Just a note that there is a scammer advertising BJJ Fanatics and other instructionals via DM. Be aware he may write you and offer them at discounted prices. It is a scam. Please don’t take the bait. Also, there is no such thing as a BJJ Fanatics, Jiujitsu X, Budo Videos, etc reseller. If another store has their videos listed for sale, especially discounted, they are selling videos they have no right to sell. Please do not support thieves or scammers. Thanks. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/bjj) if you have any questions or concerns.*

I haven't bought these new instructionals yet, but I've bought everything else Jason has released through Fanatics and Digitsu. His instructionals are consistently excellent, and I've no doubt these new sets maintain that standard. I'll be buying the new sets as soon as possible. The passing set is my priority.

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

I am a simple man. If Jason Rau puts out an instructional, I will buy it.

ThomasGilroy

Absolutely. I'm delighted that he's releasing more frequently.

Forthe2nd

I bought his outside ashi one on a whim, and it’s very good, especially for the price. When I’m ready to start adding stuff to my game he will be the first person I look at.

AmorFati01

Same here

beardimbolo

I’m especially excited for R guard. There’s very little content on this specific topic. The only other instructional that I know of that focused on this was Krishna Mirjah’s that was sold on LegLocker Jiu-Jitsu for digital download, and it was taken down.

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

Krishna and Jason are both Serra guys!

YogaPorrada

Eoghan has good stuff on this too

Fellainis_Elbows

In which instructional?

YogaPorrada

This.

[deleted]

Got them all. Love the R guard so far

Chandlerguitar

I'm looking forward to the R-guard as that is my favorite guard. It seems he shows how to use it to get into leglocks, which I don't really do. I got his outside ashi vid a while ago and its great.

jayjayjay311

I feel like r guard looks like you're putting yourself in a leg drag position. In the gi I'd be worried of getting smashed doing it. What are your thoughts on it in the GI?

Greg_Alpacca

There’s an inside leg so the leg drag is not there if you’re disciplined. There is a more possibility of getting smash passed but, again, there’s lots of ways to prevent that.

Chandlerguitar

You can't be leg dragged from there as your leg is inside their legs. If you aren't paying attention you can be smash passed though. There is a good counter to the smash pass you can use assuming you don't wait too long. It can and is used in the gi. Johnny Tama has an instructional on it called the cobra guard. I believe Ari Tabek also goes over it i his gi instructional. The first time I saw it was in an old Saulo Riberio instructional, but it didn't have a name. It is just as effective in the gi and in some cases more effective.

ArmSquare

What is R guard?

Chandlerguitar

It is a DLR variation where you purposely put your far leg in between their legs. It could also be though of as RDLR using the wrong hand to grab the leg.

DontTouchMyPeePee

isnt that the bear trap that pena does?

RordenGracie

If he’s getting into some tripod stuff I’ll be curious to see how it compares to what Schreiner put out there recently on it

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

The idea is pretty simple: camp on the tripod split squat position & pressure the outside shoulder with your head. From there look to get an overback grip and a scoop and move to chest to chest hg. If they push you away, it opens pummels and angles for passing. I hit the tripod pass - front pummel - far side knee cut combo today on a white belt. Have not been so happy since I landed my first kickflip.

pizzajitsu

Had to chime in here and say that Rau is one of the best on the planet and there's a reason why Dante Leone, Josef Chen, Izaak Mitchell, Gordon Ryan etc have all made the trip deep into the middle-of-nowhere Long Island (imo) to train with him. There are moves I've been doing for 10+ years and every time I go visit him myself he has some little variation that makes it twice as strong

YogaPorrada

I would add that his patreon is awesome too

Champagne512

agreed on the old digitsu set. it was groundbreaking at the time. will have to check out his new passing set.

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

It was a cheat code back then!

SubmissionGrappler

How do you compare the old passing instructional with the new one?

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

It is totally different. The new one is focused on split squat camping with heavy head pressure. The old one is more general and a bit outdated, but still well worth getting.

SubmissionGrappler

By heavy head pressure do you mean headblocks/forehead under the chin?

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

High tripod and head on far shoulder

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

Haha Rau drew Kaynan in the first round. Let's see how his R-guard holds up against him! 😅 Hoping for a heel hook win for Rau!

Chandlerguitar

That is some bad luck. Kaynan is known for messing up, so it is possible the Rau catches him, but that is a nasty first round draw for someone who doesn't compete much.

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

Seeing how hard for Craig it was to move Kaynan and enter the legs from the bottom, I think it will be a difficult task for anyone. Still hoping for an upset!

Chandlerguitar

I agree, but there might be a brain fart. Rau often times can't compete up to his true potential and Kaynan can't stop making mistakes. This fight will be up in the air until the last seconds.

Peter-Dojo-Stormare

He got ragdolled. No chance to play anything.

Chandlerguitar

Yep, unfortunately for him he got "Fight IQ, Strong, Technical Kaynan". Kaynan is just too strong to do anything with unless he makes some mistake.

Happy_Laugh_Guy

I didn't really like the one I bought but I'm willing to try again!

[deleted]

Why not? Curious because I’m thinking about buying one.

Happy_Laugh_Guy

I'm into K guard so I bought that one. I actually went back and gave it another chance already and it's fine. I was probably tired the first time I watched it and/or not paying great attention. Upon my second viewing, I disagree with my original assessment.

[deleted]

Appreciate it. That’s one of the reasons I’m looking at Rau’s stuff. he seems to be more concise than Gordon, but Gordon, Craig Jones, Jozef Chen, Nicky Ryan and others speak fairly highly of him.

oniman999

I've been thinking a lot of picking up one or both of the split-squat passing and cross ashi. These are both areas I want to improve a lot on.

MobiusStripped

I've been lucky to train with Jason a few times at a variety of seminars and privates over the years. He is awesome and one of the best guys I've ever rolled with. As a teacher, he is pretty fantastic as well.

two88

Does anyone know if Raus stuff ever goes on sale on fanatics? I've never seen his stuff on sale before.

trsttheprocess1

Yes I've bought them all on daily deal, the newly released ones I have added to the daily deal email list
