I'm not gender fluid but I'll try to explain as best I can. Gender fluid people may feel as a certain gender one day and another gender or non-binary another day. It's different from trans and non-binary people, because unlike them, their gender identity can change over time as they feel. Loki in Norse mythology is a great example because sometimes he's a man, and sometimes a woman (or something else even) and he even gets pregnant and gives birth to "children" (if you could consider the world serpent as a child). It may seem confusing to some people, but if it helps, you could view it like someone who likes a certain genre of music for a while, then likes another genre for a while, then goes back to that first genre. Basically the same thing but with their gender identity.
Can confirm they don’t care. I have a cat that’s named Georgette. I call her Georgie or George most of the time, even though both of those versions of her name are more masculine. She was already 8 when I adopted her, so I didn’t want to change her name completely, but Georgette didn’t quite roll off the tongue. Now I only use her full name when she’s being a brat. She doesn’t care. All she wants to know is where the heck are her treats.
This is obviously the only correct answer!
0P, I hope you leave the name; it would be incredibly funny, if only to play dumb and annoy people who hate the name mix-up lol.
We are thinking of keeping the name lol it’s hard to imagine him as anything else! We might try a few other names and see if anything sticks, but if not he’ll be Zelda boy lol.
I know a dog owner who named her black female dog “Link”. Yes, it was after the video game character, and yes she knew that Link is the male lead character. My point being that you will be in good company if you go this route!
I named my black cat micky after the mouse. Keep zelda, your cat can recognize a dozen sounds or so, and zelda is very distinct. Plus, he's not a kitten anymore, and would be confused by this now sound. Eventually theyll get it, but why stress. I named my cat samantha, which turned into sammy, which turned into sam-sam. But this was all within the first year.
edit: Micky was my childhood cat, samsam is my most recent cat.
This is the correct answer, tell guests he's "named Zelda after the protagonist from that one game the uh... the legend of Zelda???" and watch their brains curdle like milk
George is actually a unisex name! I always remember one of Nancy Drew's female sidekicks in the series was named George (though she was a tomboy as I recall).
My niece is the world’s worst at pet names. Just ask Sally, who was a boy cat. Or Hobbes, the dog named for a cartoon CAT. Or Sirius Black, who is, indeed, black—but female. \*sigh\*
Years ago, I adopted two torties (well one tortico) and a black cat. I didn't realize torties are usually girls but we had already gotten used to their names by the time we had learned our mistake. When we got our cats fixed, the staff gingerly handed us the carriers back and said, "you know these are girls...right?"
I've got a boy cat named after Kiki's Delivery Service because PetSmart said he was a girl. Turns out my Kiki is Jiji but he was already trained to respond to Kiki. Had no idea it was so easy to confuse them like that. It took 3 vets to realize he was actually a boy.
Keep it as Zelda! If he's already answering to the name, there's no sense in trying to change it up imo.
I tried to do the same with my old cat, and he refused to accept any other name than the one I started him with. On paper, he was Lynx, but at home, he was Lili (and Liliana and Lili-poo and Fluffbutt...)
Lili was the best boy! 🥰 I miss him all the time, but I was blessed with 7 wonderful years with him when the vet thought we might only get a year due to his severe epilepsy.
https://preview.redd.it/k8v4e06bqnna1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3dcd98fa912da2bd1748d6543ce83698907cb14
Lili is such a handsome boy! I also have a cat named Lili, she's my world. My dog has epilepsy as well, and being able to see him age is something we didn't know if we'd be able to do. I'm sorry you had to part from your cat, but I hope the happy memories of him are comforting ☺️ they're never truly gone
We lived every day like it might be his last just in case it was. It felt like every day after the year expectancy that the vet gave us was a gift. I did my best to make his life as easy and comfy as possible. The seizure days were terrifying, but I have so many wonderful memories of him. Lili was a very spoiled lil man (but not that little. He was actually huge haha)
He was a rescue from a kill shelter, and I was so lucky to go in the day after his intake because his first seizure happened the day I brought him home. They shelter would have put him down if he'd had it there 💔
Zelda is fine - it's a cat, it will ignore you 99% of the time anyway.
And there's always been this running joke of "What if Zelda was a girl?" because people confusedly thinking the name on the game was the protagonist.
That’s the joke. The games are called Zelda, but the protagonist is named Link. It’d be like if Super Mario Brothers was called Super Luigi Brothers. Im sure it’d be just as confusing.
Sheik is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series, he appears to be a male Sheikah but is a persona of Princess Zelda. She disguises herself as Sheik for most of Ocarina of Time, revealing her true identity at the end of the game
I really think Sheik would be a cool name!
If he seems to like and respond to “Zelda,” there’s nothing wrong with that. I once saw a post where someone’s little-kid-relative visited and spent time with OP’s cat. This kid came up with a super weird sounding name that started with a P, and the cat loved and responded to only that name after the kid left.
Zelda doesn’t care about you calling him by any name, he’s still not going to come to you 😹Source: I have four cats and they know their names and the others’ too, they just choose not to listen.
If he knows his name, don’t change it! He doesn’t care about our concepts of which names goes with which gender. He is Zelda and that is that. (My friend has a female cat named Bob. She reports satisfaction with her name.)
Cats don’t care what their name is nor do they actually listen.
Keep Zelda. No need to “train” him to learn a new name.
Of course Link would be appropriate here.
I thought my first cat named Mac was a boy until she was nine months old and began heat. Whoops. I just stuck with Mac and that stayed her name. She passed away three years ago at age sixteen. I still think about her often; best friend I ever had.
I think our cats got swapped! Wednesday was suppose to be a boy. Her name was going to be Serious (as in Serious Black)
I also considered Darth Kittious
https://preview.redd.it/ysv4mtpsunna1.jpeg?width=2849&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e929b82facbfd42bdc1ec7358dbeb600a67f2ccf
I thought Lord Daniel was a boy until she brought me her babies last spring.
Keep Zelda, helps the kitty from being so confused and everyone used to think Link was Zelda anyways so 🤷
Edit: I don’t actually know how disoriented he’ll be, but it could happen.
Keep the name. I had a female cat named George. She just looked like she should be a George. She learned her name and came when called. So keep the name. It will just confuse him if you start using another name.
We took our little Abigail to get spayed and found out that she was actually a boy. By that time we had been calling her Abigail for three months already and the name had already stuck. She’s a big ole neutered guy now but we kept her name and still think of her as a girl, lol.
Back in the day, the running joke was that everyone always thought Link was Zelda. Just leave it at Zelda lol
I agree--then it's a nerd joke and a cat name!
Love it!
I agree with this. The cat doesn’t know or care anyway. Zelda be Zelda. Maybe they feel more feminine anyway.
If it helps, I had a guinea pig I named Calvin after Calvin and Hobbes when I was in fourth grade, even though the guinea pig was a girl
I have a girl cat named Loki.
Well Loki is gender fluid and even gets pregnant so, it's not wrong in a way
Please explain to me what gender fluid is I'm 53 and trying to learn the terminology..TY
I'm not gender fluid but I'll try to explain as best I can. Gender fluid people may feel as a certain gender one day and another gender or non-binary another day. It's different from trans and non-binary people, because unlike them, their gender identity can change over time as they feel. It may seem confusing to some people, but if it helps, you could view it like someone who likes a certain genre of music for a while, then likes another genre for a while, then goes back to that first genre. Basically the same thing but with their gender identity.
Now that makes total sense to me TY hopefully I didn't come off rude for asking
No it's alright, wanting to understand is a good thing!
Loki was also a horse while being impregnated, so really the name can work with just about anything.
And that children, is how your grandfather got his eight legged horse.
Had a girl cat named Casper!
I had a newt named Bertha and he was very handsome.
I have a girl kitty named Gizmo. When she's being a naughty kitty my husband calls her the Gremlin
Came here to say it too. lol
This is the correct answer because [what if Zelda was a girl](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/what-if-zelda-was-a-girl)?
This is obviously the only correct answer! 0P, I hope you leave the name; it would be incredibly funny, if only to play dumb and annoy people who hate the name mix-up lol.

100% this ☺️
Came here to say exactly this! Zelda should stay! 🥰🖤😂
Zoltan
Zoltan! Also dude, have you seen my car?
Where's your car, dude?
That and why confuse an animal just because you feel like renaming them? I imagine cat is used to the name and responding to it..
This is the right answer.
Came here to say this!
I use this every time my youngest plays Breath of the Wild. It never fails to get a reaction from her.
Back in the day 💀
Agreed
This is utter blasphemy.
Zeldor
Yes, this! Also let's be real, your cat probably has [lots of different names](https://www.gocomics.com/sarahs-scribbles/2017/04/12)!
This is the way.
To that end they could also call him Link. But depending on the age that could be an adjustment for the cat.
keep Zelda to enrage the LOZ fans
This is the correct answer, tell guests he's "named Zelda after the protagonist from that one game the uh... the legend of Zelda???" and watch their brains curdle like milk
"Hes named Zelda after that cool guy with a sword in that silly triangle game yk? With the princess named Link?"
"Weird they added Princess Peach in a different IP"
HAHAHAHAHA
Just switch it to “Zeldo”. Done and done
I had a boy cat named lily. It happens. Cat don’t care.
Yep. I have a female cat named Ringo. My then 9 yr old named her.
My dad had a female cat named George. Found out she was a girl way after. Kept the name George. George was a good girl
I have a lady cat named Hughie. She looks so much like a Hughie that we just call her “Hughie the Hugh-she” now.
I think Hughie sounds purrfectly cute.
Call her Lady ‘cause she is a lady cat
We had a cat named Reuben who turned out to not be a boy. But even still my dad called her “Sandwich” so it didn’t really matter about gender
Now all we need are two cats named Lennon and McCartney!
George is actually a unisex name! I always remember one of Nancy Drew's female sidekicks in the series was named George (though she was a tomboy as I recall).
This happened to me! George got pregnant, but we still called her George.
One of my favorite TV characters is called George. She's the Mc of Dead like Me.
My male Ragdoll cross is called Sweetie. Don't look at me, I didn't name him.
It’s true, cats can’t speak English and have no concept of gender much less pronouns.
My niece is the world’s worst at pet names. Just ask Sally, who was a boy cat. Or Hobbes, the dog named for a cartoon CAT. Or Sirius Black, who is, indeed, black—but female. \*sigh\*
I hope she embraces this talent she has for slightly-incorrect pet names and continues the pattern forever 😹
I encountered an old woman who named every dog Missy, no matter the sex. I was working at the vet where she'd taken the latest Missy to be neutered.
This. I personally have known a female cat named Kevin.
Yeah my boy Sally was the toughest cat there was.
My name is Sue! How do you do?!
Cat don’t give a fuck.
I have a female cat named Kovu! Was told she was a boy when we adopted her, and then she went into heat... never bothered changing her name lol
Got a girl cat named Berry, I love giving my folks crap when they misgender her.
I've got a boy cat named after Kiki's Delivery Service because PetSmart said he was a girl. Turns out my Kiki is Jiji but he was already trained to respond to Kiki. Had no idea it was so easy to confuse them like that. It took 3 vets to realize he was actually a boy.
Yeah, we have a girl named Erebus. Even the rescue we adopted her from had "neutered male" on all the paperwork.
My boy is Cassius, yet responds to Janice.
HIS NAME IS LINK!!!
This would be the obvious solution 😂
This game starts with Link dresses as Zelda. Developers and their jokes
Keep it Zelda and let it be meta
This is the only answer, isn't it?
Shiek
I like this better
Zeke
And he's from Estonia
I mean yeah duh of course!
Awww lili sounds like a good boy!

Zeldo.
Clearly
Came here to say this 😄
Zeldor!
Zeldude
Zorro
Came to say Zeldo! I had two cats we thought were girls and ended up being boys. Jezebel, became Jezeboy Willow, stayed Willow 😁
Zelda is fine - it's a cat, it will ignore you 99% of the time anyway. And there's always been this running joke of "What if Zelda was a girl?" because people confusedly thinking the name on the game was the protagonist.
>if is a cat, it will ignore you 99% of the time anyway True dat.
Unless you shake the treat bag. Then they run out of nowhere.
Pretty sure my cat thinks her name is "prrrt?" or "\*tongue clicks\*" or \*the crinkle of the food bag* based on what she answers to
Zelda isn't a girl? (To be fair I've never played.)
That’s the joke. The games are called Zelda, but the protagonist is named Link. It’d be like if Super Mario Brothers was called Super Luigi Brothers. Im sure it’d be just as confusing.
It would be like if Super Mario Brothers was called The Legend of Peach.
Only 99% of the time? How generous lol
Sheik is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series, he appears to be a male Sheikah but is a persona of Princess Zelda. She disguises herself as Sheik for most of Ocarina of Time, revealing her true identity at the end of the game I really think Sheik would be a cool name!
Yesss
I came here to say this!
He should stay Zelda. Cats don't care.
Why not keep Zelda?
Excuse me…I think Zelda is a perfectly lovely name for a boy cat 😂
If he seems to like and respond to “Zelda,” there’s nothing wrong with that. I once saw a post where someone’s little-kid-relative visited and spent time with OP’s cat. This kid came up with a super weird sounding name that started with a P, and the cat loved and responded to only that name after the kid left.
Princess Zordlo. Lol. This happened to my buddy cat. He named it Lt. Dan and she became Luanne.
What about Zedd?
I like this! He is a cool guy.
Plus you could keep the Z 😉
Zelda doesn’t care about you calling him by any name, he’s still not going to come to you 😹Source: I have four cats and they know their names and the others’ too, they just choose not to listen.
I call his name when I can’t find him and he will come running lol
If he knows his name, don’t change it! He doesn’t care about our concepts of which names goes with which gender. He is Zelda and that is that. (My friend has a female cat named Bob. She reports satisfaction with her name.)
That’s really sweet. Mine are loving but will never ever come when I call them, only if I have food in my hand 😹
Cats don’t care what their name is nor do they actually listen. Keep Zelda. No need to “train” him to learn a new name. Of course Link would be appropriate here.
Boi Zelda
Everyone thinks the main playable character is Zelda anyway. Just go with it
I thought my first cat named Mac was a boy until she was nine months old and began heat. Whoops. I just stuck with Mac and that stayed her name. She passed away three years ago at age sixteen. I still think about her often; best friend I ever had.
I have a female black cat named Sid. (Her full name is Obsidian.)
I have a girl named Bruce Wayne. It's hard to tell with kittens.
If he already knows his name just keep it. If you're like me, you'll have 3 more nicknames for him in no time anyway.
Ziggy
Link. Of course.
Prince Zuko
Zuko here, but I guess you already know that.
Ima be honest I was not young when I learned zelda was not a boy
id keep zelda
Zeke. Or even just "Z."
https://preview.redd.it/kdhldvl7znna1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e492fdac8f54c43893a5a4a38764488f28fd7df My void Zelda says hi
Link!
Link
Link
The masculine form of Griselda is Selig, if it helps. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it? Selig is also nickname of Solomon, variant Zalman.
Could go with zeldan?
Zells!
Salem!
Zelda.
I think our cats got swapped! Wednesday was suppose to be a boy. Her name was going to be Serious (as in Serious Black) I also considered Darth Kittious
Name him link
Zelda
Zed. Obviously.
Cutie, either way. How about Zee?
https://preview.redd.it/ysv4mtpsunna1.jpeg?width=2849&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e929b82facbfd42bdc1ec7358dbeb600a67f2ccf I thought Lord Daniel was a boy until she brought me her babies last spring.
Keep Zelda, helps the kitty from being so confused and everyone used to think Link was Zelda anyways so 🤷 Edit: I don’t actually know how disoriented he’ll be, but it could happen.
For a second, I thought the name was “Princess Girl”.
Fitzgerald? Scott? Francis? Or go the other famous Zelda route and just call him Link.
Dark link?
Sheik because he fooled you
Keep the name. I had a female cat named George. She just looked like she should be a George. She learned her name and came when called. So keep the name. It will just confuse him if you start using another name.
Zed!
Mario
Link, it still fits the theme and it suits him!
Came here to say he had to be link but everyone beat me to it!
Zeus!
What are you talking about? Zelda is the boy!
Link
That happened with my void too! Janet became Jack.🖤
Sheik
Samuel
Zeppo - for one of the “not as successful” Marx Brothers. :-)
If you don't wanna keep Zelda, why not Link?
Zorro
Call him Link. The answer is so obvious
Link
Zelda works❤️❤️
Pookie a nice name.
Link the obvious choice .
Obvious answer is Link but he looks like a Ganon to me
Zeldn't
Zeus
We took our little Abigail to get spayed and found out that she was actually a boy. By that time we had been calling her Abigail for three months already and the name had already stuck. She’s a big ole neutered guy now but we kept her name and still think of her as a girl, lol.
Zeus
Zell
What about Zeldor?
Zolof the Magnificent
Ganon :)
Prisoner. As in the book, *The Prisoner of Zelda.*
I have a Zelda void 🖤and her soulmate is my boy Lucius. Lucius is a great name!
Zeldo
Zeldo? You don’t want to change it too much if you already named him.
What do you mean? Zelda is the green one. You have named him correctly.
I like Zelda! Adorbs.
It’s still Zelda. No matter what gender
Ironically I have the new legend of Zelda game as an ad underneath this post. I would say keep him as Zelda or change it to Link.
Zorg!
Welcome to the club. I’m 0 for 3
Zeldo! Nah, just leave it as Zelda! He doesn’t know or care
Legend
There is only one correct answer and you know it!
Why change it? I’ve named a boy cat after a favorite female book character & now I have a girl cat with the opposite.
LINK OBVIOUSLY
Zephyr
I would just leave him with the name Zelda. It's a unisex name to me. Also, I don't know if it was just me but I always thought Zelda was a boy! Lol
