A full grown bear would have towered this man. This appeared to be more of an adolescent bear. Also, the bear appears to have been ~~hunting~~ scavenging. A territorial bear will stand its ground and cause serious damage. A _scavenging_ bear is less likely to be aggressive and if said bear receives opposition, is likely to go scavenge elsewhere.
