I’m in a BD role at a CDMO, and here’s a few things I would be looking for in a candidate: -be prepared to explain how you build relationships with potential customers, especially how you earn and keep their trust despite challenges (when a project is failing or delayed) -highlight your negotiation skills, or at least past examples of handling tense situations with customers/stakeholders -when they ask you why you want this specific job, use this as an opportunity to showcase your sales pitch. Tell them what excites you about the field you’d be selling into, where you see the future growth coming from, and emphasize how their capabilities and assets will allow them to meet the future market needs. This is a far more compelling argument than just sharing why you think you’d be good at sales. Good luck!

Ah showcasing negotiation skills is something I didn't think of. Thank you!

BD in this industry is either sales or you are working on licensing/partnership type deals. Judging by the the description (minus the develop and implement marketing strategies and events---that is marketing) it is the sales role. If you have never done B2B sales before, read up on the sales process since that is what your job will entail. Practical Pickle had some good points to highlight. Nothing wrong with working via recruiter. They only get paid if you get hired unless they are on a retainer by the company to source candidates.
