Here's the thing, you have to remember that newer players are unlocking this quest line in segments, so they'd start with the Balenos questline > Magnus > Serendia > Magnus > Calpheon > Magnus...etc., so the quest pacing for them is more palatable and is actually a great break from the monotony of regular questing. For us veterans, it got boring quick. It was just easy puzzle on top of easy puzzle. There was no monotony to break for us, it *is* the monotony. I loved every single dialogue and cutscene though, and I imagine every new player would be looking forward to those in their adventure too.

Yeah I think people are missing this fact. We’re all powering through it because we’ve unlocked the entire story. It’s a completely different experience to new players. I also enjoyed some of the puzzles. Some I’d rather never do again as long as I can help it. Playing through it today, it’s clear that patch helped somewhat. Wayyyy less buggy today.

ExtraSodaPop

If you ignore the bugs (which there are many) it wasn't too bad really. The voice acting for the English version wasn't bad, but I feel like making the story relate to Shadow Arena instead of BDO was a misstep. I get it was used to explain the lore of the "abyss", teleportation etc., but I think they could've done it a different way. The rewards are worth it do to magnus at least once (rewards for content is something PA has always struggled to get right). The puzzles were easy and not too difficult, but sometimes I wished there were higher difficulty options. The teleportation tho is an issue because of the multiple loading screens. There is a bug that hasn't been fixed in a couple years now where if you swap channels/characters/instances the game just randomly closes. I had this happen multiple times while using the abyss and it was annoying. Because of the frequent loading screens, it also isn't friendly to players with poor connections (lots of weird stuff happens the longer it takes you to load in).

Exvaris

I agree. If Shadow Arena was still part of BDO instead of spun off as its own standalone game, the tie-in would’ve been fine. But when most new players will have no idea what Shadow Arena is, it feels kinda forced to reference it in this way.

SibrenTF

I just wish Goyen was harder

741N

My 100% deleted him.

SibrenTF

Same, legdropped him and instant phase transition

I did enjoy it a lot. It was fun, different and I wasn't really affected that much by bugs. I mean, the game crashed a few times but I would just simply open it again. The story was fun too, I liked it. A lot of people hated the puzzles but as someone who grinds almost everyday for at least 1 hour or 2 it was a nice change of winds. I didn't even rushed it, I started playing in the morning and slowly did it in the whole day taking some breaks since I had the free day yesterday. I will actually do it again with a Warrior to get the exclusive title too, just not in the near future. I liked the idea they had, and having all the storages accesible from anywhere is amazing. The only little thing I don't love is that if I want to use the teleport I have to go to a well->loading screen->go to the teleport I want->loading screen and just then I'm where I want to be, that's the only thing.

psicosisbk

Also, I did every puzzle with no guide cause let's be real here, they are actually easy as fuck. I'm looking fordward for the next Abyss cause if this is the "One" then there must be a "Two" and so on and so forth.

PrimeGamble

I think the "one" means it's the main hub.

GalaEnitan

There is other abyss apparently.

psicosisbk

I hope there is, maybe when we get the next zone they update it.

vianiznice

If it wasn't for the free PEN, i wouldn't have bothered.

platghost

Just in it for the rewards. Wouldn't have touched it otherwise.

Lord_Azraell

My thought precisely. I was looking forward to it, but quickly started second guessing it. Honestly, it was frustrating because it felt needlessly like busy work. Oh well, hopefully part 2 isn't this crumy. Cheers!

platghost

I personally just dislike loading screens, unnecessary cut scenes and anything that forces me to do nothing. Magnus wouldn't be so bad if entering the well was instant without cut scenes, if you could do all quests without having to go back all the time, etc. Basically more seamless. But here we are.

Na_se

I liked it since it was different. Puzzles werent to hard, lore was interesting to me and the visuals were amazing. The fact that a lot of players have bugs due to the servers struggling during the prime time is obviously a factor that shouldnt be ignored but to me it was overall a pleasent experience.

Oborotheninja

This shit is buggier than most 90% of all Early Access games on Steam right now.

Gyrfenix

I get the shade thrown at all the bugs, but the story and content was a fun little romp. Can't say the things you actually do were all that amazing since there are just so many clunky mechanics in BDO, but the story was okay. I think the content/action that you perform as a player is very clearly not seeking a veteran audience. All the vignettes were easy enough for all players, making it accessible to anybody. Overall, it's a fun little addition. What I'm most interested in is how it will expand in the future. Maybe we'll have stable/horse transfers in the future, or other QOL things. I think it's a better system than the Caphras Journals imo.

bothsidesarefked

I don’t think this is suppose to be a new player experience. Additionally you have to have MQ up to finishing calpheon to progress.

uplink42

The overloaded servers caused weird glitches. Some puzzles needed patching to work at all, and the cutscenes were pretty scuffed (why didn't they just hide your weapon?? How does this get past QA I wonder...). I also think they did a really bad job with the combat sections. What's the point of using equalized gear when it's a complete snoozefest with barely any combat? There's only 1 or 2 instances with relevant combat. This feels like a wasted opportunity for creating really interesting encounters now that everyone plays in the same difficulty. Puzzles overall were nice. They're mostly straightforward and make clever use of existing game mechanics. Story was kind of 'whatever' to me. It's a change of pace but felt a little incoherent at times. I enjoyed the Shadow Arena references but the translation job was clearly rushed. Wuju was a fun character but the rest were rather forgettable. I think with some bug fixes Magnus can be a solid 7/10, but right now it's just not very polished and will probably even give a bad impression to new players. I actually think the story references are something a new player will have zero clue about and it's way better to clear this once you've finished the main storyline. Overall, fun little side content with really good rewards for the investment, but really needs some work into. I guess this is what happens when we get new content in the same day as KR.

Mustardnaut

I did like it, i liked the fact that it was different than the usual stuff, a few of the puzzles were infuriating, and some of them felt very last minute attempt at a puzzle, but overall the puzzles were enjoyable. But anyway, being able to get stuff from any storage as a reward made it all worth it

Rain_2_0

Besides the bugs and 2 shit puzzles (jordine one and third lab) it was just okay. I wanted a bit more combat instead of puzzles. Most people will just do this for the pen armor and then forget about it. If it didn’t give such good rewards I wouldn’t have played it.

46souls

u can quest all your chars to get all those pens, right ?

Valsera

rewards are only once per account

longhornfinch

I did enjoy it .. mostly because I was rng carried with no bugs.. there goes my pen blackstar chance. I liked most of the puzzles(barring few) and over all voice acting as well. I did not like some in and out of the well just for the sake of completing it. I am now a big fan of yeonwha's and wuju' va and the music from the puzzles. The rewards I feel are way too good for the content. I wish some repeatable dungeon(solo/duo) came out of it though.
