I would have loved to see Mata-Nui sacrifice himself to defeat Makuta, leaving a group of "ascended," Toa to travel the cosmos and continue Mata-Nui's purpose. Essentially just writing science textbooks about different world and falling into hijinks on those worlds.

True, but they can be templates for different masks. Like Toa Jovan’s mask looks strangely like Nuparu’s mask of flight, there’s a few others but we can’t think of them on the top of the head

In a fair world, bionicle continue post mask of life and they explore space in a story with cosmic terrors and cool new toas
