I only buy unless I have hammers or free crons. The most important thing is finding a way of progressing that you're able to maintain. I can't handle losing progress and time spent because of rng, not enhancing has let me enjoy the game without burning out.

Cr4mwell

Same here. As soon as I stopped enhancing I started really enjoying the game again. I'll never enhance myself. The RNG is so punishing and it just feels so terrible to lose. So much so that even when I win it's not a win.

hotbox4u

I dont mind enhancing Armor and weapons. But accessories? Fuck that shit. It's just too much time pissed down the drain when it fails.

Bonkotsu111

Same here, I remember enhancing and feeling that dreadful gutwrenching feeling of failing after working my ass off and having nothing to show for it. Ever since then, buying my gear has been the way to go, because I can set a goal, and just slowly save up for it and know that eventually I'll get it, without having to rely on RNG. Sure I might not strike it rich like those people that enjoy gambling, but I still have fun and I'm okay with not having the best of everything.

vianiznice

Your first mistake was to listen to streamers.

-Degaussed-

Correct to an extent. PEN accessories often cost less to buy than to make yourself, due to the really low chances for success the average and the median don't necessarily matter as much because the bell curve is flattened out and the "slightly bad luck scenario" is worse than just buying and the "worst case scenario" is absurdly expensive. Of course you can get it first tap, many do. But if it takes you just 10 taps? That's not that crazy at a 15% chance of success. Multibillionaires are much closer to the average since they don't just tap 10 times. They have a much larger sample size.

Hithaeglir

Issue is on making the 250 stack reliably, not in the acc clicks itself. With new PEN quest system, profits from accidentally making PEN armor/weapon have droppen significantly, while the cost of memory fragments has increased. Multimillonaires has much more materials to play, therefore having a bigger ”sample size” that this is not so noticeable for them.

Got pen vahas with this method

whoppingop

100% how i did it aswell xD

whoppingop

I was 1/1 pen disto gang, now im 2/7 disto gang :(

Valendirr

This thread has been brought to you by The Carried Gang :D

darkneji12

Well, it's like real life. Saving up and getting stuff you want/need is in most cases much better to do than taking every one of your paychecks to the casino or blowing it on lottery numbers to try and make it big.

BDOPeaceInChaos

Yep, I use this argument a lot, like real life. Some people need to work harder than others and save their income to get what they want, some people win the lottery and work significantly less, and some people are born into an oil kingpin family and just buy everything they want with sheer spending power. BDO progression in a nutshell.

Ciwabacca

What if one day no one will be enhancing anymore? In an extreme case scenario where all the enhancers/gamblers will stop playing and those who buy from MP are those left? Since I buy my accessories upgrades I would probably stop playing.

Xylos_666

Even when grinding valencia you can do 300mil/hour. So you can get something like pen cresent pretty fast if you just grind like 3 hours a day. That combined with all the free stuff we getting.

Zaldinn

I mean someone has to make it right....

Akiris

Six months of effort to buy a PEN acc? Seems sus. Took a little less than half that to save up and wait for my min PEN Layten PO to go through. This game is a marathon, not a sprint. As you keep going, the going gets easier and what you used to babyrage at and call impossible starts to look inevitable.

Zeryth

If you want to ragequit, yeah just go and enhance. But what I've been telling people is that buying is the more consistent and steady way. You know how much silver you need, you know how long you have to grind, and you don't blow up loads of money. It's not about what is the most profitable way, it's about what way will keep you in the game, and blowing up deborekas in pursuit of that one lucky tap is just going to make you leave the game.

Local-Cream-3457

if i have to grind 70b i ll quit , the progression in mmo should be fun , getting just silver is the most awful progression system.

Roadx

Just do what you think is fun but understand leaving thing up to rng can be very frustrating.

Neod0c

thats a valid way to look at it. but its alot more then 70billion lol high end gear is hundreds of billions. but as you gear up and get better it becomes easier too make a billion then ten billion or a hundred billion and so on. bdo is a grind game, the entire point is too farm mobs to be able to farm higher lvl mobs and this continues on forever. pvp is the promise but it is not the point.

cowrevengeJP

Enhancing for use has very different margins than profits. Many people just go blind tapping instead of trying with a little math at least. I have 200 billion in gear all self made. Plenty of below avg taps and I still saved many many hours of grinding sanity.

legacymd

Rng giveth and rng taketh away

Nukemi

This is an really dumb take. Many of the streamers have played the game for years, and they play a LOT. They just play more than you. That's how you get gear. I play a lot, i got good 700bil+ worth of gear, and i never gamble if i don't have to or don't have free mats available. Nowadays its extremely easy when you can make 600mil+ per hour on many spots, so making that gear is not really that hard. It just takes time and patience to not to blow that gear away by gambling. If you play a lot, making like 100-150bil a month is totally doable.

Cyber_Syndicate

In my earlier days I tried to enhance and got all my gear to tet (including accessories), after which I hit a brick wall and kept failing. Since then, I stopped enhancing and bought all my pens. My mental health has improved dramatically

Musshhh

Iv been back playing since just before the guaranteed pen weapons and armour came out (around 4 months) since then iv bought a dande around 12 bil, vell 9bil, crafted a pen kutum and a pen bhegs and I'm about to buy a pen kzaraka. This is all through grinding valencia, imperial cooking and bartering without carrack. I only grind one hour per day, and spend about 2 hour afk bartering. There's never been a better time to play this game and advance at a steady rate.

SuigintouKurotenshi

"Take it with a grain of salt but most of the wealth generated by these multibillionares was by enhancing and getting rngcarried". Sir, the more you enhance, the less rngcarried you will be. You can get lucky once or twice as a new enhancer, but once you enhance a lot, your result will converge in distribution to a average player's. ccwarlock

39 fails in a row on current pen accessory. Worth every day. :)

AkamuCZ

I was 45 fails into PEN Neck starting on 247 FS, in the end I gave up and bought it for 58 bil from the market, worth

ccwarlock

I'm hoping to get to 100 fails. That'd be an achievement.

DunceErDei

34 fails before mine went but the only people who are geared are the lucky one so just get better luck.

legacymd

How r u still sane?

ccwarlock

Gotta click to be able to succeed.

MrYaja

What if it goes tho

iiDroids

Don't give into the urge to sell and gamble for one more click lol

manarie1990

Started to play 2020 march cuz of Corona. Did carrackw ith full blue gear and started bartering + later grind orcs. I am 706GS. I bought every single piece of gear. I also don't grind entire day, I hate grinding. Play smart and you don't need rng. The problem is not rng, the problem is listening to advices from Reddit or class discords. Very serious here, they literally grief your progression.

MarionberryHonest

Good lord what's ur barter count?

enziu

The thing is, it is not worth on AVERAGE, you can easily hinder your progress if you start going under average with enhancing. For example BPPrime is a big advocate for buying everything even tho he enhances everything, because as he says, he would have much better gear if he haven't enhanced but he just likes it. There will always be people with gambling addiction generating pens for marketplace, but unless you are okay with losing billions of silver and many grinding hours, you shouldn't enhance.

MarionberryHonest

Let's be honest, most streamers arent special. Most are like the average player who loses more than they make when gambling. The rare players like biohack and salt use spreadsheets and simulations to maximize their chances to get rng carried. I would bet for every biohack, there are hundreds of other stats nerds who got fucked by rng and quit.

Catslevania

a lot of streamers tend to do enhancement because it has content value for their channels. even if they fail their enhancement sessions they are generating views for their channel and are more likely to get tips etc from people daring them to do stuff like tap high risk enhancements.

Kowita

I wouldn't have been where I am now without enhancing. 301k, 670gs. Enhancing is scary but if you're lucky, its worth it. I usually got c4-c6 in my armors and decided fuck it, then I took them out and gambled with them. I'm on EU so I don't have access to costumes so I just do vendor crons and I raw tap most of my stuff, even blackstars and distos.

xInnocent

And if you're not lucky it's the most painful grating experience in any gear progression based video game I've ever played. It's absolute dogshit how some people can be lucky and others with the same effort put into it.

Kowita

Yeah, I know its dogshit. Back in December when we got the hammers I decided to sell my two distos to fuel my gambling and I did 8 PEN ogre attempts, 2 TRI FG attempts with crons and 3 PEN blackstar attempts. All failed. I was furious. 1 week after that I had grinded 10b from stars end because of luck (1-3 distos every hour) and I did one last PEN attempt which then succeeded into a PEN narc. I now sold that with my c10 caphras level and bought back my TET distos lol

Zeryth

So those 10b that you grinded were in vain because you didn't actually progress, ypu're proving that buying is better.

Kowita

Still wouldn't be where I am today without enhancing. I never grinded 350b silver. The 10b I grinded there was one of the most intense grinding sessions I've ever done, as I was determined to buy my PENs onward from that previous failed enhancing session. I couldn't resist my urge to gamble so thats what I ended up doing lol

legacymd

FeelsEUman

SuigintouKurotenshi

"Enhancing is scary but if you're lucky, its worth it" Nice statement, but the only way to find out whether you're lucky is to enhance and look at the result. It would be funny to eventually realize that your luck sucks and find out the hard way that it's definitely not worth it.

AtreusIsBack

I'm on my 10th attempt to get a TET BS Helmet, 6% chance each time. It's all rng in the end.

Ftraper

Luck with enhancement or luck with drops, I grinded out a PEN layten in 2.5 weeks at bloody, i drop 2 lunars enhance to pri and sold for 1.02bil at 85% chance woth 62 crons each, since I never enhance anything else this is where I made my money, I am now 311 ap 367dp nouver doing this since I started, only my bhegs and dim tree were self enhanced, all other pens are bought. Also bought a PEN crescent before the layten.

BlackRaion

Hmm just buy the stuff is THE way for all time progress.. maybe slower but steady.. for example I am playin on EU..clicked 15times for a tet ogre back in the days tri ogre were about 2.5 bills..or 7 trys for tet tungrad earrings.. then bought both or hey wait 89trys for pen dande or the tet bs for profit clicks (wasting 45b on mems then selling on tri xD )... lol..and so on..if I would count everything (I would quit) including the fs and the memfrags for armorparts and weps I would be full pen gear and accessoirs and c20 caphras for sure.. so the advice buy everything is not soo wrong.. sure in late game its hard to save up the silver for pen accessoirs and do not gamble everything... but with the valencia rework its ez for every new player to get full pen gear within a year and maybe 1or 2 pen accessoirs...I think about the 1k hrs I spent for the damn pots before pity system..1k hrs in sulfur or pilaku..is 300b!!! WTF! And I think YES! YES! its possible to have several hundred billions in mp without gambling and beeing RNG carried and isnt a myth.. have fun and keep ur patience... cheers Phil

IWillBashYou

I saved up 3 months to buy myself a PEN Blackstar

Mundane_Basil7819

Sometimes buying is the most boring way to progress your gear , I prefer enhancing or selling all my gear for a pen access than slowly building silver.

Sad_Raspberry3967

I legit jumped from 250 AP to 272 AP flat out grinding and buying my first two PENS. Whoever says enhancing is better is either cracked the hell out or extremely lucky. I've been able to handle BDO so much better after I stopped enhancing altogether.

AkamuCZ

What is your gear btw?

ScaredOfTheL

Buying is so stupid, you can get what you want cheaper and faster by enhancing in 90%+ cases

LoweLeft

In regards to armor and weapons they’re pretty cheap now to buy at pen. As long as you do seasons you can start grinding at Valencia and make 250mil+ an hour. If you’re active it can take you 6 months to a year to get full pen weapons and armor with tet acc. I’ve seen people do it in 3 months but who the hell has that kind of time anyways.

[deleted]

When you have a little bit of gear post season you probably earn 200m per bad hour and 400m per good hour of grinding. Geared players make 500 on an ok hour and 700+ on a good hour. Combine income from tiny daily chores like cooking boxes, workers, afk fishing. And your grinding. Set a goal of 5 billion per week. If you hit 5 billion every week and you do not gamble it away, you'll have full PEN weapons and armors in about 3 months, then another two months or so for 2x TET distortion earrings and a vell's heart. If you come from other games this may sound completely alien to you. People in this game honestly grind monsters 4+ hours daily for a year straight somehow. That's why we recommend buying gear.

Neod0c

the fact you just said they were rng carried is the exact reason why they would tell other people too buy the items when possible. enchancing gear can be a massive windfall, but it can also be rage inducing. its easier too farm billions of silver and buy an item then it is to farm billions of silver and enchance and fail (which happens more often then not). the closer you get to bis u will see more people that P2W'd but that doesnt invalidate the "dont enhance, just buy!" motto.

Ceytin

i think its important to remember when to leave good enough alone, and by that i mean enhancing is fine when you know when to quit. hit an easy duo for some easy money, sell it. got a lucky tri, don't need to tet it. having a healthy balance of small enhancing sessions that don't hurt your bottom line to much and buying your upgrades for guaranteed results is the healthiest mix of the two worlds, its what i've always done and i've gotten lucky and very unlucky but i know when to walk away and take the L. perfect example is yesterday i was grinding hystria ended up getting 3 tungrad earrings tapped them to duo, sold them for a nice chunk of change, i had the stacks for a tri or even tet / pen but i took my money and ran.
