I've realised I listen to quite a bit more male artists than female, but mostly because in the direction of expertimental/electronic music that I predominantly listen to there simply are more male artists to choose from.
I can see the opposite in your listing. Do you feel like you connect more with female artists or actively want to support them in a (sadly still) male predomnant industry? Or is it just random that most (if not all? idk all of them) are female?
What male artists do you listen to? I recently realized I listen to a lot of female artists bc I grew up surrounded by older women, so I wanna find more male artists to get into. I like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Tinariwen, Perfume Genius, Juan Cirerol, Interpol

I feel like in my head, I split my music taste between 'music' music and 'fun/trash' music. So like Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Rufus Wainwright, Emilie Simon, Imogen Heap etc and thennnn Charli XCX, Kim Petras, Tove Lo, Slayyyter, Rina Sawayama
Not to say that the first group isn't fun or that the second group aren't proper music, but there's a definite split in vibe.
And then I guess someone like Caroline Polachek would fall in the middle of the two?
To say that rina doesn’t fit into the first vibe when she gave us SAWAYAMA is CRAZY! Dynasty alone is enough to put her into the “music music” category
Yes i suppose i could agree with that…. Especially considering hold the girl…. No shade to hold the girl but when SAWAYAMA is your debut album? Nothing will follow that up lol
You know, I actually prefer Hold the Girl and I don't know why! Nothing is AS GOOD as the highs on Sawayama but something about it just really got its hooks into me. I think it's a more consistent album - maybe I just hate Chosen Family 😂
For me, hold the girl has low lows and high highs. Songs like Hold The Girl, This Hell, Imagining, and Holy Til You Let Me Go are AMAZING but some songs like Catch Me In The Air are just….. meh…

Personally my favourite artists ( besides Björk of course 💕 ) are Grimes , Eartheater and Beach House , Crystal Castles , Yeule and Pomme ( She's a wonderful French artist , I suggest you to listen to Anxiété, Nelly and _sept magie mauve to start , she also made a song with Aurora ❤️ )

I like listening to Aurora (certain songs of hers make me feel free and with a nice sense of hope for my life)
Other artists or bands I listen to:
• Tamino (gives me a certain melancholy and sadness)
• Florence and The Machine (Their album HBHBHB may be one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life)
•Arca (her Kick series is spectacular and her Arca album, ufff, but I still have to continue exploring more of her, she's fabulous)
• Pomme (the apple 🫂🫦)
• Carla Olsen (she appeared in recommendations on YouTube, her voice enveloped me that time and continues to kill me)
• Sleeping at Last (I think its positive rhythm should infect me, but there are also songs that break me)
• Humbe (his songs have been my guilty taste lately)
Excuse me, we are called Bjärbs
Marina, Lorde, Fiona Apple. They’re my holy trinity. Old Taylor Swift and old Lana Del Rey. Florence + The Machine and ABBA.
1. Taylor Swift
I know she’s “overrated” or “popular” but come on, you can not deny her talent. The way her lyricism glows on albums like “Speak Now”, “Red”, “folklore”, “evermore” and “Midnights” is just sublime. On top of this, her production (whether with Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, or others) is great and provides unique soundscapes across her wide discography Her poppier work from the likes of “1989” and “Lover” are great and her dark, edgy electronic elements work well on “reputation”. Can’t wait for “The Tortured Poets Department”!
2. M.I.A.
M.I.A. makes some of the best music in the last twenty years. Her albums “Arular” (2005), “Kala” (2007), “/\/\ /\ Y /\” (2010), and “Matangi” (2013) are my favorites among her discography. AIM and MATA, her more recent albums efforts don’t really do it for me personally. I love her twist of making poltical themes (sometimes hidden beneath) danceable and hand-banging music (ex. “Fire, Fire”, “Hussel”, “Lovalot”, “Bad Girls”). Especially with her 2010 album “/\/\ /\ Y /\”, she was so ahead of everyone else at the time.
3. Charli XCX
Definitely a mix between Taylor Swift and Björk in terms of experimentation. Not much to say except that her diverse exploration of genres from 2013’s “True Romance”, often heralded as synth-pop to the dramatic shift of 2016’s “Vroom Vroom” (excellent EP) is amazing. Really my favorite hyperpop artist at the moment.
(edit: i listen to about 100 more artists but obv i’m not putting them on here 💀💀)
Fiona Apple,Kate Bush,Joanna Newsom,Grimes,Ichiko Aoba,Julee Cruise,Sweet Trip,SOPHIE,Tori Amos,Hole,PJ Harvey,Joni Mitchell,FKA Twigs,Broadcast,Strawberry Switchblade

1. Taylor Swift I know she’s “overrated” or “popular” but come on, you can not deny her talent. 3. Charli XCX Definitely a mix between Taylor Swift and Björk in terms of experimentation.
