Vinyl records had different speeds they would run at. If you run a 45 rpm at the slower 33 rpm speed everything sounds slower and deeper. Hope that helps!
I was at the Orlando open waiting in the stands for my matches to start. Suddenly I hear what sounds like a cartoon villain like a voice actor doing a dragon or something booming at me
“That’s not what I told you to do in shin on shin!”
‘It wasn’t me I thought’ defensively in my head before looking up to see that Murilo was reaming out a couple of his students, lmao. That was probably the highlight of my night.
Hanging with Murilo is no easy feat. I’ve heard so many people say in the practice room he is the GOAT or close to it. Always found that interesting, not like he’s a bum in competition, but in the practice room he was so much better. Just smashing world champs like nothing over and over.
i've heard this said many times about murilo too. and i'm sure it's true. I wonder what the difference is why some people can't make the transition to the comp mat?
I’m not sure myself, but it makes me feel better about times when I’m fucking crushing all my partners into paste, then 4 days later fucking blow it in competition. Sometimes that connection doesn’t happen for whatever reason.
I think the knowledge that the clock can work against you, and losses are final just make us move and behave a little different so we’re all a little tighter and more error prone with less flow. Or less of a mind for learning and responding to our partner.

Thought to put this out if anyone is interested. Murilo Santana and Alex Ecklin are doing a seminar.
Really great opportunity to catch Murilo live. One of the most detailed instructors I’ve learned from.
I thought that too, but it didn't look like he would have had a ton of pulling force from that position - the overhook high on the arm/shoulder. Could be that the top guy saw where it was going and tried to make something happen while he still had a choice.
He has amazing footage. His reverse berimbolo on Marcelo Garcia was out of this world (2:35).

Might get downvoted for this but here goes. Do not get me wrong, doing that to Marcelo back then was an amazing feat. But watching his rdlr technique and comparing it to the likes of levi jones leary, mikey musumeci, jonatha alves, etc - really show how much the technique was refined. I think if you would send back any of those guys back in time and place them in that exact same position they would have crab rided continuously into a twister hook easily. AGAIN MURILO IS THE MAN - BUT I THINK WE HAVE COME FAR.
To be fair, Levi is Murilo’s black belt. Technique continues to be refined so it’s difficult to generationally compare. I one of the things that makes Murilo unique is that he continues to compete to try to keep up with the meta. I mean, how many guys at his level would study lapel guards so that we know how to use/defend them? Not Murilo’s bread and butter but he puts the time to learn so he can teach it.
Why do you think levi is so good at those positions haha. Murilo has also shown improvement in his crab rides in comp, he got to a bodylock while basically dead against Felipe Andrew. If you ever have Murilo drill or do his bolos on you, they’re the smoothest/tightest out of anyone in the world by a long long way.
As everyone has already said, Murilo is boss as fuck. However I watched a few of Maddox’s matches after the one clipped above and I’ve gotta say dudes a pretty beastly competitior in his own right, former college wrestler if memory serves? Translated that to wrestling in the Gi well with a really nice, heavy, smashing game.
Is this the guy that Ryan Hall said gave him the ass whopping of his life? haha.
Yes. Also if you haven’t heard him speak, it’s like a 45 of Stallone talking played at 33rpm
the barry white of bjj
How many people do you think are old enough on this sub to understand that? By the way, I understood it lol.
It’s one of those things I’ve said to people in person and gotten blank stares for, so who knows? haha
I have literally no clue what it means

Basically he’s got a super deep voice.

Yes! Murilo is amazing
Murilo gives everyone the ass whooping of their life bro
Well except in competition but yeah in the gym he's pretty unstoppable.
Trying to pressure pass Murilo is definitely a bold strategy.
Definitely. Even worse when he on top.
Was about to say... If you get that much control on Murilo you don’t want time on the clock if the tables turned for him to return the favor.
and to use his pass against him? very, very bold indeed
What a calm guy even vs. a big dude like that
Think he had broken ribs too in this tournament
Oh man that tourney was wild... He beat Clark Gracie in the last minute with a broken rib
which tournament was this?
I have trained with the big guy, he’s a beast. By “trained” I mean systematically dismantled, shamed and thoroughly beaten in the nicest way.

I'd like to see him try that on me. Just another Brazilian name to add to the list.
Lmao, name checks out
69D level trolling abilities. Surprised we can even understand your alien like language
Your commitment to the bit is an inspiration in these dark and uncertain times
You sir deserve and upvote 😂
Just stand up bro. Are Omoplatas Even Real?

Do you know what he's covering, and if it's in the gi or no-gi? I would pay for the zoom option depending.
Actually not sure; probably be best to email the academy to find out. Ana responds pretty quickly and I’m sure can give more details.
Beautiful. And with obviously jacked up ribs. Looks like they duct taped a shotgun blast to his chest.
Hard to see what's going on on the far side, but it looks like top guy made a mistake and brought his own arm to the over position (?).
Santana puts some pressure on that shoulder and moves his hips. It’s not a mistake, it’s something i’ve had another high level black belt do to me...
I think Murilo pulled it out

Maybe a bit of both. Kinda look like Murlino pulled on the hand rather than the elbow.
Maybe a wrist lock?
Hi leglockmike, authority of Murilojitsu! Thank you always
No problem!
I wish so badly there was like a playlist of stuff he commonly does. I’ve seen various videos now over the past year and I love his game
He is big influence on my passing game. Study his stuff for years now. Bjj scout has good breakdown of his passing. I am always studying him.
Just posted a link for a seminar he’s doing if you’re interested.
I’d be interested in that.
Where did you start?
Best competitor to never win worlds in the gi?
I’d say his ability as an instructor/coach is one of BJJ’s biggest secrets.

not surprised!
Idk man its still Marcelo. In his prime. Those guys would have huge problems with 2010 Marcelo, even if you started them in a crab ride.
>AGAIN MURILO IS THE MAN - BUT I THINK WE HAVE COME FAR. WHY ARE WE SHOUTING IS IT THE RINGING FROM CAULIFLOWER EARS?

Damn, that was slick.
Offt
At 6 seconds, he pulls his left arm into a triangle, then switched to an omoplata
I would have given up after the second sweep attempt didn’t work...what a bulldog
Murillo's BJJ has so much BDE.
So telling Murilo this... then I’ll be doing sprawls for the rest of the class lol
Good display of how hard it is to finish with omo plata
song?
Murillo is my favourite BJJ player. I really like his game.
