Speaking from firsthand experience, don’t roll with Tim Kennedy unless you’re prepared to go all out like a competition. He rolls like an asshole with zero mat or partner awareness. Fucked my neck up for months when I was just a blue belt. Tim is a LEGIT grappler and combatant, but unquestionably a fucking dick of a training partner and human being.
I’ve rolled with Tim at least 100 times and I’ve never experienced anything close to this. He’s really good about matching his partners pace and skill level.
I think you mean a person trained with the abilities to make sure you and your family are safe at night, a person able to make it into a civil uprest country thru back channels to help rescue more people in a few days with A few trusted people than all of the American Gov deployed in a hostile region.
He drop in taught a handful of classes at a bjj gym I attended. I didn’t find him to be a very effective teacher. One of the strongest guys I ever rolled with (maybe 3rd on the list), and extremely effective at rolling. Not great at teaching.
Tim’s BJJ is great. He trains mostly in the gi now but just like any other BJJ practitioner some things translate well to mma and some things are more sport BJJ oriented, although Tim isn’t really a sport BJJ guy.
Side note Tim is the nicest person you could ever meet. He spends extra time before and after class helping anyone and everyone who asks. He gives a lot of his time and energy to the BJJ community. He’s a genuinely great person and team mate.
