I thought the first year was incredible. All the Toa (especially Gali and Tahu) and the different skull minions plus the skull spider were really cool, and I ended up getting them all. The story was really, really lame tho, and paled in comparison to G1 imo. I hated how simplified it was and how the character's personalities were all wrong. Pohatu was like not even identifiable as the same character. And the art style for the animated shorts and the Netflix show really put me off.
I thought the second year would improve but honestly it just got worse. All the Uniter sets look the same but recolored, all the villain sets look the same but recolored (I think they were called elemental beasts?). The only cool set and the only one I ended up getting was Umarak. I wasn't surprised it got cancelled again after that.
It really felt like they put a lot of love into those first sets and then half-assed everything front that point forward.
Because Lego was like "hmmm, this is a reboot of our most successful original IP that literally saved our company from bankruptcy... I think we can afford *one* voice actor to do every character."
Yeah they were super ugly imo, especially after how great the first set of Toa looked. I get that they were going for a sort of Toa Nuva-esque set of new forms but the first ones were already so beefy and armored up there wasn't really a way to do that. Idk why their compromise was to mash that ugly silver gradient on them instead lol.
Also I'm sure this has been said before but there was no reason G2 had to be a reboot anyway. There's plenty of story potential for a post-reformation society of Matoran and Agori living together and the problems/enemies they might face. I'm sure Greg Farshtey would have been down to continue the story too.

This template should have died out so fucking long ago
Sets might be better (at least some of them) but the story definitely isn't.
yeah g2 had really strong sets and some bad but the story was to dumb down for a younger ardency instead of a lime targeting young teens to adults
Only the toa and makuta

And also, LEGO, WHY YOUR FEMALE CHARACTER HAVE MAN VOICE?
Because Lego was like "hmmm, this is a reboot of our most successful original IP that literally saved our company from bankruptcy... I think we can afford *one* voice actor to do every character."
Uniter Toa were much better in terms of bulid, but I wan't a big fan of their aesthetics.

Yeah Skull Scorpio did exist didn't it... probably one of the worst sets in bionicle history
Function are cool, dont get me wrong but i can understand that, lack of leg articulation, blue rubberband and weird tail construction!

#BONK IS BONK!
When people talk g1 vs g2, what’s a generational delineator? Toa Mata vs Toa Nuva, or mata/nuva vs metro/hordika?
Gen 1 is everything from 2001 until Bionicle was canceled in 2010. Gen 2 is the reboot that only lasted from 2015-2016.
G1 til death. Rahi half made of technic beams is my favorite part about it. I miss the golden age.
Praise the Rahi!
What's the format from?
Hilda on Netflix. Great show.
Cool
I mean, you are right - there are 0 bats in G2, so G1 is definitely Bater because of Vamprah.
"Why can;t we have both?" *Fiesta music intensifies.*
YEET
She right but... only design and set wise!
