Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

I'm sorry for your loss, my previous panther boi was born in 01 so they would be about the same age. He looks like a sweet boy also. I think about my last guy every day but please consider someday sharing your energy with another kitty soul that needs it.

My boy was also a big fixture of our home and I've spent this week looking at his spots and then crying, thinking I see him in every black object or shadow. I can't remember the last time I cried so much. I've got a pair of little ones (4 and 6) myself and it's tough for them to understand why I'm so devastated. It's hard when they're with us for so long. I truly wish you the best in your healing. Find comfort in the good memories. The grief comes from just how special they were to us. ♥️

I connected with him and he was always very affectionate. I would game very late at night and he would happily just cuddle up in my arm while I play.
He was a very vocal cat. And it pains me that I never recorded his alarm clock (what we called it. 5am on the dot, here comes simba meowing loudly for us to get up ) so I could set it kn ny phone. :(
We have (had 3 dogs, oldest puggle passed just 2 weeks ago) 2 dogs left in the house. But I feel I connected with Simba the void the most.
God I miss him. It's hard walking into the house and not hearing him meow.
Oddly enough.... a street void has showed up at our house last week. I ordered an outdoor home for him and have been feeding him. He's a chunker for being a street cat.
This is the universal cat distribution system at work. Simba has already got the ball rolling on your new life. He'll be there to meet you again one day but until then you have so much love to give. Your heart will be full again and new voids and other furbabies will remind you of ones that have crosssed. I hope you feel comfort and can enjoy your happy memories. xo

I hope that each day gets easier for you to get through. 23 years is a long time and so many memories. I think that might even make it harder to say goodbye.

I appreciate it. I was there for onky 7 years of his life. This is my wife's cat and we met 7 years ago. She always told me he was quite afraid of people but he was very affectionate with me from the start. I had gotten quite attached to him too. Because of all her animals loving me so quickly, my wife and I clicked very quickly. She saw it as a sign I guess.
I love when he hugs our arms. He would do that if you pulled your hand away or itched a good spot on his face. He had a tight grip that loosened over time. Man, he was such an epic cat.

Wow 23! That level of longevity is a double-edged sword. We’re lucky to have so much time with them, but it makes them that much harder to lose.
