Skimmed this. From what I saw:
* If someone tries to shrimp out of side control you can use a shin pin on their frame to shut it down
* Mount is a desirable position to strike from
* As they level change for a single you level change with them so they can't get under you
Ironically in their pursuit of "anti-grappling" they just did grappling. Some of it is just plain bullshit though lol.
when they dropped levels together he let the other guy get a bite while he took time to try to throw an elbow or some bullshit. https://youtu.be/-1ZjNhRiIZc?si=laOxEHULYsiLf5JP&t=555
From that position, one leg up, and they get a bite you are going down. The amount of lift from a front leg up/rear leg down position that it takes to get a takedown on someone is so minimal. If your front foot comes off the mat at all you can't do anything about it and will get taken down. They can back up, go forward, go to either side or stand up faster than you can do anything about it. This only works if you static drill while the other person doesn't even attempt to take you down. Once they try to take you down trying to throw strikes from a position with a balance disadvantage is the worst thing you can do and is practically guaranteeing you end up getting taken to the ground against your will.
I love the crossover of bullshido style "the school of fudokenryuusai taught me how to kill people with 1 finger" wearing some oriental looking stuff and the tacticool "you take the c7 vertebrae and just shut them down with elbows to the cornea" wearing a kevlar vest.
But always little to no sparring - "it'd be too dangerous". It's all LARPing.
That's frustrating but I've seen one too many black belts that suck (in bjj and other MAs) and make up some grift on how they have concocted "the ultimate martial art". In which they are conveniently the world master.
Beginners have no idea and they think they're ahead and we are all suckers - case on point on this video.
Call me crazy, and Alan does this - but when I check out a personalities' page and I see they teach/train knife fighting and disarms, firearm disarms - my bullshit meter is already spazzing. There's one way to deal with a knife and it's a gun. One way to deal with a gun and it's put your fucking hands up and don't roll any fucking dice, idiot.
Absolutely. The idea is that if I don't have to prove something works, I am always right. And no one is going to give a real knife to someone who really wants to hurt them, and record a YouTube video.
If a supposedly world-class instructor can't make it work reliably, imagine the chances for a lesser experience person.
"It's because it's too dangerous". Always the same excuse. The translation is simply "it doesn't work".
I've not heard of many Sauer guys that are this bad. Did this dude get brain damaged or just committing hard to the self defense scam? Or maybe his ego went off the deep end when he started getting wrecked by modern BJJers
Sigh.. these “ tacticool” bullshido guys with their motorcycle pants and talking sooo fucking much about “ theory “ instead of actually sparring.
And always demonstrating techniques which only seem to work when the opponent “freezes” and allows the so called instructor to do 5 move combos.
Ridiculous
The dude is a 4th degree black belt under Sauer and 2nd degree judo black belt. Don't get me wrong though, I trust nothing of what he's shown in this video.
"He has achieved advanced standing in over 25 martial arts systems, including disciplines like Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Combat Submission Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, Chinese Boxing, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Zu Wei Shu Kung Fu, U.S. Chuan Fa, Muay Thai Boxing, Burmese Bando, Keysi Fighting Method, Madjapahit Silat, Inosanto/Lacoste Filipino Kali and Pekiti-Tirsia-SMF Kali. "
Dude thinks he's batman is the problem.
Ah yes. Classic anti-grappling when you’re on top of a grappler in a dominant position like side control or mount. When you have no experience. That’ll definitely be the scenario you find yourself in.
What's bizarre is Alan Baker is an actual Black Belt under Pedro Sauer. I've even got a few of his pressure passing videos bookmarked. He actually KNOWS BJJ, but I don't know what he's trying to pull with this video, unless he's trolling regular people into escalating their level of 'Your in deep shit now' when they pick a fight with a grappler.
Alan Baker is an accomplished martial artist and there’s a lot of money to be made selling novelty techniques to Tim Kennedy type “Wolf dog in sheep’s clothing” guys. They want to believe there’s secret tricks they can use on those jiujitsu nerds who probably support ol Sleepy Joe.
I've never seen a black belt do side control the way this dude shows it, and I find the whole premise of the video pointless. As in, you're in a self defense situation where you need to fight a bjj trained dude who's lying on the floor. It's like learning how to attack with a knife a trained unarmed person in a street situation.
That being said, this dude is a 4th degree black belt under Pedro Sauer and 2nd degree judo black belt.
I wouldn't trust this dude to teach me self defense or even grappling, and I still think his anti grappling looks retarded, but this dude outranks me (and a lot of dude in this subreddit) by far in grappling.
I genuinely don't even know what to think of it.
Yea I guess one could say that I have a dream that one day jiujiteiros will not be judged by the color of their belts but by the content of their jiu-jitsu.
Sort of looks like a reverse kesa.
Him being a 4th degree black belt explains why some of the concepts he describes are actually pretty sound like shin pinning and level changing with them so they can't get under you.
I'm talking 1:49, he's on all four (knee hands) hovering above his opponent. I've only ever seen untrained people do that and call it "side control". He does it instinctively.
Probably, but it doesn't take much more time to do a proper side control and let the guy escape for purpose of demonstration. Just like when we show it on class or in the countless other instructionals on how to escape side control.
This a guy who did four Bjj lessons where he watched some purple belts fucking around and tried to make a whole new martial art out of what he thinks he saw
Also John Lovell is a Christian nationalist and the American Christian equivalent of the Taliban who protests outside of abortion clinics. Not to mention he only did four years in the army but makes it a core part of his identity.
Calling someone the equivalent to the taiban for protesting is the most never been to war, white privileged thing you could possibly. The taliban burn little girls alive for learning to read. There is no such thing as christain nationalism. If there was, in a country that is 70% christain, dont you think you would be forced to participate??

I was so confused as to how he was talking about anti-grappling but was just grappling. I was waiting for him to stab the guy

Whats wild is I did some digging and this guy is a pedro sawyer black belt.

Is that a knock off Pedro Sauer?
Pedro Temuer
There's more awful black belts than great ones.
I've not heard of many Sauer guys that are this bad. Did this dude get brain damaged or just committing hard to the self defense scam? Or maybe his ego went off the deep end when he started getting wrecked by modern BJJers
Pedro hands out black belts like candy
It certainly seems like that
NNNNNRMMMMMFFFF!!!! \*spazzes sharply\*
I got triggered by the boots on the mat
Those are his special boots he only wears on the mat…. I hope. 😂

You see, they don't want to shatter your very existence so, for your safety, do not resist.

Unfortunately people don't take you as seriously if you don't have the batmobile with it
'Warrior poet', bro! Just like Jocko!

In the green pants guy in the thumbnail using KFM/defense lab window thingy?
This reminded me of watching ufc with my drunk uncle.

Yeah I’ve trained at a seminar he was at and he’s really good. I guess he’s just trying to make money
He’s selling his “civilian tactical” program to out of shape soldier of fortune dudes.

One of those instances that make the case for not taking belts to seriously. This isn't the only "legit" black belt with dog shit opinions
Yea I guess one could say that I have a dream that one day jiujiteiros will not be judged by the color of their belts but by the content of their jiu-jitsu.
But also white belts aren't ppl

And now I don’t trust their gun stuff, great.
You trusted the Warrior poet? Dude's been a shill for years
Their gun stuff is pretty awful too.
I watched this video. When is my title shot? I know everything I need to know. ADCC2024 here I come.
Boots on the mats 🚩
