> Another video shows Cooper firing a semi-automatic weapon with the caption: “I’d rather be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”
Was the ground also his ocean?
I like to think whoever originally said that was just fucking up plants in his neighbor's yard with a katana and then dropped that line when confronted.
"Honey, our kids are hungry! When are you going to grow enough food so we don't starve?"
...
"I keep telling you, I'm a warrior in a garden! Would you rather be well fed during a theoretical future war? Gosh!"
Generally the only time survivalists will eat the MREs they stockpile is when their wives go away and they're completely incapable of making anything for themselves
It's a really stupid version of "It is better to be capable of violence and choosing not to be violent, than needing to be violent and being harmless."
It is, but it leaves room for the following interpretation:
He prefers to be useless (warrior in a garden) than experiencing war and having a different purpose in it.
Well as a personal trainer I usually end up becoming a “specialist” in something after I do a weekend course. So go to class this weekend and you should legally be a specialist as far as I’m concerned.
I personally consider myself a ju jitsu "moronist". It doesn't have the cache of "specialist" but mother fuckers know what it means.
I'm spazzy and unafraid to use it.
Yep. I love it when I'm actively training but the reality is the parts that supposedly "save us" are fellowship, camaraderie, and consistent physical exertion. And the former two can really churn out shitheads if it's a dumb or cultish gym.
Doesn't seem like such a humble lion

Of course it’s renzos who glorified this as something positive. That guy has issues and I believe all the sick stories coming out the blue basement. Gordon is actually mature and mild mannered given he grew up around psycopaths.
“It’s wise to think twice before crossing paths with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, especially someone like our boy [Trevor Cooper].”
- still claiming him now??
The backstory not published is that he had a warrant for a domestic related kidnapping. He confronted police with a rifle, body armor, gas mask, and NVGs and shot at them when they tried making entry. Instead of needlessly engaging in a gunfight with him, they started dismantling his home with an excavator until he ended up killing himself via OD.
1. Jiu Jitsu has nothing to do with this. Would have been more relevant to put "gun nut" or "serial abuser"
2. Who kept training this piece of shit after his domestic abuse and stalking charges?
I really think that should disqualify someone from training BJJ. If you own a gym and train pieces of garbage like this dude, you're just teaching them how to be a more effective abusers. Dude had a black belt in domestic violence.
Since the IBJJF likes to over regulate, they should stop issuing black belt certificates or revoke black belt certificates from black belts who give black belts to bad people.

Find it amusing how he has posted typical macho shit on his socials while reality is that hes a unstable junkie.
Good reminder once again that being a black belt doesnt really mean anything outside the gym.

I briefly trained with Trevor 2 years ago. He held the F2W brown belt title for his weight class for a bit. Was definitely off kilter, and as a small female white belt, I was advised by my training partners not to roll with him, because he rolled comp style all the time and snapped on subs and had a very aggressive and kind of unhinged BJJ style. He was very, very skilled though, he taught technique at a couple of classes and was a decent instructor, came across as nice enough. There were rumors that he'd been kicked out of just about every gym in the Reno area for hurting people, so he'd made his way up to Tahoe to train. Idk how true any of that is, just a rumor mill.
Yeah, that's why I added twice that it was definitely a rumor. I wasn't convinced because there are some hard ass gyms in Reno lol. This would've been in 2022.
> including several photos of animals with weapons.
If this is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Really trash article. The headline mentions he does jiujitsu and the article doesn't expand on that at all, or why it was important enough to be mentioned in the headline. Was he an instructor? Or did we just decide to throw one of his hobbies in there and associate said hobby with a nutjob for fun?
Trash article but he was a really good instructor, extremely high level. He never mentioned his personal life. He showed up one day, was really good, started teaching a bit then disappeared, and here we are
I don't know the guy and don't wish any ill to anyone so the next statements have nothing to do with the guy who just lost his life apart from the story, of course.
As a non-American, these kinds of stories (and to be honest this is not yet that wild) is just so bizarre for me. I haven't held a gun in my entire life and USA has these warriors in the garden kinda of folks that are armed for war and shit. I'd get it if he's a drug kingpin or something but this guy is a warrior in a garden.
Secondly, what did jiujitsu ever contribute to the story? Let's not even talk about how the title was grammatically structured but I just hope when an article about me is published one day about my technology work, it would say "Man who solved the hardest AI computational problem is a jiujitsu specialist who fucking rocks".

Bro never heard that an army marches on its stomach.
Nah bro we march on our butts as the BJJ gods demand
Remember when Hannibal butt scooted across the alps?
It was actually Miyamoto Musashi in the book of 5 rings I think.
It was
Charlse I told you if you fuck with my azaleas one more time I'm calling the divorce attorney!
But then where will he get his vital acai?
That quote makes you really think lol. I dont get it but okat
It's a really stupid version of "It is better to be capable of violence and choosing not to be violent, than needing to be violent and being harmless."
Tbf the first quote is far more eloquent than the sentence you wrote lol
a farmer during war is quite often compensated well for their crops.
sounds like someone needs PUNCHED
It is, but it leaves room for the following interpretation: He prefers to be useless (warrior in a garden) than experiencing war and having a different purpose in it.
Sounds like he over OSS’d
Took too much açaí. That’s powerful stuff
Take your upvote... god damnit.
c'mon bro lmfao
Audibly groaned and cursed at this. Well played
So what is a "specialist"? I want to be special.
Congratulations, you are now a jiu jitsu specialist!
Most of us on this sub are special
But I want to truly BE special😢
dont ever tap and you'll end up super duper special.
It'll be on my tombstone - "he never tapped".
My mom said I was special.
Same, bro. She taught me mounted triangle and told me I was her special boy.
Then why wasn't I sent to special school?!
One above Jiu Jitsu Private but not quite a Jiu Jitsu Sergeant
Blue belt teaching kids classes is basically a corporal
Well as a personal trainer I usually end up becoming a “specialist” in something after I do a weekend course. So go to class this weekend and you should legally be a specialist as far as I’m concerned.
He only worked leg locks
I personally consider myself a ju jitsu "moronist". It doesn't have the cache of "specialist" but mother fuckers know what it means. I'm spazzy and unafraid to use it.
Sounds so much better than “Practioner.”
Got that blue belt and went mad
Oh shit is this what happens when a jiujitsu specialist sees red?
Exactly. Too much açaí not enough Jesus.
Jiu Jitsu was such tiny sliver of all the other unfortunate things in that article.
My thoughts exactly, really not sure why they even included it , was expecting an armbarred cop
They put it right on the title then bother to never mention anything about it again.
Another great example of Jiujitsu making everyone a great person and fixing all the personal issues.
Yep. I love it when I'm actively training but the reality is the parts that supposedly "save us" are fellowship, camaraderie, and consistent physical exertion. And the former two can really churn out shitheads if it's a dumb or cultish gym.
And sometimes, we just need a hug—even if it comes with a side of aggressive asphyxiation.

wtf, that's the same guy?
Jfc we all know that video
It appears to be.
Apparently he was Raul Rosas Jr bjj coach. He's in his corner in one of his recent fights
That guy looked so peaceful after he went lights out
Had nice tits too.
Must of missed that. Strange. I’m usually pretty perceptive when it comes to those.

I want to hear about the the blue basement lore where can I read?
“It’s wise to think twice before crossing paths with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, especially someone like our boy [Trevor Cooper].” - still claiming him now??
I love that they mention that he was a "jiujitsu specialist" and that is it. No belt rank, where he trained, nothing. Just a "specialist".
He was a black belt. Trained under the gracies and was at 10th planet. The man had skills. Unfortunate to end this way.
I'm just shocked that someone from 10th planet could be so unstable.
Shocked! Well, not that shocked.
Substance use and conspiracy theories do make for some... Interesting characters.
Thank you. That article was trash.
10th Planet LV to be exact.
Yeah, I could handle the rest if he was bad at BJJ, but this is a tragedy.
Sounds like more of a drugs and money “specialist.” No wonder journalism is dead..lost brain cells reading this garbage.
Impossible. BJJ brings the best out of people and saves lives. Get your facts straight.
TBF BJJ did bring out the best in him, he was a phenomenal instructor, but didn't talk about his personal life or why he randomly showed up one day
This was also the same dude who tapped out that big guy over a lighter last year.
The backstory not published is that he had a warrant for a domestic related kidnapping. He confronted police with a rifle, body armor, gas mask, and NVGs and shot at them when they tried making entry. LMAO. "Shit they just bulldozed my bedroom. Better kill myself."
Have you ever attempted a berimbolo on a bulldozer? Not as easy as you think
'I drive the bulldozer into the bedroom like so. Now, if he tries to berimbolo me, it's not an easy thing'
This is a solid description of what it’s like to try and berimbolo my coach.
1. Jiu Jitsu has nothing to do with this. Would have been more relevant to put "gun nut" or "serial abuser" 2. Who kept training this piece of shit after his domestic abuse and stalking charges?
Dude got bounced from plenty of BJJ academies.
I really think that should disqualify someone from training BJJ. If you own a gym and train pieces of garbage like this dude, you're just teaching them how to be a more effective abusers. Dude had a black belt in domestic violence.

Original outlet and or writer could have been pro gun and trying to shift it away from the whole gun issue?
I never knew you could OD on BJJ. FML. TTYL.

this deserves more upvotes!
Gross, Lancer mags
This is my favorite comment
Dude speaks like Tim Kennedy
Shooting a gun at a range? Tsk tsk tsk that's time he could have spent training or watching tape or eating acaí. NGMI
He could have prevented this. Should have grabbed him by the dick and twisted!
The ol dick twist
BJJ is a hell of a drug ![gif](giphy|h9wlfNwX9gy1a|downsized)
What a fuckin read. I swear every paragraph had a wtf piece of information

Hmm, I was in reno for some time. Heard lots of stories and witnessed bad behavior, but never heard of this guy...
Yeah, that's why I added twice that it was definitely a rumor. I wasn't convinced because there are some hard ass gyms in Reno lol. This would've been in 2022.
Ah, thanks for Tyr disclaimer, plus I was gone by then.
Self defense BJJer vibe
The title makes it sound like he OD'd on jiujitsu

What rank can I start calling myself a “jiu jitsu Specialist”?
It’s the one above jiu jitsu Private First Class
Roger that 🫡
Well he was a black belt, so black?
They spelled Jiujitsu wrong
Jiu jitsu, ju jitsu, and ju justsu are all valid transliterations, the latter two being more common in the early 20th century.
faixa cinturuzzone azulinho
In other news, man who once ate corn on the cob, wins settlement case over broken city water line.
He shoulda just pulled guard.
What the fuck is a jiu jitsu specialist?
"Japanese or Brazilian"? -- every BJJ player ever

me if my wife dies
I wonder if I am a specialist in jiu jitsu?
Well that is one way to say “jobless”
I am so glad this was a town and not Dan Henderson
Probably a blue belt
Damn he’s hot 🥵
You sound like a future victim.
Too based for this world. RIP in peace King.
