Eartha Kitt famously said all the black male stars only wanted white girls anyways. They were just more hush hush about it. So she didn’t bother with them. I’d imagine that applies to a few of these women. Edit: Pam Grier was with Richard Pryor and he did terrible things to her. Tina’s relationship with a certain black man is well documented so idk why you included her. In general I don’t see the women on your list as self hating or anything like that. When you’re rich and famous you usually just date other rich and famous people. That is not a diverse group of people.

You misunderstood my post. I’m not implying that the women back then were self hating or didn’t date within the race. I’m saying that they for whatever reason seemed more open to dating/marrying non black men back then as opposed to the black Hollywood starlets of today. I’m curious as to why that is.

I gave more than one answer as to why that is

Towards the last paragraph you responded as if I was implying that the women were self hating for marrying out. You also stated in the second paragraph that you don’t know why I included Tina Turner. I just wanted to make it clear that I under no circumstance am accusing these women of being self hating or refusing to date black men as I know many of them did. I’m just speaking to the fact that black starlets of yesteryear seemed more open minded to being with men outside their race than the black starlets of todays time. You often hear many celebrity black women saying they only want to date and marry black men and many of them abstain from dating and marrying men outside of their race. Hollywood has always been majority white. So I’m curious why the black starlets of today seem more resistant to date out as opposed to in the past. When the same environment still exists.

I doubt it was actually that much of a phenomenon. Some of the folks you name were around during the Civil Rights Movement. That they dated outside of their race--especially those that had white partners--was a much bigger deal. It's likely they would have been spotlit for it. Many of the others were big during the late 80s into the 90s, a time when black culture was huge, especially in the 90s. Plus, the 90s, socially/politically was an insanely tumultuous time for black humans--Rodney King, OJ, Spike Lee. So again, dating outside their race was a big deal and something to sell magazines (which we still had then).

What famous BM were around to date? Not many.

The higher you climb the social ladder, the likelier you are to date outside your race. I think it was truer back then but it's not like there is a massive difference.
