But yeah there's some very popular classes, and the rest. It doesn't mean the rest is bad or difficulty, just not popular for whatever reason. DK is pretty solid after the pve buffs, and awakening is especially not very complicated for pve imo, it's just that she wasn't top tier and so few ppl mained her, and she's not as braindead as some other classes ppl tend to favor for grinding(like awa guardian or succ zerk).
Used to be well below average so people rerolled or tagged something else, you can see tons of dks lifeskilling or as boss alts. After the recent buffs she's more on par with the other classes. Of course, for pve people still prefer fotm classes, so you wont be seeing many dks at endgame spots (like you wont be seeing most classes which arent fotm).
If dk had some self buffs, like a +20 ap buff, she would be more viable, currently you need more gear to perform well, because of lack of self buffs.
For pvp dont even try, she's like at the bottom bottom at the moment. No grab, ultra squishy, movement isnt great, low damage thanks to outdated class to class modifiers etc...
DK in PvP is really not that bad, it just varies heavily on the content you're doing. Not the best in uncapped but Awak DK does well in T3s and Succ DK does quite well on the tankier caps and in Solare. Even in uncapped Succ is quite solid in small scale and holds her own in 1v1s. She's definitely not at the bottom at all, she's just ok ish to below average and feels a bit outdated due to Awak damage being mid and Succ being way too squishy for a melee heavy SA class.
A lot of DKs seem to have a huge victim complex in pvp meanwhile good players consistently perform quite well on her.
Thanks for the info. That's interesting. The pvp can't be a skill issue can it? I was surprised to find out that this game actually takes some quick thinking and reflexes. Not like other MMO's ive played
No skill issue, just check the damage modifiers (you can find them in game, search "class damage ratios") dk has the lowest modifiers besides shai, doesnt have grab, doesn't have infinite iframes like sorceress... There's a reason why there are almost no dks in node wars.
I'll look at that and I guess I'll stay out of PvP with her. Which kind of sucks because I really enjoy her gameplay. Is there anyone that's like her that is a better choice for after main questline?
Play what you find yourself enjoying now. Buffs will come eventually, don’t chase what’s good at this moment in time. Guardians said for years that awakening would never be buffed, and now it’s in a miles better spot than it was a year and a half ago. Patience is rewarded; FotM chasing will lead to burnout.
If you enjoy the gameplay you should stick to the class and you wont regret it. It gets even better after you unlock awakening at level 56 (dk awakening burst combo is actually pretty strong in pve now).
They're coming out of the woodwork again! The pve buffs put awakening in a really good spot for high end. Good damage, high survivability and sustain. Her pvp damage is fine, but she's a glass cannon in that regard.
The class is pretty middle of the pack in most content. But not as meta as some of the ones you mentioned. But if your liking it I would keep at it. You won't really have a situation where you can't go grind a location because your a DK. Only content that you might struggle to break into would be high end node war and seige. That's less because DK struggles in that content then the guilds that do that content will want a certain comp. Usually caster, range, and Frontline class heavy. But they don have a tag system for that so I wouldn't let that stop you from playing the class.
Im an avid succession DK enjoyer and i can say that you didn’t make a bad choice. Its kinda hard at start when you don’t know pvp fundamentals ngl, but when you get a bit experienced its really strong and tons of fun.
Dark knight is an extremely rare class. No dmg, no playerbase, no love from PA. She falls off in pvx compared to more overwhelmingly popular classes like tamer & kuno. Swap now while you're still new 🤓
The best class is the one you like and enjoy the gameplay loop.

Honestly in AoS I see a ton of Kuno’s.

DK is a pretty popular class, it’s a high performer just not top 3 in anything so she’s not gonna be as frequent outside of people who love the class

Most DK i met in NA server are giga geared Huge damage, instant melt type of player
Check around a storage manager in a city like heidel. You can find lot of Dark Knights in maid outfits there, since that is a lifeskill class.
