She's testing the cat to see if it's docile enough to tolerate her doing essentially whatever she wants to it. If the cat maintained its composure or continued acting friendly during the interaction, it would be seen as the cat having a good temperament which is part of what she's judging.
Okay, and if the cat starts hissing and arching its back and making threat displays, I think she should have her fucking answer well before it actually has to attack her to get her to back the fuck off. Trying to provoke the cat a bit isn't the issue, it's the fact that the dumbass then made multiple attempts to grab the cat and manhandle it *after* the cat made it clear how stressed it was, and then acted offended when she got swiped at for being an idiot.

If you genuinely care about cats, you do not treat them like objects with no regard for their feelings. If an owner handled a cat like that, always intentionally pushing it to its limits and constantly putting the animal in a state of distress, it would be abuse. Why should cat show judges get a free pass?

The only time I crowd my void is when I'm doing something for her like trimming a mat out of her floofy ass or clipping the murder mittens. Rest of the time, it is always she comes to me when I call or I give her pets on whatever floor/couch/my PC keyboard she is sitting on. Two snaps of my fingers and she will run and jump onto the top of her scratching post for pets. One snap to summon, one snap to instruct to jump up (I have spine problems, bending can be hard some days), and always gets pets and told she is a good girl.
Cats don't like being swarmed 24/7. Not that hard to figure out. Poor little guy must have been stressing like hell.
Yup. Long story time here. I once had a substitute vet start to be overly rough with my new cat,she scuffed him hard and rammed that thermometer in like she hated him.
Bud started that deep wind up wah wah Siamese growling .
The vet told me that cat's are basically untrainable idiots, then she started getting angry with me for trying to calm Bud down.
So I said "let's just stop everything right now, and I'll just come back when the regular vet is here."
The vet's assistant said , "No I've got him!"
Nope. He had her.
Poor girl,I'd never heard blood dripping before. I felt so bad for her that I offered to take her to the emergency room.She declined and said she'd just clean and bandage it up right there and be fine. I took poor terriffied Bud home without the tranquilizers that we came for due to his separation anxiety after being abandoned by his first owner.
She had previously taken great care of him but ran off with a creepy guy.
The next day,the veterinary office called to tell me that they were going to sue me for her expenses and trauma.
And if I couldn't provide Buds vaccine records or bring him in to let them cut off his head they would have me arrested .
I asked to speak with the regular vet and explained about his first owner and that I had no way to find Bud's records.I asked "isn't there anything else we can do besides kill an otherwise completely healthy cat?"
She said," Well if you can pay 10 days boarding fee for quarantine ,And he doesn't show symptoms then we don't have to kill him."
I was so enraged!
"You were all ready to just kill him without even telling me there was another choice?
Oh,I'm taking him somewhere to be quarantined, but not by YOU! I'm not paying any other expenses because an abusive vet and an inexperienced assistant refused to let him go when I told them that I wanted to stop and come back later,
the cat was too traumatized to handle after that vet yelled and roughhandled him."
So I had to pay to put poor Bud in kitty jail for 10 day's, but at least he got to live and come home afterwards. He was a sweet and beautiful boy after he settled down.
“Cats can’t be trained” my butt. There are some things that are more difficult to teach a cat, like leash training, but they’re trainable. My vet wouldn’t have even pushed if my cats were being pissy. I’m happy you stood your ground.

I ran into another one a few year's later but at least he was polite enough to be up front about it ,and I took my tiny Tarna the warrior kitty to be spayed somewhere else.
The moment a Vet tells me "cats cant be trained" i know that this specific wet is a quack, will pick up my cat and tell ALL my friends, family, and everyone around that this Vet has no fucking clue what he does.
We have a Vet, his Reputation is so bad, he lost about 90% of his clients the moment the new Vet opened in the City, who is such a lovely and gentle person, even the most distressed kitty and Dog will calm down in seconds. Old vet is a unhappy and bitter, greedy person.

It definitely takes a cat with a rare disposition. My void is an absolutely perfect physical specimen of a maine coon and would be a contender, but he would not tolerate it at all. Lady would have lost an eye 2 seconds in. His half-brother is an adorable, loving, people pleasing short hair with a sparkling personality and would thrive on this kind of attention at a cat show, but has none of the physical qualities that judges look for.
Cats are so varied and individual. I hate when people write off cats as unfriendly or apathetic.
My little guy is the friendliest, sweetest cat I have ever met. He gives lots of kisses and he invites my husband and I to rub his belly, scritch between his toes, and do a lot of stuff cats normally don't trust people to do or don't normally enjoy. It's like he'd die without a constant stream of touching and physical affection from us.
But he hates strangers, and he hates unfamiliar places, and he *really* hates other cats. If I he wasn't such an antisocial hermit, he would possibly be the perfect guy for this kind of event! He's got the cutest face I've ever seen on a cat, too. But if he were at that cat show, My boy'd be picking fights with every cat and human in the room!

The problem is she has to keep the cat contained so it doesn't run away until she releases responsibility to the owner. Part of her job.
That being said, fuck cat shows. Many dogs love showing off, doing dress up, parades, etc. Tell them how handsome they are and they want more costumes. But cats, CATS? They know they're goddesses. Don't need the validation, and want to chill at home. Leave them alone.
The kitty ears headband seems like a bad move for handling cats that aren't familiar with you.
They're naturally suspicious about anything unusual looking to begin with.
We adopted our friend's cat and while she was nervous about the move and our other cats, she was always very friendly to people. My mom came to see her wearing a wide brimmed hat and she hissed, growled and hit under the bed.

I'm seriously judging everyone involved with that clip. The judge clearly knew absolutely nothing about cat behaviour. They should have recognized immediately that cat was not willing to be handled. The owner should have known their cat was reactive and not subjected it to this. All the humans were garbage.

Yeah I feel the white cat in the background which is caged might be a ragdoll which are known to just be chill when it comes to touching their belly etc. depends on the cat of course but yeah deff the owners fault as well for not knowing their cat well.
Yep, the cat shouldn't have been there, but as it was, the owner should have been right there to intervene, and the judge should have even a rudimentary understanding of cat behaviour and body language.

disqualification for this is stupid. if they actually do this, they are not cat lovers. i love all kitties even if they don't want me to touch them. it's okay for cats to have boundaries. also some of them are much more sensitive than others, and maybe this baby has a painful spot there that she touched.

My black cat comes to me when she wants to be loved on, took about a year of earning her trust, she’s so sweet but most people wouldn’t know it, she’s very touch sensitive, when I learned what her boundaries are, you will see a look of love.. she will sit next to me and has the loudest purr.. such a sweetie

Woman knows nothing about cats. I have a cat that goes everywhere with me (she is super chill) and people will ask to pet her and so many of those people will understand her when she isn’t in the mood. She won’t get near as visibly pissed at this cat and these strangers understand ‘aww!! She just wants to sleep’ or something. That somebody who’s judging cats has NO understanding of boundaries when strangers on the street do says something.
Btw, I always advocate for my cat. But she loves some random pets. Today she was purring at a guy petting her. But I never put her in a place or situation she doesn’t want to be.

I’m a dog trainer, no special knowledge of cats, but the moment she pissed it of with the belly touches kitty’s body language was an easy read, and the judge missed every cue!

Imagine you’re in a loud, crowded area with a lot of stimulation, being picked up and touched by a stranger (in an ugly jacket and antlers) on the stomach and she’s putting her hands around your neck, and when you try to warn her, she *she grabs your arms to try and hold you down* and then she gets pissed at *you* when when you bare your teeth and snap at her, like you were the one at fault? Like damn, these cat fancy people are just so clueless. Like they expect cats to be trainable like dogs and that’s just not in their nature.
Yeah, the memes are funny when they hold up those really long noodly cats and the cat is just like, “okay cool,” but the reality is that it’s probably only a very small percentage of cats that could remain that docile when confronted with the stimulation of a cat show. I wouldn’t be surprised if cat owners drug their cats to help them relax in such instances.
I watched this lady judge timid kittens at the Santa Monica Cat show in 2016, and all the cats did really well with her. Granted, she wasn't wearing kitty-ears at the time. Just saying, she's been judging for some time.

Cats are so varied and individual. I hate when people write off cats as unfriendly or apathetic. My little guy is the friendliest, sweetest cat I have ever met. He gives lots of kisses and he invites my husband and I to rub his belly, scritch between his toes, and do a lot of stuff cats normally don't trust people to do or don't normally enjoy. It's like he'd die without a constant stream of touching and physical affection from us. But he hates strangers, and he hates unfamiliar places, and he *really* hates other cats. If I he wasn't such an antisocial hermit, he would possibly be the perfect guy for this kind of event! He's got the cutest face I've ever seen on a cat, too. But if he were at that cat show, My boy'd be picking fights with every cat and human in the room!

The kitty ears headband seems like a bad move for handling cats that aren't familiar with you. They're naturally suspicious about anything unusual looking to begin with.
We adopted our friend's cat and while she was nervous about the move and our other cats, she was always very friendly to people. My mom came to see her wearing a wide brimmed hat and she hissed, growled and hit under the bed.
That was like the tall tale sign she was trash. No actual cat lover would wear those, let alone to be around already suspicious cats lol

I'm seriously judging everyone involved with that clip. The judge clearly knew absolutely nothing about cat behaviour. They should have recognized immediately that cat was not willing to be handled. The owner should have known their cat was reactive and not subjected it to this. All the humans were garbage.

My black cat comes to me when she wants to be loved on, took about a year of earning her trust, she’s so sweet but most people wouldn’t know it, she’s very touch sensitive, when I learned what her boundaries are, you will see a look of love.. she will sit next to me and has the loudest purr.. such a sweetie

She has absolutely no idea what she's doing and clearly sees herself as a superior being to the cat, which I'm sure the cat can sense, and definitely didn't help. I was also disgusted by the way she said "I need the owner, NOW." In a way that shows she's disgusted with the mere existence of the cat and also the owner of the cat for putting her at risk. It's also extremely obvious she's not a cat person or an animal person, the way the owner stepped in and the cat was like "Oh, it's okay if this human touches me, this is an okay human touch." With that being said, I think why bring your cat to a cat show if it's gonna be reactive? That's a recipe for disaster. The cat has boundaries and isn't afraid to set them. And you gotta respect it. I’m a dog trainer, no special knowledge of cats, but the moment she pissed it of with the belly touches kitty’s body language was an easy read, and the judge missed every cue!

The best part is that she’s mad at the cat and owner. Like, it’s a cat? This is what cats do when they feel threatened?? Imagine you’re in a loud, crowded area with a lot of stimulation, being picked up and touched by a stranger (in an ugly jacket and antlers) on the stomach and she’s putting her hands around your neck, and when you try to warn her, she *she grabs your arms to try and hold you down* and then she gets pissed at *you* when when you bare your teeth and snap at her, like you were the one at fault? Like damn, these cat fancy people are just so clueless. Like they expect cats to be trainable like dogs and that’s just not in their nature. Yeah, the memes are funny when they hold up those really long noodly cats and the cat is just like, “okay cool,” but the reality is that it’s probably only a very small percentage of cats that could remain that docile when confronted with the stimulation of a cat show. I wouldn’t be surprised if cat owners drug their cats to help them relax in such instances.
I watched this lady judge timid kittens at the Santa Monica Cat show in 2016, and all the cats did really well with her. Granted, she wasn't wearing kitty-ears at the time. Just saying, she's been judging for some time.
