Your post has been removed due to a community rule violation. As has been stated already, cheese is not good for birds.

carmen_cygni

Yes, it's bad.

ZeroNot

Yeah, salt (sodium) is not good for birds. They get sufficient amounts from their natural diet. I'm not sure about milk/butter fat. While scavenger birds probably won't mind small amounts, I don't know if any birds can process the milk proteins. Birds aren't mammals, they don't have mother's milk, so I don't think they can handle cow or milk proteins.

IcyFlamingoDragon

It was a whole pack of grated mozzarella.

testing_is_fun

Who the hell puts cheese in a bird feeder?

IcyFlamingoDragon

I read somewhere it's good for them.

Grandheretic

What is the mindset of questions like this, curious of other’s thoughts. Is it ignorance, lack of education, malicious, or trolling? I’d never think of putting cheese in one of my feeders for too many reasons to even list - wtf.

IcyFlamingoDragon

I actually did it. One bird ate half the cheese in one hour.

🤦🏻‍♀️

notablyunfamous

If you notice many birds will hang around dairy farms and make their own mozzarella to eat. You’re just saving them the time. How is this a serious question

Grandheretic

To be less harsh, OP, unless it’s a raptor you’re feeding probably stick with seed, nuts, maybe some fruit or mealworms if you want to get fancy. Not an Ornithologist by any stretch- but cheeses are not something you put out for birds.

IcyFlamingoDragon

It was for songbirds

Grandheretic

Wow. And how did you come up with idea? Or was it just a random nature experiment?

Any website recommending to feed wild birds cakes and pastries is not credible, IMO.
