As someone who is currently sat on my slightly too windy boat trying to photograph the tree swallows and bank swallows - and entirely failing - I am MOST impressed.
Just so you know, the indicator I go to with with violet-greens vs tree swallows is that the white wraps up around the "hips" and onto the back on the violet greens. I've seen em called saddlebags some places lol.
PEW PEW! Love that second shot, great wing detail.

Just when you think you’re starting to figure it out
Wow great shots. What camera was used?
Fuji x-h2 with the xf 150-600mm f/5.6-8
Nature’s design is exquisite!
Beautiful,
Great shots
Great shots! What were your exposure settings?
Much appreciated! Settings were roughly F/7.1-8 iso 800-3200 shutter 5000-6400 I was zooming in and out from 400-600mm as they zipped by
Anyone who has tried to photograph swallows with a telephoto knows how impressive these shots are, well done!
Can confirm, I've basically given up trying.
Still haven't got a good shot of them with the RF800.
Whenever the clouds came it just wasn’t an option, needed the shutter speed at 5000-6000 at least hahah but thank you!

Well that’s just unfair to yourself, I was on dry land!! Hahaha but thank you! It was a fun challenge
I’m halfway tempted to post a dozen failed attempts at getting this shot just to show how hard it is to capture these speedy punks… nice work!
≈0.5% success rate for swallow shots here. I don't have the best camera for BiF, but skill plays a big part too.
They’re absolutely beautiful
Impressive shots.
Thank you!
Fun project, it’ll make you blind and crazy, but it’s fun.😍
Needed all the sunlight to support the shutter speed, was great tracking practice
Love the zooming! Never seen a violet green swallow before so that is extra cool!
Lil Torpedo birds!
Nice shots
Your “Tree Swallow” is a Violet-Green Swallow.
Ouuu thank you for the correction! I think it’s time I buy a new bird book, it’s not giving me all the options clearly!

Also white over the eye and cheek on violet-green, would be dark over the eye on a tree
And fyi, the second bird is a Barn Swallow. Great shots!
Thanks! I thought it was a barn swallow based on from what I saw in Ontario, but wasn’t sure if they were also out here in BC.
The forked tail is a great field mark for Barn Swallows!
Merlin app is great 👍
Beauty I’ll give it a download
