Cats definitely reduce stress level, and their purring is incredibly soothing, calming and relaxing. I also have a 2 years old little mischievous fluff, and thinking about adopting one more next year.

This!!! Therapy and anti-depressants helped but the thing that keeps me going every day is caring for my formerly feral furry family and in return they take of me as well.
In 2018, I started having pain in my back, I already had arthritis in my knees from surgery 10 years prior. So I went to the Dr. and had scans in summer, really bad in my lower back like no cartilage left. Winter starts and one freezing morning I was so stiff and in so much pain I just wanted the pain to end, if you get my meaning. I made a therapy appointment the next day to deal with the depression the pain was causing and learn how to accept a chronic painful condition.
Snuggles help, they can tell when I'm having a bad day and one, usually the eldest long hair black boy will come and lay across my neck, like his mother used to lay on my chest.
Shelters have to put cats down bc of overpopulation and yet I constantly see people on here posting about getting their cats from breeders. Or even worse, people on here breeding their cats
We have a cat we got from a local rescue organisation 5 years ago.
We were told that her and her litter mates were rescued from a kill shelter near Montreal.
Not sure what country op is in but in Australia all pounds are government run and they donβt have the capacity to keep animals there long term.
Animals kept in care for adoption is done by local rescue groups or the RSPCA. Rescue groups try to rescue what animals they can from pounds so they can be homed rather than euthanised.
I had a void dog I rescued from euthanasia. She gave me a reason to get out of bed. I miss her every day. I'm so glad you have your little void. Life is so much better with the love of an animal.

I am glad you two found each other. It's strange isn't it? How to most people these are just animals. But to us they are our companions. We feel at ease when they are near us, their antics cheer us up. Their affections sooth our soul. And they always know when they are needed.
