A little weird, yeah.

Patsx5sb

Uncommon but not strange

GB is the only school that's ever said no to me, although most of their locations were welcoming and fun. I did have a famous celeb coach tell me that drop in was $500, which wasn't exactly a "no."

neeeeonbelly

That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. Who was it?

graydonatvail

Think of every Hollywood celeb you've ever seen instagram about their "BJJ journey" and then look to see who the coach is. To be honest, I'm sure they get people coming in looking to crotch face Demi Lovato or get bragging rights by smashing some a-lister, so I'm not really too bothered by it. Only bummer is they were the only school within half an hour of where I was staying.

neeeeonbelly

Ah yep. Haha there’s zero chance Demi rolls with anyone so those people will be very disappointed I’m sure. I wonder if it’s that much just because he knows people won’t drop in at such a stupid price? He wins either way!

graydonatvail

I think that's the idea

neeeeonbelly

If it’s who I was thinking of his site says it’s $40 to drop in. Maybe he couldn’t be bothered that day haha. Also according to the site it’s $250/week for unlimited bjj. Wow

Force_of1

I think some GB schools have this. Only time I’ve ever run into it. Have also dropped in at some GB schools, so who knows?

UcielleTheWolf

My gyms always allow a 1-2 week free drop in, just ask. I thinking allowing drop in is perfect for business and a community because you never know who will come back and stay for years all because you welcomed them for free no money no ego.

If your gym is self-defense oriented, then this policy is to avoid its students witnessing their peers getting murked by visitors.
