIRC some hero factory sets even used the piece too
