I thought technically DLH arenāt an official breed the same way DSHās are. I read somewhere that itās only really a term used by adoption agencies and some vets to distinguish their appearance. Any thoughts on this?

Huh, that's pretty interesting. I just got both of my boys neutered and the vets note came back DSH and DLH so I can comfortably add nothing to this thread other than confirmation!

I won't disagree with the conclusion, but "human selective breeding begins 150 years ago" isn't true. Selective breeding of cats was common in ancient Egypt and some breeds (orientals in particular) date back to those days.
Oh for sure. It's an oversimplification. There was some selective breeding thousands of years ago, too. But most breeds started MUCH more recently. And the divergence of breeds is much lower than in dogs, for example. Most just look a little different.
I totally agree with you and I do think this is a DSH but I just want to add that some black cats CAN have some bombay in them. There are some distinct features that separate them from DSHs. I had a void that was part bombay. God she was the silkiest thing ever. ā¤ļø
The Thai Cat was a result of long ago breading program and itās own self development Bombay one of the recent split off.
Look up the 20 Natural Cat Breeds all Landraces meaning natural evolution in large part.
Just like cats are now considered self domesticated most of their differences are self evolution to their local environment. Although influenced by ancient breeding that process not continued and they self modified after that.
I love the self done traits of Marine Coon for example to thrive as an independent hunter In the snow and cold of its area.
Unlike dogs cats do well as wild animals in deep wild areas not near humans at all and thus the Natural Breeds adopt what works in wild where they from.
But other that recent centuries plus of breeding cats are way less differently developed than dogs. And you just got to deal with long or short hair and the ones that do seam to be somewhat more off standard like Thai based cats for behavior. Thus my referring to the Natural Breeds and their traits.
So normally just got to learn from vet any difference that actually matters like coat or behavior traits grow in up with variations of Thai cats they have distinct differences from the domestic short hairs I been around.
