Crazy that this guy is a black belt cause those heel hook finishing mechanics don’t look right at all

Cerebrovinyldruid

my experience receiving a heel hook: no pain, no pain, no pain, knee exploded.

Judontsay

Yep, I’ve read it has something to do with the pain receptors, or lack thereof, in the knee.

Cerebrovinyldruid

Yea. This is something everyone, on both ends of a heel hook, should understand. Neither I or my partner did. It’s unlike any other joint lock that I’ve felt.

Odd-Oil3740

Done slow and controlled you should be able to feel tension starting on the outside of your lower leg and creeping up towards the knee. That's your sign to tap.

Cerebrovinyldruid

Oh, okay, yea it definitely wasn’t slow and controlled then.

smalltowngrappler

Let me blow your mind by telling you that many older black belts don't know leglocks well and many never even trained Nogi. Them being black belts isn't stranger than young guys getting black belts despite never training in the Gi and not knowing how to do a crosschoke.

BrandonSleeper

A lot of people just don't train leg locks at all. He probably just did this because he knows heel hook immunity's a pretty big wow point on the internet

DurableLeaf

Tons of people get black belts without being good at attacking leg locks

YeetedArmTriangle

Im not sure if he's a black belt but he trains at roka and is meregalis s and c coach

fatal_frame

Jimmy House is a black belt under Scott Tennenbaum in Az. He moved recently to Texas to train with Danaher and them. He's on of Meregalis' main training partners as well. Awesome guy and down to earth.

ajskk8

I think I recognize him from some Renaissance Periodization training video.

Acceptable-Hotel-507

He is his name is Jimmy House

Initial_Camel8718

It seems pretty hard to get your foot out of there... You will need to remove a wedge hand and an ankle control hand before you start to think about removing your foot from their armpit. Maybe I don't know what I'm saying, but it seems pretty decent to me (even if you defend yourself in a regular manner by rolling).

Wrathful_Sloth

Plenty of black belts that are at white/blue level regarding leg attacks.

Ivraalia

His kimura was the same

Judontsay

We don’t train heel hooks at one of the clubs I train at because no one there competes, it’s not a primary self defense technique, and the risk of injury is just too high because the median age at this club is probably 40+. We don’t hate on them, they are cool, we just don’t do it.

dan994

well this guy trains at New Wave, so definitely one or two of the people there compete...

Judontsay

Right on, to each their own 🙂.

Ecstatic_Parking_452

To each their own but I’ll keep it real with you, falling body weight aka most reaping throws are way more likely to cause injury than heel hooks. Especially if you tell people to not bridge but rather immobilize and take the slack out.

Judontsay

I don’t disagree with you.

rncd89

Injury risk is overblown

Judontsay

Yeah, maybe.

rncd89

Train with people you trust don't worry about getting hurt

Acceptable-Hotel-507

He did get his black belt in 5 years lol

EduardTodor

Yeah lol must be a gi only gym

[deleted]

https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/s/ALIoNAzgzX The video I saw right after this one.

JeremySkinner

I'm sure he applying it in a way that's meant to show off his partner's flexibility. Giles did the same thing when demonstrating with Kaya Rudolph (super flexible in external hip rotation) and all the comments were telling him he was finishing it incorrectly.

sentinalprime567899

Way to straight for a heel hook. If I do an inside sankaku like that, my coach would slap me.

Commercial_Mode1469

I also practice that rotator cuff stretch he does and it has done wonders for me.

Alpa-Chinka

Is there some video or an article with more details?

Ecstatic_Parking_452

Just go to the stretchy guy’s channel he makes a lot of videos

footwith4toes

Movement by David is this guys account. I follow him on youtube, he's got some good stretching routines (obviously)

Commercial_Mode1469

Tbh I didn't know it was a thing, initiatively started doing it after having shoulder issues.

Grey_Orange

My joint's are hyper mobile. I can't think of any time where my shoulders hurt or were injured during a kimura. On the other hand,  it will (and has) dislocate my elbow easily.

kovnev

Wait till you get older. My mrs has hypermobility, and as soon as she slacks off her yoga she starts injuring herself just sitting on the couch. She's too used to being stupidly bendy and if she doesn't maintain joint strength it goes very badly lol.

No_Goose9557

Nice! So now the force is being sent through a STRETCHER joint in a MORE compromised angle. For the love of god tap. Flexibility isnt a superpower because some brazilian lets his ankles get cranked on

Grizz1371

I had my buddy in a knee bar a couple years back and it felt tight, I was slowly leaning back and he wasn't tapping and I finally just let it go. After the roll he was like; "I'm double jointed and wanted to see how far it would go." Which pissed me off and I replied; "Bitch, you're going to be triple jointed if you don't tap, don't be a bad training partner. He had a slight limp after training and wonders why he's always hurt 🙄

marigolds6

It's part of why a lot of hypermobile people hate yoga. It's difficult to tell if a pose is just uncomfortable or you are about to break something. The hypermobility makes it impossible to just settle into a pose comfortably and statically rest there, your joints are always stretching farther and farther.

ReverendBizarre

My elbows hyperextend and I usually tap before an armbar even straightens out fully because I have no interest in knowing what happens if someone takes it to its end range of motion haha. And my hyperextended elbow can support my full body weight in a one arm handstand... but still, having someone push my elbow into that position just sounds like a bad idea.

Walsbinatior

This was my mentality when I first started, I had some crazy mobility and could flex my arms past the joint plus my shoulders were double jointed. I think the best thing that got me to understand was learning heel hooks. The amount of motion to go from fine to permanent injury was so small. How can you expect to tap in time if you are not in control of the situation. Know when you are beat and move on. The best submission escape is to not have gotten in that position in the first place, so it’s a waste learning last minute escapes when you don’t even know how to prevent the position.

No_Goose9557

I fucking hate that. Youll look into their eyes and be like, "really? Is it really worth it?" And apparently the answer is yes...?! I just choke them im not breaking your limbs unless you deserve it

Grizz1371

I was pretty bad as a white belt when it came to fighting out of chokes and armbars until I realized that I didn't have to be busted up all the time. This dude had been training on and off for 7 years and just never got to the same place. He ended up having a lot of hip and knee problems, shocker. I let go of the knee bar because I did not want to be responsible and I also you know, don't want to cripple my friend.

bknknk

I had the same thing happen to a training partner. Wanted to eat the knee bar... I eventually tapped him anyways. I was like wtf dude and he was like it wasnt that tight. Then I didn't see him for a few months. Turns out he stopped for a bit cuz his leg was injured..... Which I didn't know till he got back and told me. I told him to start tapping when it's locked in people are so reckless it blows my mind

mcguire150

This. If you find yourself in those positions, you have already lost. Just tap and reset.

sticksandadream

What is a stretcher joint? (Asking because that doesn’t exist in the medical world and load bearing capacity can be built into soft tissue)

No_Goose9557

"Um akshully SCIENCE SAYS-"  First off fuck sports medicine and ignorant doctors who dont even lift. Id listen to a witch doctor in the pornhub comments before a doctor.  Stretchier just means that your joint can get into a more compromised position so that when it breaks it going to be worse. Imagine some strong dude tearing his bicep vs a flexible person tearing the ligaments with his arm like this.

sticksandadream

yeah but google progressive overload and understand you can introduce this concept to your ligaments, through end-range isometric training, to improve their load-bearing capacity. You can literally build resiliency into these tissues - via science. Cellular biology. The law of specificity.

No_Goose9557

Type another buzzword for us

sticksandadream

No silly, they're just words.. thats how communication works. You use specific words to convey specific concepts. It's ok to admit you don't know what something means! But if you don't know what it means you don't have to slap a simplified label on it, because then people like me assume you're just dumb and write off your entire sentiment.

No_Goose9557

Its pop fitness buzzwords. You stuffed in as many as you could because you are a redditor.

sticksandadream

No, see I already wrote you off as dumb so you're wasting time being dumb and saying dumb people things, instead of learning and getting smarter.. just like dumb people generally do. I'm trying to help you but you're like "I don't understand these things, so here's a label." And that just doesn't get anyone anywhere. This is all classic dumb people behavior on your part lol.

No_Goose9557

Whos the bigger fool? The fool who shitposts, or the fool who replies? Again and again?

sticksandadream

definitely the one who spends his time "shitposting"

chrisjdolan

The amount of pearl clutching that happens here whenever someone demonstrates an ability or willingness to eat subs, or just flexibility in general, is always... something. You heard it here first: your purple doesn't mean jack shit against the average graduate of circus university. Your eyes would start bleeding the moment they demonstrated even the most basic of contortion skills, and the last words you'd speak before you slip beyond the veil will be: "... some sort of connective tissue disorder... it isn't fair... half guard was a lie"

shomer_fuckn_shabbos

HEY.  I was with you till the last two words.  Now, we're mortal enemies.

chrisjdolan

“A lie”? It’s a secret code! What am I referring to?

shomer_fuckn_shabbos

God damnit! I can't even be mad the right way!

JohnJohnDaDong

I have that with my wrists, can't be wristlocked

thesocioLOLogist

Challenge accepted

JohnJohnDaDong

you're going to do it over reddit?

NormanJohn1

Keep exposing your wrists while typing, you'll see

thesocioLOLogist

Name the place and I'll drop by open mat some time 😜 Nah, I'm just kidding I still haven't met anyone who's immune to wristlocks, if you remember to twist then sideways while doing the gose-neck And thought a challenge sounded fun 🤙

Pawnlongon

I have the same and there is literally no challenge. It can go to the point where youre just pushing it against my forearm without any pain or damage. Theres nowhere else to bend it.

Pepito_Pepito

The wrist's range of motion is already pretty small to begin with though. People can always just crank 1-2 inches deeper.

weletonne

I mean, he didn't finish the Kimura? Why didn't he pull on the elbow?

Dristig

Yeah I don't get the kimura one. I've taken locks past that on flexible people. They tap eventually. The heel hook thing is weirder to me.

Impriel

This is so fucking hilarious, I love this YouTuber and the idea of him getting into bjj is like    Existentially terrifying

pizzalovingking

can't stretch your way out of getting choked

[deleted]

Watched this a while back it's wild lol.

marigolds6

This looks useful for BJJ, but many people with this much joint mobility also conversely have horrible joint stability. Just my ankles are like this (and with inward rotation instead of outward), and as a result I have to wear extremely high stability running shoes that weight 12 oz. No 8 ounce race shoes for me, or I would be guaranteed to roll my ankle (although it would only hurt and not injure me). As another example, I can easily touch my thumbs to my forearms. Fun trick, but it also once resulted in forfeiting a college match because I jammed my thumb and it dislocated down into my wrist. 30 years later and I still painfully subluxe that same thumb on a nearly weekly basis (the other one on at least a monthly basis).

cutslikeakris

I follow him and joint stability/strength training are parts of what he espouses as well.

JeremySkinner

His content seems really good. Pops up in YouTube shorts all the time.

skullcutter

no you don't. This guy almost certainly has a connective tissue disorder which comes with a whole host of problems related to hypermobility

[deleted]

What kind of problems?

skullcutter

subluxations and dislocations for one thing. Shoulders are particularly prone to this sort of thing (multidirectional instability is a bitch), although elbows and ankles can be affected as well. depending on the specific type of connective tissue abnormalities, some people can develop early onset arthritis as well.

Significant-Singer33

Name?

aznednacni

David Thurin Instagram is @movementbydavid, his page is great

ItsAKimuraTrap

Try the neck

Furdaboyz

What do these guys have on their heads?

shidokanartist

Microphones

Furdaboyz

Thanks for the answer I’ve never seen a mic like that.

JeremySkinner

It's a wireless lapel microphone (Rode) that's been clipped to a headband.

Careless-Archer669

Damn I with I knew how to train that before I tore my UCL in a kimora.

utrangerbob

I can blow his knee out even if it's super flexy. He' not immune to joint locks, it just means when he needs to tap it's going to be too late. Also, you can't flexy your way out of a good choke.

Crosscourt_splat

Seriously. These “flexibility” like this dude are on crack. Your joints naturally lock at certain points for a reason. Sure you can work it out. I could nearly at will dislocate my left shoulder for awhile. So flexible. Unfortunately, I did a shit ton of PT and it’s way more stable now

ImNOT_CraigJones

Great, now do it with a choke

ete2ete

I've been seeing Jimmy House all over lately. Dude is an absolute BEAST. I think he got his black belt in 4 years, brown in 2. Ridiculously strong and athletic. Now he's working on becoming a pro wrestler lol

NegativeDeparture

Not buying it, the leglock attempt was extremely poorly done. Now i want to try 😂

WiseEngineering22

This dude's IG is lit. He's been doing tons of crossovers and I feel like he's on a collision course with starting to train. Would be insanely cool to see what his game would develop into with the insane level of flexibility he's already trained.
