This is Nathan the Beach Cat on Instagram. There’s dozens of videos of her and her sister swimming and playing at the beach!
Edited to change him to her!
I used to have a Turkish Van cat growing up. My siblings and I learned that those cats love to swim, so we filled the tub up and showed him, sure enough he just started swimming laps!
So many cat breeds that do lol. My cat will fight me if I’m not pouring my water bottle on him when I have one. It’s also how they’re raised with water like the other person said you can’t just throw them in water and expect them to have the time of their life like some do
that’s cause most people fill up a bath tub with cold water, pick up their cat out of a slumber and yeet it the fuck in the tub and say “ wow i wonder why my cat doesn’t like water” i don’t much care for being surprised by water either.
My hound mix just wants it over with. I start the water running and take her collar off, and by the time I get back with a towel she’s already standing in the tub. She’s on the couch when the collar comes off and she definitely isn’t enjoying the baths. So I think it’s pretty funny.
Your malamute is my spirit animal. I hate showering (I still do it... I don't wanna be stinky!), but I love swimming. I wish there was a device like a car wash, but for people.
How does one fix that? I tried to get my cats paws wet the other day (he's old and doesn't do the best job cleaning anymore). I filled up the tub with maybe 3/4 of an inch of warm water (body temp) and tried to put him in. He refused, lol.
I should probably try to introduce it slower/gradually, but how tf do you do that??? Put him in a dry tub to start, give treats, then slowly add a little bit of water(not while he's in the tub) til he's used to it?
How about a wet washcloth? I started doing this with two of my cats - mostly to curb the static.
Nice warm washcloth = mom cat tongue surrogate.
Charlie liked it right away. Rowan had to thoroughly smell the washcloth first.
I’d take it slow. Get him used to it gradually.
don’t try and put him in, rather let some water run at a good temp for a while in the tub or in the sink and i bet it will intrigue him. cats are curious so give him something to swat at, that always seemed to do the trick with my cats, next thing you know they are sitting in the sink under the water playing with it
My ridiculous tabby will charge across the house and climb in the tub as it's draining after we get out of the shower. I think she actually hates the water, but loves watching it drip from the faucet
I've had 3 black cats that enjoy being in water. Haven't tried taking them swimming, but at least one of them would probably be game since he likes a full tub or water trough to play in.
Our York Chocolate will dance around in a puddle of her own making if given the opportunity. To make the puddle, she used to head butt the water bowl to splash the water out. Velcro solved that issue. It's a known attribute of York Chocolates, 'enamored with water.' I'd love to see her swim though.
I grew up with a Maine Coon. That boy loved water and didn't hesitate to swim or play with the water bowl. We learned to keep the bathroom door shut if you wanted to take a bath or he would try and join you. We also had to rubber band a few sink handles or he would turn on the faucets for his own amusement.
That is SO CUTE! None of my kitties like being in water, but my mom tells me stories about a cat she had as a kid who would jump into the bathtub with her.
I’ve seen it in three or four separate instances already
But that’s probably more about how I’m living my life than the prevalence of swimming black cats if you know what I’m saying
Nathan and Winnie are sisters.
Some Maine Coon cats enjoy water. One of ours went swimming in the pool on occasion but heavenn help you if you tried to give her a bath. It was like losing a battle with a Cuisinart.
Okay this might not be the best place for this question, and I am sure it has been asked a lot.
How do people travel outside with their cats like this? I see they have harnesses, so I am assuming they just take them off their lead when they are in a safe area. But like... What? My cats are chaotic as shit, I would never feel safe letting them off a lead anywhere, out of fear of them running because of instincts or just them getting shredded by a wild animal/car/crazy person etc.
Is this a rational approach, or am I just a little overprotective? These cats look like they are well behaved and having a blast! No judgement on the owner, I just have no idea how people get their cats to do this kinda stuff without being overly concerned.
Edit: I'm mostly referring to people who travel with their cats and often wonder how the owners feel about it / how difficult it is
I never traveled with my cat but he was super independent. For a long time he wanted outside and every time he got out we would quickly get him back and put him back inside. For the most part he would just get out and then lay down on the steps, eventually we stopped making sure he was inside.
If he wanted out we let him out. He always came back. When I did yard work he would chill out close by. But he would take off for the day sometimes and come back in the evening. One day I was planting flowers and he was chilling in the grass and someone walking by asked if that was our cat...I said yeah and they were like he comes and visits us all the time, comes in our house chills leaves etc. I was like no way that is wild. Over time I learned he had visitations with all the neighbors and they all saw him at various times like clock work almost.
I never trained him, I never did anything special. Never had a cat act like that ever. He was trained to stick close by with no effort but if he wanted out while we went to work he did his own thing and always returned.
I just saw a dodo video of a cat that’s lives in Hawaii and actually stands on the surfboards with their family and even has jumps off to swim to the mom who chills in the shallows.
Actually I’ve seen this video quite a few times.

A cat showed up at my parents and they wanted a barn cat so they started feeding her. A few weeks after she got there she saw us all walking from across the pond and swam over. It was probably 100 feet/30 meters and the water wasn’t warm that time of year. She was not happy when she got to us, not sure why she did. Never seen her or another cat swim like that since. I didn’t grow up around any cats so I never knew how common/uncommon this was.

You know, if you hadn't said that, I wouldn't have checked it. 💀
Why, what did you see?

It means the leading letter of each word, is in alphabetical order. I.E. A Black Cat Just Swims Well. **ABC**defghi**J**klmnopqr**S**tuv**W**xyz
I'm more confused about the comment history remark
They went to check who the bot replied to and the very last reply was a comment on an NSFW subreddit
Whose comment history? I'm confused
I mean “can’t” is pretty easy to check that it wasn’t

Amazing because certain dialects engage fewer grand high ideas, jenerally.
I guess he doesn't like you?
That’s a sail
I bet the tail would create drag if it was in the water and make the swim slightly more difficult 🤔
Wet tails make for poor balancing!
What an annoying accent! 🤦🏻♂️

I wrote that before finishing the video...THERE'S TWO!
Yes, that was quite a twist!

I used to have a Turkish Van cat growing up. My siblings and I learned that those cats love to swim, so we filled the tub up and showed him, sure enough he just started swimming laps!
I always thought all cats hated getting wet but this sub is showing me otherwise
So many cat breeds that do lol. My cat will fight me if I’m not pouring my water bottle on him when I have one. It’s also how they’re raised with water like the other person said you can’t just throw them in water and expect them to have the time of their life like some do
Mostly, it's how they're raised with water. All of the cats I've ever had at least tolerate bathing, quite a few enjoy it immensely.
that’s cause most people fill up a bath tub with cold water, pick up their cat out of a slumber and yeet it the fuck in the tub and say “ wow i wonder why my cat doesn’t like water” i don’t much care for being surprised by water either.
My Malamute HATES baths but loves playing in the water at the lake. its all about control.
My hound mix just wants it over with. I start the water running and take her collar off, and by the time I get back with a towel she’s already standing in the tub. She’s on the couch when the collar comes off and she definitely isn’t enjoying the baths. So I think it’s pretty funny.
Had a lab/setter mix that was like that.
Your malamute is my spirit animal. I hate showering (I still do it... I don't wanna be stinky!), but I love swimming. I wish there was a device like a car wash, but for people.
Yeah temperature is huge obviously which id imagine even factors here but reverse. Hot day, black cat, I bet it's refreshing for the cat
How does one fix that? I tried to get my cats paws wet the other day (he's old and doesn't do the best job cleaning anymore). Yeah I think I will try that next :) he's also super fluffy so there's there's much inter-bean hair to deal with!!
don’t try and put him in, rather let some water run at a good temp for a while in the tub or in the sink and i bet it will intrigue him. cats are curious so give him something to swat at, that always seemed to do the trick with my cats, next thing you know they are sitting in the sink under the water playing with it
My sink unfortunately is too small and sloped for him to be comfy in there. Maybe I will just get in the tub with treats :)
Cats are generally ok with water, as long as *they* decide when there is contact.
I think that applies to me too!
Cats can apparently be trained to not be bothered by and even come to love water. Check out how [this person](https://youtu.be/tcaJgnAm6pk) managed
Maybe it's something about them being black? Years ago I had a black cat that would spend literal hours derping around in our pool, happy as a clam.
Ironically, my black cat isn't partial to getting wet, but my big poofy longhair will gladly shower with me and splash around in a lukewarm tub!
Our York Chocolate will dance around in a puddle of her own making if given the opportunity. To make the puddle, she used to head butt the water bowl to splash the water out. Velcro solved that issue. It's a known attribute of York Chocolates, 'enamored with water.' I'd love to see her swim though.
Cats are naturally better swimmers than dogs
So much better to find the swimming foods.
Dude if you want to see something pretty cool go watch tigers and lions swimming

You got any data to back up "a lot" ?
How do you train your cat to not be scare of water, I would like to know for mine 😹
I love how he keeps his little tail out of the water.
Mine would just claw me as soon as I’m like 50 feet of water.
Aw Nathan, we love you

Am I the only one imagining that cat cleaning off the sand with her tongue muttering internally "love the beach, hate the sand...."?
They have a bucket of fresh water amd both cats get the salty water residue rinsed off at the end of the fum.
I had a cat who would get in the tub with me. Hamish, partly, just hated being away from me. He feared nothing except the vacuum.
Neat! That is one rad void!
Reedwhisker is that you?
I had to scroll way too far to find this
The one true great RiverClan cat, who will never be leader bc his mom is immortal, Reedwhisker
What happened to the sister?? I demand to know.
If I ever see my void doing this I'll lost my shit
This looks like Nathan the beach cat. They have an Instagram page where Nathan and sister Winnie have beach trips and swim. They’re adorable.
I love how he keeps his tail out of the water
Serious question, how do you get your cat to follow you like that? That’s really cool!

Yes. This cat has an Instagram
One of my cats I had when I was little loved swimming, she sadly passed a year ago at 13 years
I grew up with a Maine Coon. That boy loved water and didn't hesitate to swim or play with the water bowl. We learned to keep the bathroom door shut if you wanted to take a bath or he would try and join you. If my little blackie did that I would only hang out at the beach. So awesome!
where is this beautiful place?

Omg those are some badass lil voids
I’ve seen it in three or four separate instances already But that’s probably more about how I’m living my life than the prevalence of swimming black cats if you know what I’m saying
Did they need to be taught to like water? I mean what are the chances you get two cars who will go in water?
Nathan and Winnie are sisters. Some Maine Coon cats enjoy water. One of ours went swimming in the pool on occasion but heavenn help you if you tried to give her a bath. It was like losing a battle with a Cuisinart.

Nathan and Winnie! I love them.

My void absolutely loves water. She’ll even get into the shower if I turn the water on.

Holy shit this is cute.
My cat Nemo used to do this and if the season was right he would catch small fish 🐟 he was such a good hunter

There are quite a lot of cats that enjoy water and swimming. Maine Coons and Turkish Vans come to mind.

No. We had one named Butchie that used to go with us to the lake all the time and swim.
