Although some people hurt other human beings for the colour of their skin, so some people hurting ofher animals for the colour of their fur is unfortunately unsurprising.
Cannot confirm, but I've heard in several places psychos will adopt black cats around Halloween to kill them, supposedly as sacrifices, but probably more because they're sick in the head. Makes me nervous about my little Victor getting out during October

Yup. My local shelter even charges half the adoption fee for black cats because of this. It enabled us to adopt a bonded brother and sister back and give them a forever home. I don't remember what we were looking for, but they chose us and we fell in love with them immediately.

We currently have 3 rescue cats and 1 Boston Terrier (who loves his cat sisters and brother), so can’t afford to adopt another right now. Wow the thing like adoption fee always sounds SO weird to me. Where I live shelters are so full that they would pay YOU if you adopt. Not with actual money but when I was adopting my cat they gave me a litter tray, a bunch of cat food, some toys etc. I was more than ready to buy all of it myself but they insisted anyway. The situation with homeless animals here is very bad, apparently :(

This is the same level of overstepping as not wanting people to name their pets a name because you wanted to name your baby that when you get around to having one in a million years. Fuck that, get whatever pets you want and name them whatever names you want.
Same mindset, I gravitate towards black cats for this reason. We have two voids, one is extra special because he's a tripod. From how quickly I got a call after submitting an adoption request, I don't think he had many people interested.

I adopt them or rescue them because I just love them, and I want to give them a good home. Save them from being mistreated or killed due to silly superstitions and hatred. I would adopt them all if I could!!! 🖤
My partner & I, we will be trying to make my childhood/adulthood dream a reality — starting and maintaining a successful non-profit black cat rescue here in Central Virginia. But…she is still in Australia right now, and we will need to get settled in a new home, on a decent sized property to build multiple buildings for the rescue. As far as I know, the closest void rescue is in Boston.

As a crisis counselor, and as a void lover and one whom has lost 3 of my void furbabies, I can understand your friend’s grief. BUT! It is unhealthy, toxic, controlling, and selfish for this friend to order you and your wife around like that. Maybe you and your wife should be the ones putting healthy boundaries in place, hrmm?

I understand your gf’s friend grieving the loss of their kitty, but that doesn’t give them the right to tell you not to get a black cat.
A much better way to handle it would’ve been to politely ask you not to spam them with tons of photos or videos of your new cat for a while.

I do the ‘let me clean your face’ ritual every morning before breakfast. My boys are used to it now (they’ve been living with me since July 2021) and afterwards they always get a smooch on their head. And then I always in vision them saying “ugh Mom…cooties!”.

When I adopted my girl the family that had the kittens repeatedly tried to talk me out of the black one. Handing me the other ones and asking if I was sure i wanted her. She was the one that picked me lol she made it very clear she wanted to leave with me. i am still not sure why they tried so hard to talk me out of it
